Attention ROC Audiophiles:

I am looking for the BEST IPOD HOLDER/Charger I can find. I would appreciate any and all input from everyone. Has anyone heard of TuneFlex Aux by Griffin?

Griffin Technology: TuneFlex Aux (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/tuneflexaux/)

I am preparing to upgrade my stereo system in my Ridge. I have bought all new speakers. I would like to add a MP3 Player / Nano probably. Will I also need to add USA Spec adapter?

Thanks,

Lex Luthor

That looks cool! I see why you need a good holder now. I'll be watching this thread for future use! :D

It looks interesting. Not my preference to use the cigarette lighter for power and mounting but very positive review from iLounge Griffin TuneFlex Aux (2008) | iLounge (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/reviews/entry/griffin-tuneflex-aux-2008/)

Have you checked out Crutchfield? They have several units that have aux in and they also sell the adapter--don't recall who makes it off the top of my head. You might even be able to find a deal with the adapter coming free with a particular head unit.
I'm still trying to decide myself which mount I want for my iPhone. I don't like the big bulky contraptions but I also don't want the cigarette lighter type. That's just me. Have you checked out Pro Fit's website? They offer several types of mounts for some of the Apple products and other MP3 players, Satellite, etc. Look through all their sections:

Mounts for Handheld and Mobile Electronics - Pro.Fit Minnesota US (http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/)

Good luck--take pics when you're done!

Lex-
I just ordered the Griffin TuneFlex Aux yesterday from eBay ($14 with shipping). A pretty cheap way to go in order to experiment. I hope it works well. I will keep you posted.

I don't think you will be disappointed.
I have had one for several months. I use it with my Apple iTouch. I was a bit worried that anything that plugs into a power outlet wouldn't be secure but it has been. I can adjust the positioning of the unit. The unit charges as necessary and it also stops the playback when you turn off the ignition. Nice not to have to remember to press the stop function. I need to tidy up the audio cord placement. Comes with the unit and the mini plug simply connects to the Aux jack.

Thanks for the photo CollegeBoy. What did you use to mount your PDA/Phone? And how does it attach?

The PDA is a Blackberry 8830. The holder is from ProClip USA
It is a two part mounting system. The vehicle mount is the base that clips to the dash. The second part is the device holder that connects to the vehicle mount. This one was specifically for the Blackberry. They have a huge listing of various device holders.

The assembly took all of 2 minutes. No screws, drilling etc. Simply clips solidly to the dash. Very high quality and works extremely well. I ordered on line direct from the company. They were great and shipped within a day to Canada arrived at my place within 3.

Highly recommend.

If you buy a USA spec, you won't need a charger........

spitfisher-
It seems that the PXAMG might be a better selection than the USA Spec (better integration???)...plus my vehicle is leased, so I might not want to disassemble, reassemble the dash a couple of times. Correct me if I'm wrong...please.:)

I have a little compartment w/ door on the dash, below the radio/cd ( no nav), this where I keep my ipod, out of site and no temptation for a smash and grab. I took off the dash, inserted the usa spec, drilled a hole on the back side (inside) of this compartment. It's set up to operate the ipod from the steering wheel. works great- I never even have to touch my ipod-until I hook it up to itune on my laptop. It's always juiced up,

When the time comes to trade in your lease, put some black electrical tape over the hole- unless they're are really looking for it- they'll never find it or see it.

By the way now that toyota is slowing down/halting production of the tundra and the current non truck buying tendency of the public- I would negotiate your buy out of your lease when it comes up- it might be worth keeping $$ wise. it's a great truck.

I had a lease that ended a couple of months after 911- my buy out for my saab was $17,500- I eventually negotiated the buy out down to 10,200, because of the market conditions at the time.

sorry to digress......good luck

Lex:

I agree with CollegeBoy.....I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I've had this unit for about a year (for use with my ipod nano) and I've been very pleased with it. I actually drilled a hole adjacent to the aux input jack and ran the cord behind the center console and out thru the blank center switchplate. I then used rubber grommets to trim the holes and it looks great (IMO).

I received my Griffin iPod holder/charger for my Nano G2 iPod yesterday (It is the version that only works for this iPod model). It is awesome! :D I used the right-hand side power outlet in the center console and used some cable management to attach the audio cable to the flexible mount. It works very well and from the driver's seat, you can't see any wires. Nice! Let me know if you want me to post any pics. I'd be happy :) to do so.
