John01XX 07-28-2008, 10:18 AM OK folks, previously a contrivercial (Sp?) subject but .........
I got my Horn Blasters 4 trumpet system installed in my 08 Ridgeline RTL this past weekend. It is loud and works awesome on the Highway. It is not as load or obnoxious as an actual Train Horn but much louder than stock.
It is not to be used to scare or iretate pedistrians but rather to wake up zoned out drivers that need to pay attention on the Highways. It gets attention at highway speeds but not loud enough to scare drivers into causing an accident.
It is a real asset when used properly.
I have blown it a couple times when requested by friends when parked "to see how it sounds" and everyone so far thinks it is very cool sounding.
It does have the Train "tone" but not the Train Volumn.
I had it professionally installed by a shop called California Customs who did a great job. Very pricey but out of sight and very functional. I have a toggle switch to turn off the Train Horn and just have the stock horns or toggle on the train horn along with the stock horns at the same time.
Works great when a break in occurs and the usual alarm will not bring any attention or help to prevent theft. Standard alarms now go off all the time in parking lots and alost noone pays attention anymore. But let the train horn sound off and the would-be thief will run away quickly as anyone within 100 yards is going to notice and my alarm remote gets me running to the truck immediately as well.
I will post up installation pictures as soon as I get them from California Customs. Removed the whole front end of the Ridge to gain enough room to mount them where they would not interfer with anything else. They ended up in the wheelwell behind the headlight assembly completely out of sight.
If you do not like Train Horns please keep your negative horn comments to yourself and try to understand that there can be a positive use for them if used properly and spareingly. Ok screw it, negative comments welcomed !!!!!
4 trumpet set-up with two mounted on each side .

Is Mensa recruiting? Thanks for the extra noise pollution.
chisoxjim 07-28-2008, 11:22 AM sounds like overkill, I think I can count on both hands how many times I have used my trucks horn over the past 129,000 miles, let alone needed one that is extra loud.
different strokes I guess.

You've been on the ROC long enough to know better.........
Now where are the pics?
dk miller 07-28-2008, 11:51 AM Good horns can be useful if not used simply to annoy. The horn on the RL is OK but the one on my wife's Civic is like a joke buzzer. If I were a horn user I would replace it with one from a "56 Ford!:D
dk miller 07-28-2008, 11:55 AM Come to think of it, the horn set I installed on my old motorcycle do sound like a "56 Ford!
Personally, I'm hoping for pic's and a pricing estimate, as I'd love a loud horn on my 'Ridge and on my wife's Odyssey. And on our street bikes!
Congrats for getting it installed and weathering the negativity. Reminds me of Spiro Agnew, who had that comment about the nattering nabobs of negativism!

I have a Nautilus Air Horn on my CBR ! Have have had it for a few years. Used it many times and glad I have had it when the need was present.
Have only used the Train Horn on the RL once so far but very useful under the right conditions.
tacky1 07-28-2008, 10:31 PM C'mon... post pictures, WHERE ARE DA PICCIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
meinahonda 07-28-2008, 11:26 PM I think its an awesome idea and I'm glad to see more and more people like john01xx personalize their ridges.
I cant wait for the pics
Kudos on wiring it to the stock alarm.
John01XX 07-30-2008, 07:16 AM Added Pictures of the 4 trumpets mounted two on each side
Had to remove the whole front end to find room
Mounted the tank and compressor in the trunk
choo choo !!!!!!!
tacky1 07-30-2008, 09:59 AM LoL.. Thanks for the piccies, Those things are HUGE.. :)
Nice fitting job, looks nice,
I would love to hear what they sound like.:D
ToyTruck 07-30-2008, 11:56 AM John, you need to post an mp3 somewhere. I love it. I agree that there are plenty of uses for a louder than stock horn--some less than fun loving people here may poo poo them, but when I catch people reading a novel or brochure (propped on their steering wheel) while traveling at 70+ mph it makes me want to give them a big "woo-woo" blast, ha ha ha. Way to go!
John01XX 07-30-2008, 12:46 PM Here is a link for a sound file of the system that I had installed from the HornBlasters website. Scroll down for the sound file samples

Only one? I have two on mine... Nice job John. I'd have done it long ago if I had the time to be able tuck it away as good as you did. The only thing I would do different is to aim them sideways rather then pointing down, two to the left, two to the right. :)
xridgelinex 07-30-2008, 09:41 PM John01XX... When you get a chance, I'm just curious how much space you lost in the trunk.... I listen to the sound file for your model... It definitely would make me more alert if I had to hear that right behind me....
John01XX 07-30-2008, 11:44 PM lost about 20% of trunk space due to compressor and 2 gal. tank but with the Bakflip and bed extender I don't use the trunk a whole bunch

As and added bonus, does your tank allow you to use air tools?

I hope you are not a member of law enforcement. That would be a scary thought.

RkyMntHigh 01-12-2009, 03:52 AM LOL this is great. My brother had one on his truck in Fl. Would scare the pants off people. But he needed it the way people drove in Tampa nearly got ran into 5 times on the Highway before he installed it. The best thing he did though (purely to be a jerk, and it was funny. . . sometimes) was to install a Loud Speaker so he could yell at people while driving. I have never seen so many middle fingers since I walked down the street holding a "W '04" sign. I just glade he didn't get shot.

Trust me, I am not a practical joker and I will not be blasting anybody to get a chuckle. I will be blasting those with their heads up their cabooses! I also hope that those I do blast are smart enough not to want to get in a gun fight with me.
lorunner1213 01-12-2009, 02:32 PM How about an Audio sample ???

DogBoneRTL 01-12-2009, 07:47 PM Oh Man!!! I have GOT to get me some train horns now! :D
jrcrum 01-13-2009, 01:21 AM Don't take this the wrong way but it amazes me that people like these. I always get the you're number 1 salute going by on a train. And when I tell people Im a locomotive engineer people are like "you're that jerk that wakes me up!" Im just curious how loud are they? I believe our new motors have about a 100 db horn on them.
