I see that there are only about 20 folks on the ROC attendee list right now. What might prod a couple more of you folks into coming to the ROC meet? (besides an open bar)

Which Roc Meet?

My occupation takes precedence at that time of year.... A week later and I would be free, but that would hinder our annual family trip to Cape Cod... Two weeks later it turns into relative visits.... Come August I would be free but I have to go to NJ to hang out at some park and eat food.... :D

Time of year is what is keeping me away due to my profession. If same as last year (first week of Aug.) or in July I'd do it.

No enough time off or money to travel that far. :(

I'll be there in spirit...s. At least I'll be at the Sedona meet! :D

Between gas prices, time off and more...I know it is tough. I can only say that Saturday will be special for Ridgeline owners.

I hope that the ROC crowd picks up for this meet. We did a combine-meet for the obvious benefits for both.

a couple of things,

1) location, if it was being held in Las Vegas, Florida, or somewhere else I imagine the draw for me would be more tempting(before I catch any crap, I know the reasoning behind Ohio being the location, and it is a very valid one, just not enough to draw me into a trip to Ohio).

2) Vacation time already planned out. We are going to Hilton Head for a week at the beginning of June. I'll take the happy hours, hot weather, and the ocean over most things.

My profession is telecommunications. The job market in my area has been quite unsteady and all that seems to be available in contract work (When you can find it). I guess, too, I am at the age where 20 years of experience is not always a good thing since I have witnessed first hand jobs advertised as being for highly experienced techs going to people with less than 3 years of experience working on L. A. N. and desktops (I hate it when I hear that a CO tech dropped an OC-192 becuse they did not understand the impact of their actions and did not have a grasp of the protection scheme used). This results in extended periods of unemployment and depletion of the savings and emergency fund accounts.

I will try to make the meet this year, but I am holding out for now to see where I am closer to the meet dates.

As it stands right now, I am not expecting to make the meet for these reasons.

I understand your predicament, Mike.

My employment situation (Electronics Manufacturing) is at best tentative. Work has been slow since December and is steadily getting worse. Although there have been a few bright spots, nothing indicates long term improvement.

I have signed up for the Meet and even paid the Registration Fee, but if things don't get better soon I may need to reconsider. Last time work was this slow I had to take a 20% pay cut. That would kill my opportunty to attend.

Yep, I am currently making 55% less than what I did two years ago.

I am still uncomminted, lots of positivies and a few negatives. Like Jim, I understand why the Ohio area again!! Probably a lot more ROC'ers if the location was different. It is 500 miles for me which means a full day on the road going and coming. Hotel rates are ridiculous in the area and we have no idea about the price of gas in June, probably between $3.50 and $3.75. The possiblity of not making the Friday tour realy sucks!! I am still leaning towards going, billfold says no!! I would really hate to miss seeing old friends and making new ones!!!

As I type this, I am trying to get a night job to pay for the gas I use on my 110 mile round trip commute.

In the last two years:

Gas prices have doubled.

Food has gone up roughly 35%

Water has gone up 15%

Electricity has almost doubled.

If I get the second job, I may be able to make the meet. We shall see.

Amen to the above and good luck with the night job.

I have been waiting for more camping info. Also, I think I saw that our 4year old wouldn't be able to do the plant tour which means none of us would go on that. That takes out a big incentive for the meet.

I won't be attending due to the distance and the fact that I only get 2 weeks off a year. But I'm not complaining, I'm not in the same boat as some of the people here I'm reading about. Good luck to all of them. I hope there work picks up. Anyway we're going to Peru for 3 weeks in January 09 and I need to save as much vacation time as possible, not to mention money. We will be with you in spirit. I would really like to put a face with all of the names I see here daily. I will be (should be) at the Sedona meet this Saturday.

I mentioned this to the wife, she was not very receptive to the idea!!;)
On a more serious note!! I am one of the dumb butts that is living off his savings. My IRA is down about 13% and having to take monthly distributions from an account that is losing is not good business!!! After being around others that have retired; the smart ones are those with a military career, then got a job with pension benifits, then with SS get 3 checks a month!!:) Also those that spent 25 to 30 years with GM, Ford, Mopar, etc are doing very well also!! We have been in a resession since late last summer. The money guys just don't want to admit it!!!:(

This year it will be the 50th anniversary of Jaguar Club of America (JCNA), being held in Gand Junction CO, Jul 28 through Aug 1st. This is a once in a life time event. So, this will be my vacation for the year.

I can say from the past National ROC meets that I have attended, I know it would be a great event and I wish I could swing it this year. FLA-Vyk

What's stopping us?
About $750 worth of gas and 11 nights minimum in a motel OR about $1250 for gas and 11 nights minimum in a campground.
Having to drive I80 again OR take a longer, slower route that will take more time and money.
Having to convince the DW that this would be more fun than some of the destinations she might have in mind.
I'm sure it will be a lot of fun but it's just too far to justify the trip.

I think I can top everyones excuses!!
I drive 190 round trip..
Wife works!! She drives 110 miles round trip same direction - only been able to drive together a couple times, if we catch each other going opposite directions we switch vehicles (I get the RL!!)
We are trying to get a house ready for sale...
etc etc...

But on the bright side the $1200 check from gb should pay for it..

Since the 1st meet there too fun (& saved me money last year!!) to miss...

I think the biggest reasons for me is $$$$, distance to drive and the time I'd have to do it and vacation time. I have to spend my vacation time and $$ with my family and trips to Florida and our annual beach house trip favor higher in their minds. I'm low man on the food chain (by choice ;) ) so I have to do what the majority votes. Plus, I spend far too much time with my truck as it is... :p

By no means is it for lack of interest. :D

I'd choose the beach house option anyday.

Im actually driving to South Carolina to stay at a house on the beach we rented for a week, during the first week in June.

All day? It's only like 8 hrs or so right? Leave early, be in town by 1 or 2 in the afternoon. Nothing to it! I'll be headed to Myrtle Beach for a long weekend next month (Bike Week!), so I feel the gas price pain, but NC-OH's only like a tank and a half of gas. Pack some sandwiches and ht the road - you won't regret it. :D

Thanks Moose, I'm feeling bad enough about making this decision. Missing all you great guys is bumming me out. I think conservation is the best option for me. Who knows, things may break for us and I'll show up just to celebrate.

The economy is really pulling our business down. The only sector of our business that still running steadily is Biomedical Electronics.

I'm hoping for the best for both of us, twincam.

I think it would be a great time except for:
1- Gas Prices
2- Mileage- I'm running just over my terms of the lease
3- My conservative nature, I believe we are going to see a huge increase in retail prices come May 1st as Mfg's react to increased distribution expenses and the devaluing dollar. I may have to start looking for my buried coffee cans in the back yard.
4- Oh and no hunting seasons that time of the year in Ohio.:D

Thanks to TMac for putting together a great event. I really wanted to attend this year's meet. Unfortunately with the price of gas, and other scheduled events I couldn't get it on the calendar. We have one daughter graduating college in Boston. Going to SC to pick up other daughter, and all her stuff, from freshman year. Family vacation, etc. I hope everyone has a great time. Will try again next year.

Sorry Guys I will miss my first Run this year!!!! :(

I have a wedding to photograph that saturday. They booked it 12 months ago.

If by chance they postpone or don't have it I will try. If it was the week after I could make it.

Maybe next year we can get a date way ahead so those of us that book stuff way out might have a chance of getting off.

Hope you guys have a great time!!!!!!! Fill Raz's pool with a couple for me.
