I am curious how many formum members took advantage of the Pep Boys clearance sale on the Bed XTender by Westin. Thanks to John in Florida I was able to purchase one and install it on my Ridgeline.

It's the best $39 I've ever spent. Pip derek77 07-28-2008, 01:02 PM Heck, the extender was such a good deal, I had to buy a ridge a couple weeks later to install it on...:D John01XX 07-28-2008, 01:02 PM I bought a total of 9 of them. Kept one for myself and turned on two friends that have Tacoma's that bought their own as well. Shipped out 8 to members here and could have shipped a couple more if I found more. RustyH 07-28-2008, 01:26 PM I bought three, one for myself and two for Phx area ROC members. McRidgeline 07-28-2008, 01:33 PM Sadly, there are no Pep Boys in the Lex. KY area. Loved Pep Poys when I lived in VA. Wish they had'em here. I voted 'interested if available'. roba 07-28-2008, 01:42 PM I got one of the nine that John purchased in FL. I wasn't sure how much use I'd have for it, but at that price I couldn't pass it up. Turns out I've used it multiple times in the last couple of weeks. This thing is handy! Thanks again to John and Supersnout. utvnut 07-28-2008, 08:06 PM The bed extender was very expensive for me. After waiting a long time before buying any new ridge toys it was too good a deal to pass so I got one in Annandale Virginia. Then, The Bakflip group buy arrived and I saw the extender fits under the cover and the cover will keep someone from "borrowing" the extender with it's quick release clips. then of course, I needed a pop-n-lock. Overall, an expensive extender... Pug 07-29-2008, 03:41 AM Yep! :) As roba said, even though I'd questioned "the need" for one, after getting it I found it to be an extremely practical addition. Along with the other uses I listed in a post in the original thread, I found that it makes a handy portable shelf when detailing the truck, to hang cloths from and it keeps my applicators off the ground when I need to set them down. Heck! I even put a piece of a ceiling tile on one end of it, so I could set my BEER down in the shade when I had to pick the applicator up again! $39 is a steal for anything that can keep my BEER upright and cold! BruceRTL 07-29-2008, 07:45 AM My XTender has been ridding up close to the back window for about a week now. I do have it locked to one of the brackets and clipped using a couple of carabiners. It worked great this past weekend as myself and 3 others drove north for some day hiking. It held the packs secure and upright. 5S Dude 07-29-2008, 07:56 AM My XTender has been ridding up close to the back window for about a week now. We bought the original bed extender from AMP Research and the spring steel return mechanism has snapped off so the latches are no longer spring loaded and I’d hate to jettison the X-tender onto the freeway. I’ll try a couple the next time I load up the dirt bikes! Thanks….. BruceRTL 07-29-2008, 08:43 AM Hey that’s a kewl use of a carabineer there Bruce! Another good idea I stole, from, "Voices In My Head" is the lock. It's actually the gun/pistol lock that was handed out at the Sedona meet. It works great to secure the extender to the bracket in the bed and since I already had one on my pistol, this one was an extra. It's not extremely secure, but will keep the honest people honest! Plagiarism rules! :) Pug 07-29-2008, 10:51 AM Thanks 5S Dude, I actually stole the idea from someone else (was it ChrisM - I don't remember). Would I be able to use it back inside the tailgate, as well? I'll hafta try it out! Isn't it great how ideas get passed around here. Thanks again! :) Hey Bruce! Have you seen that there is a new Matchbox Ridgeline Adventure Set that includes an airplane!? Check-out the Matchbox thread (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/miscellaneous-general-honda-ridgeline-discussions/13786-rl-matchbox-35.html)for a pic! I thought of you and your adventurous spirit when I first saw it. I'm on the hunt for one myself. It kinda reminds me of a "Jurassic Park" type set. Just thought I'd letcha know if you hadn't seen it, yet. ;) BruceRTL 07-29-2008, 11:10 AM Hey! Thanks for the heads-up! Otherwise I would have got one. BruceRTL 07-29-2008, 12:05 PM Do not inhale... oh, wait... :p ;) Now you tell me! Sparkland 07-29-2008, 11:07 PM Used my bed extender today for some light hauling. The tricks I learned on this board worked great. Used the carbinger hooks on the end of the stretch cords secured in the tailgate latches. I had already released the cords when I took the picture--that is why they look slack. The 2x6x10 metal studs are going to be the floor joists for my new 10'x12' shed. Know you guys like pics. Just ignore the smudges in the photo--my lense filter likes to attract my fingerprints. Brad | |
