Are there any Texas (and surrounding state) ROC members interested in getting together a regional Ridge meet in Fort Worth TX on August 9-10, 2008?

The Yellow Rose of Texas Car Club is having a meet that weekend at the Amon Carter.

Stockyards Rodeo is also listed for Fort Worth that weekend.

So how about a combined Ridgeline, Rodeo, and Classic Car weekend in Forth Worth TX?

This would be a great weekend for all Ridgeline owners from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and New Mexico to meet in Fort Worth for a regional meet.

Reply to this thread if you are interested.

My dance card is open that weekend so I'd enjoy a little get together.

Fort Worth is a great town. Great Texas Style BBQ. Great Mexican Food. Car shows, museums, and rodeos. August 9, will be a great day for a ROC meet.

IMHO - Angelos or the Railhead for BBQ and the only choice on Mexican food is Uncle Julios!

Joe T. Garcia's Mexican Restaurant (http://www.joets.com/)

Famous for their margaritas, not their food. More of an after 5 hang out for the downtown Ft Worth crowd.

Check out Uncle Julios, Great food (excellent fajitas), drink, atmoshere, outdoor patio and usually some hot TCU co-eds running about. Easy to find location on the access road off I-30 also.
Pappasitos is anougher popular Mexican restaurant.

Craig, I'm way too far away to attend the meet. But when you start talkin' about classic cars (my passion) and Mexican food (my other passion), I get all riled up. Hope you guys have a wonderful meet, and please know I'll be with you in spirit. Last year, I flew out to visit a friend in the DFW area (Colleyville), and he took my lady and I to a restaurant named "Pappasito's Cantina." Some of the best Tex/Mex food I've ever eaten. You guys may know of better places in the area, but that one was wonderful. Hope you find good food, good cars, and good fellowship. Sure wish I could be there!

Thanks Tom! We are really looking forward to a great meet. I have attended The Yellow Rose of Texas Classic Car Show in years past. I can tell you the show draws automotive enthusiasts from all over the country. The North Texas Mustang Club sponsors the show. I remember seeing classics from the Model-T and Model-A era, through the 40s, 50s with classic T-birds, AC Cobras, 64 & ½ Mustangs, Shelby Mustang Cobra and more. This year’s event will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Model-T. Can you imagine owning a car that is 100 years old?

The Yellow Rose Car Show is a legendary event. We would like to see a good line of Ridgelines parked in front of the Amon Carter Center to catch the attention of the other car enthusiasts who will be attending the show. We may recruit some new ROC members while we are there for the show. Also, I will be handing out coupons for $2 off the normal $8 admission fee for ROC members who arrive at 10:00 AM. Each Ridgeline owner who attends the meet will receive a free ROC window decal ($8 value) along with the discount coupon.

You and Topdown from NC would like to see the classic Mustangs at the show. I plan to give a historical narration about the post WWII cars as we walk through the show. I have recently a learned lot about classic cars from the man whose designs were chosen to become the 55 Thunderbird in addition to many other famous cars from the 50s and 60s. I hope to share the information with the ROC as we walk through the show.

There will be drawings for some really cool Ridgeline Club items. Also, a 700-page automotive history (coffee table) picture book will be given to the ROC member who drives the farthest distance to attend the meet. You could be the winner. We hope to draw ROC members from all over Texas and the surrounding states to attend this event.

Special thanks in advance of the meet goes to Outfitter for offering his pool as a way to cool off in the afternoon and for helping me organize this event.

Stay tuned for more details over the next couple days. A flyer will be produced within the next couple days to support the official meet announcement.

The schedule is listed below.

August 9th, Fort Worth Texas, Amon Carter Exhibit Hall

10:00 AM – Yellow Rose of Texas Car Show

12:30 PM - Lunch at Angelo's BBQ or Uncle Julio’s Mexican

2:00 PM - Post Car Show Pool Party at Outfitters

Members who are interested in attending just reply to this thread and I will post a summary as we approach August 9.

Hey Tom,
Wish you could make it but we certainly understand the distance thing.
Pappasitos is an excellent Mexican food restaurant as are any of the Pappa's family's other ventures. Pappadauex's, Pappa's Steak House, Pappa's BBQ and Pappamia's.
The place I have recommended (Uncle Julios) is the only place I think is better
than Pappasitos, although they both are very simular with their recipes for salsa, thin chips and pinto beans. Uncle Julio's beats them on fajitas, chili rellanos and Quail.
PS, They have Pappasitos in Atlanta and Chicago also.

I just received your email. Yea, this sounds like fun! You mean there is a place that tops Pappasitos? I never heard of Uncle Julio but years ago I remember going to a Pappasitos at Central Expressway and Spring Valley Rd. in Dallas. The portions were huge and they had very, very good Ritas. Then, a couple years later they opened their sister restaurant, Pappadauex, right next door. If Uncle Julio can top these then that is where I want to go as I'm a huge fan of good fajitas.

We will probably come in late Friday and spend the night someplace close to the Amon Carter Museum. Otherwise, Judi will never get up in time to make the trip in Saturday morning. I've got to bring her because after I polish off most of your Pacifico beers (or will it be Corona?) at the pool, I'll have to have her as designated driver for the trip back home.

So, as far as I can determine right now we'll just go to the museum and ride around until we spot a bunch of Ridgelines. BTW, is the Amon Carter Exhibit Hall and the Museum in the same building?

I think this exhibit hall is next to something called Will Rogers Coliseum or Hall or something like that. I checked and the Amon Carter museum has a different address. When I checked directories I found out there are Amon Carter schools, parks and everything else and they are all spread out around Ft. Worth. I don't know who Carter was but he must have been some big shot. Anyway, it looks like the exhibit hall is not at the museum but we need to check further.

Your suggestion is a good one about meeting somewhere and driving in together. Being not exactly sure where this place was I just went ahead and made motel reservations right off the highway I'll be coming in on. It is the LaQuinta Arlington/Dallas South (which is not far from you at I-20 near Matlock Rd). It is sort of in the Parks Mall area on Scots Legacy. I get in late Friday night. Since you have to come straight up Matlock anyway you could meet Judi and I for breakfast Saturday morning near the motel; I'm sure there are lots of eating places around there. They have free breakfast where I'm staying but you know how that goes - a bagel and they might even have orange juice and that's about it. Then, off to the show. If breakfast comes too early, you could still meet us at the motel anyway and since Mike is not far from there either maybe he can join us and we'll just caravan up there. Whatcha think?

That's great news, Mike! I hope your wife has an early flight because we should meet at the IHOP that Outfitter mentioned around 8:00 or 8:30. I figure it might take an hour or so to order and eat as IHOPs on weekends are always full. Then, I think it might be 20 minutes or so to the Hall and we have to find and meet everyone outside, get out tickets, etc. I think the schedule shows that the exhibit opens at 10:00am. I'm sure Outfitter will post here when we should meet since he knows the area and driving distances. Heck, you do too so whatever you and Outfitter decide will be fine with me. I'll probably see your truck out there at the hotel but won't see you until breakfast because I will be in Dallas all day with friends and won't get to the hotel until late that evening. Outfitter and Mike will have to tell us what time to meet at the IHOP.

I'm thinking we should shoot for 8:00 at IHOP if that works for everyone.

Just a quick note to let you know we are looking forward to a good Ridgeline meet on August 9th. I will be giving each member who attends the meet a ROC decal when we meet at the Carter Exhibit Hall. I also have some ROC license plate frames to give away along with some other prizes.
I have posted the attendees on the first page of this meet thread.

If you have any questions, just send me an e-mail through my ROC profile.

Have a good one,

Thanks my friend! On the way to your house that afternoon direct me to a beer barn and I'll pick up some beer to supplement our Red Dog. I'll get some six packs of different stuff like Shiner, Pacifico and similar for anyone to sample if they wish. Only liquor stores around here are half way to Longview!

I looked at the forecast. I can't believe they are predicting rain. This is August! There's no rain in August here. They better wrong, as usual. C'ya at IHOP at 8am.

It rained here most of yesterday. I kept the Ridge in the garage all day.

Let me know who (excluding me) is driving the longest distance.
I have a car book to give to the member who drives the longest distance...

Also to give away in a drawing:

1 - Radio Controlled Ridgeline

8 - Ridgeline Owners Club License Plate Frames

Additionally, a free ROC decal will be provided for each Ridgeline in attendance.

Yea, I know but I have to drive in today and it stresses me out! I'm leaving around noon to meet with friends in Dallas. BTW, I've been watching Versus and they have a show about the Tecomate Ranch (or something like that) which I think is in Texas. HUGE bucks. They showed one gal popping a monster drop tine and another guy shot a big 14 point. He hit it in the head and you could see one side of the rack blow right off. The taxidermist fixed it and they showed it mounted; it was quite a deer.

The Tecomate is a very famous ranch and is where the legendary buck named "Heart Attack" and his off spring "Little Joe" lived. Lots of celebrities have hunted it including the RealTree gang and Jeff Foxworthy.
They have also been leading edge in developing food plots that will grow with a minimum of rain.
Unfortunately,it costs big bucks to hunt big bucks on that ranch.

I'll have the coffee pot going if you want to come by in the morning for a quick shine before breakfast. I believe you will find just about everything you could need in my garage.

I figured it was one of those mega buck ranches - in more ways than one. I sent you an email to tell you I called my friends in Dallas and told them I was not coming in today and canceled my hotel reservations. Too much rain out here and it probably will extend all the way to Dallas. I'm a fair weather driver! Judi said she'll make the supreme effort and get up early so we will drive directly to IHOP in the morning and should be there by 8:00 rain or shine.

OwnerCS - You put on a great gig by including the car show into the get together. It was a pleasure meeting you. Thank you for taking the time to plan the mini-meet!

BLK LSU - It was a pleasure meeting you and your son. He is a great little trooper! Thank you for including him as it was an obvious wonderful father son time. Congrats on winning the prized remote control SEMA Ridgeline!!!

To those who missed it, we had a great time at a very nice car show as well as a great meal at Uncle Julio's. To top the meet off, we retired back to Outfitter's home and enjoyed a few drinks while cooling off in the pool. Great times for me and hopefully everyone else!
