So what do you guys think about the NHL cancelling the hockey season? No Stanley Cup this year.
I am not a big hockey fan by any means. I like to watch it when it is on TV and I pay attention, albeit peripherally, to the Florida teams.
I guess my point of this thread is I think it is sad that a season of a professional sport is cancelled because of contract disputes.
Thoughts?

Finally... I know I could get shot by saying this as a Canadian but it was about time instead of keeping jerking everyone around.
I couldn't give a rat's a$$ about hockey anyway.

I am a NCAA basketball junkie. I rarely watch anything in the professional sports world simply because I think it is absurd that an athlete can make nearly a million dollars a year just for being on the roster. My approach (in my own little Utopia) is that all pro sports have a salary cap of $1 million a year or something... and then you tie incentives into winning. You want to make $5 million a year? Fine...win me a championship. But this garbage of a person "deserving" 10-15 million a year, regardless of the sport... is nonsense.
<stepping down from soapbox> hehe
I agree with you T Mac. Let them sign a multi-million dollar contract but only guarantee a certain amount with the rest earned based on performance. Can you imagine how the regular season play would change with a system like that? Everyday would be like a play-off day!

Case in point, I'm a huge Illinois fan and one of their recent players (Frank Williams) now is in the NBA. He has played probably less than 60 minutes in the last two seasons and he was making about 800 grand a year or something. For what? It's absurd, plain and simple. So they pay athletes crazy money even when they don't play. Whether they are stars or bench warmers, either way I think a change is necessary or things at the pro level will continue to go downhill.
