Let's start tossing around some things to do during the Cape May Meet.

Friday Night - For the early arrivals, from 8 PM until ?? a Cocktail Party at Harpoon Henry's. (http://www.harpoonhenrys.net/)

Saturday - From 10 until about noon, we can meet at the Cape May Lighthouse (http://www.capemaytimes.com/history/cape-may-lighthouse.htm) or possibly a visit with a hosting Honda dealership.

From noon until 6PM free time. I will furnish a list of happenings in and around Cape May as I find them. There will be plenty to do, the Meet weekend is also Victorian Weekend. So, there are many events planned.

6 PM till?? Dinner at Menz's Restaurant (http://www.menzrestaurant.com/). We are currently working on the menu.

Sunday - Go home!

Nothing is concrete at this point. Offer any suggestions, questions or comments you may have. There's plenty of time. :)

Dan (ONDLINKS) has been working at a feverish pace to secure an Official Meet Hotel. It hasn't been easy for him, either. Seems the last time we were in Cape May we made a name for ourselves.

Dan tried going back to the same hotel and told them who we were, they remembered from the '06 Meet, and suggested we go somewhere else. Poor Dan, he gets no respect! :D

Dan is working with the folks at La Mer Motor Inn (http://www.capemaylamer.com/). I think it's a fine choice and the rates are quite reasonable for a Seashore Resort. The amenities are plentiful, the rooms are nice and the ocean view is completely unobstructed.

In the next day or two he should hear about whether or not a group discount is available for us and how many rooms would need to be booked to receive it.

And somewhere else we will go. I was takin' aback when the guy from the Avondale remembered the banner strung between balconies. Oh the horror!

The Le Mer looks to be fine place for us to chill. I hope to see a group discount. It will depend on how many rooms we commit to, I'm sure.

It's early yet so the more the better.

No Banners strung between balconies, please! :)

Don't forget that you're talking about a town where any outside improvements or re-design has to be approved by the town before they allow you to do it. Yes how would you guys come from Pa. to the Ferry or is it another route.
I know nothing about Cape May when I was younger & in my teenage years my father would find all kinds of fishing spots in Del NJ. NY. VA. & MD.
We would catch charter fishing boats out of some places & they would be in the water near the areas of the resorts. I can't remember but he took me to some resort town up in NewJersey to go fishing we stayed in a house like a timeshare kind of thing. Then he took me out on a rented row boat I call it with the little outboard motor. The bigger boats were out in this water also fishing. I was glad to get back on land the row boat was to small for my for me.

If you're coming from Maryland, it may be easier to either take the ferry, or come across the Delaware Memorial Bridge to Route 40, which takes you to Route 55....then follow the rest of Pizza's directions.

Ok, after a dinner confab with Pizzaman, 63Tbird, mdwalls and myself, the La Mer will be the official Meet hotel. We'll be booking our rooms for friday and saturday night shortly. Sorry, no group discounts anywhere on weekends. Although off season, Cape May has plenty of activity for the fall season. The La Mer has a bicycle and antique car club booked for that weekend and I believe is half full already. You can book a room at La Mer for between $110-150 per night, depending on view. That price includes all taxes.

Some places but not all, may require a two night stay on weekends. We can help find a place if you only need a saturday night stay. The La Mer has rooms available now for a saturday night only but are ocean front and are in the $150 range

Cape May has plenty of places to stay, all look to be in the same price range.
I'll be booking my room on monday and report back exact info on my booking.

If your considering on staying a night or two, there's still plenty of time but would advise on booking early. You can always cancel.

We could, let's see what everyone else thinks about it. I visualize pretty much the same as the LI T-Shirts with your magic done to make it Cape May specific. The ROC logo across the top, whatever art work you decide. There will be no sponsors for this Meet so maybe we can put ROC Screen Names across the back.

Glad you can make the Meet Fred. I made the Ferry treck from Lewis to Cape May many years ago. It's a nice ride, I was on foot because the boat we were fishing from out of Wildwood Crest caught fire and we jumped ship onto a fishing boat out of Indian River.......Long story.

Actually yes, with 6 lines in we hit a school of Bonita, 3 on, about 25 lbs each. While the Cappy was backing to the catch we noticed smoke coming from down below. We landed the beauties but now the boat is dead in 1k ft of water. All the wiring on the boat got toasted. No radio, no bilge and no nothing. Generator gone too. Ut Oh! Nobody in site and in the shipping lanes too. Dusk was coming fast.

You guys out fishing the Canyon? Where'd the help come from?

Yes, the boat was a 1/4 million dollar (at the time was big bucks) beauty with twin Rolls Royce engines if I remember right, It was called the Magician. The Cappy was a off duty Wildwood policeman. When we were dead in the water he wanted to set off a limited amount of flares while still in daylite. Please save them for when dark. After floating about for a couple hours we spotted another sport fishing boat and flagged them with twirlling T-shirts. I know, in some instances it means stay away.

They came along side and they notified the Coast Guard in Cape May of our situation. The Coast guard ordered the boat to stay with us until they got a fix on us. Now we hear that Cape May doesn't have a cutter big enough to tow us in and they'll have to send one up from Ocean City Md. Oh My.

About this time, the other boat is running low on fuel and needs to get back to Delaware via Indian River. The Coast guard releases the boat but before they do, I ask why can't we jump on that nice boat. The Cappy sez it's to dangerous. After some persistance and a call by the other boat to the Coast guard they let us jump ship. I heard days later that our boat took 48 hrs to get towed to Ocean City Md.

And a fine ride back via the Cape May ferry. Damn we lost the fish. :)

I'm trying to arrange a 6:00 PM start at the restaurant. Things would kick off with a Cocktail Party from 6 till 7. I want them to serve finger foods during the Cocktail Party. Dinner would start off with the salad, then move into the entrees. I wanted to do an appetizer course, but things would get a bit pricey.

The 2006 Cape May Meet dinner was $27 or $29 a person. That was 2 years ago, prices will be somewhat higher this year. What would everyone feel an acceptable price per head would be?

Input would be appreciated.

Cape May Meet Agenda:

Friday, Oct 17, 2008

7:00 PM - For all the Friday arrivals there will be a Cocktail Party Meet and Greet at Harpoon Henry’s Restaurant (http://www.harpoonhenrys.net/). Those who wish to can have their evening meal there prior to the Meet and Greet. The location is right on the Delaware Bay with beautiful sunsets over the mainland. Be sure to bring your camera.

Saturday, Oct 18

10:00 AM till noon – The official Meet will be held at the Cape May Lighthouse (http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=389). There is plenty of free parking, beach access and nature trails to explore. In case you’re bringing a pet, dogs are permitted on the beach in October.

Noon till 6:00 PM – Free time. Please refer to the Activities List in my signature line. Choose how you would like to spend your afternoon. Cape May is a Vacation Resort and is crowded through the month of October. It is almost impossible to stage a single location event and be able to find parking for everyone. We will be better off splitting up into smaller groups and hitting various locations.

6:00 PM – The Meet dinner will be held at Menz’s Restaurant (http://www.menzrestaurant.com/). A Cocktail Party will be held from 6:00 to 7:00. I’m arranging for finger foods to be available during the “Happy Hour”. Dinner will be served afterward. The Dinner Menu and Pricing will be announced as soon as I can finalize the arrangements.

Sunday, Oct 19, 2008 - Get away day. A free day to do as you see fit.

I will be posting Restaurant recommendations for you to choose from for breakfast and lunch.

Mike, Menz's has a children's menu (http://www.menzrestaurant.com/MenzChildrenMenu.html). You can have the kids order from that and square it up with the waitress separately. That's how we handled it at the '06 Meet. :)

Thanks for posting the photos Carl. It was good to see them and think back to the first Meet. We wish you could make it, again.

Did you know the image of the guy in the rocking chair has only one leg? It's intentional. The founding owner of the Restaurant had only one leg.

I'll put together a t-shirt design also. Being as we only have about a dozen or so, we'll print them here, just not white on a black shirt. I don't have the equipment to them that way. Maybe black on a slate blue shirt, hmm, kind of like the color of your Ridge.

Jeanette's a pro at shopping in Cape May. She knows all the good shops. We'll surely be sick when the girls return. Sadly, there are no good Men's Shops in the Washington Street Mall. So, it's all about the girls.

You mean you won't be joining us for cocktails Friday Night? :(I am not sure yet. Depends on how my tourist day goes while wandering around. IIRC, AC and surrounding area is not overly large so it is very possible for my attendance for some beverages. I will likely take the local beach roads south out of AC... to see what I can see. I can always hit the casinos on the way back to the hotel (after bevs) :D

I've sent them an e-mail to see what the group rate would be. The minimum group size is 25. The ship holds at least 150 people, so I don't think space will be much of an issue in Mid-October.

That's all fine and good for 99% of businesses out there open to the public. This is a different situation consisting of organic beef raised by a small cooperative of family and friends... It is purposely delivered on the weekend for all of us not to have to miss work as the rally point is about 100 miles away for most of us.......:p...
