j2k99 06-23-2008, 12:48 PM Hi all. Is there such an accessory that you could put on the bed of the ridgeline for bicycles similar to those motorcycle ones?
sorry to sound dufus about my wording, just don't know what those accessories are called.
i basically would like to place the bicycles normally on the bed of the truck.
Thanks
r-squared 06-23-2008, 01:07 PM Do you mean a wheel chock that you mount in the bed that secures the front wheel?
This is the motorcycle version, just to make sure I'm on the right page: Truck Wheel Chock - Bed Rail Mounted Motorcycle Rack (http://www.discountramps.com/truck-wheel-chock.htm)
I havent seen one for bicycles that was meant to go in a truck bed. However, I did pick up a chock-style holder at Target that is meant for the garage. Perhaps if you come up empty on something exactly like the above, you could somehow rig a in-garage bike holder for the bed. Perhaps mount it to some wood that ultimately secures it to the floor/bed anchors. I did that with those fork-style mounts in a Dakota I had.

I think its what you are looking for.
A 4-bike in-bed rack.

j2k99 06-23-2008, 01:19 PM oooo, thanks r-squared. i think this is the type i'm thinking about. based on the desc, it looks like its meant for pick up trucks.
thanks again!
Engyo 06-23-2008, 05:12 PM For fewer bikes, there is the Thule Insta-Gater

kanji 06-23-2008, 07:03 PM some one will chime in about doing a wheel lock for the forks of the bike, there where two or three RL owner's have done this mod. They put fork locks for their mt bikes in the wall part of the bed, to transport their Mt bikes. Depending on the size of your bike, you may or may not be able to close your gate or may need a bed extender. Some have put a thule bar accross the bed rails or cleates. I just transport my Mt bike in the rear cabin without the front wheel, I have a Large frame Mt bike and it doesn't fit inside the cabin with the wheel on or in the bed with the wheel on, it may fit in the back if i turn the wheel and strap it down with tie downs.
Go this route. Cheaper and it works. I can transfer the rack easily twix the truck and house.

Great design! Thanks for sharing.
MoosePond 06-24-2008, 09:24 AM Here's what I did, just some scrap lumber bolted to the front of the bed with a couple of Thule fork blocks attached to it. Works great and allows us to close the tailgate (usually store the front wheels in the trunk).
jgb21_98 06-27-2008, 03:54 PM thule makes a rack that's just a straight bar across with two fork mounts, works awesome and no drilling in the truck!
Cant remember the name, but is cost about $120 and fits snug against the first ridge inside the bed.
CapeRT 06-28-2008, 01:07 AM Hawk, I took your advice and made myself the PVC bike rack. I am very pleased with the results! I went to my local plumbing supply place and purchased all the required parts (minus the cement) for $27. He only had large cans of the cement for $15, so he told me to go to the local hardware store and grab a small can for $3. My only complaint is that I cannot open the trunk with it in the bed of the truck. I was hoping to just leave it in the bed most of the time, but it interferes with the trunk which I use regularly. But, a cheap bike rack that doesn't make me remove the bike tires every time the wife and I want to take the bikes out for a ride. Thanks for the info!:D

Looks to me that with the car top rack and some innovation that moves those Thule fork blocks rearward a bit from the rack, you could have a setup that stands the bikes up nearly vertically so you could still get in the trunk!

xridgelinex 08-18-2008, 05:26 PM There supposed to be an accessory for 2009.... It probably will be backwards compatible. Most likely it will be more expensive then the impressive ones I've seen made.
