Cleaning oxydized rims-Help neededjboomer 08-02-2008, 11:55 AM I live in an area that has very rough winters, I just had the opportunity to look at my rims and they are really getting ugly..what can i use to restore the new like appearance..thank john Tcape 08-02-2008, 04:00 PM John, I'd first try some good metal polish. The best ones I've found are Autosol, Wenol, and Flitz. But they're often hard to find. If you can't find these, just get Mother's or any decent off-the-shelf metal/aluminum polish. That should do the trick. Just be to not use anything too abrasive. The wheels have a clear coat on them to protect them, and anything really abrasive will cut the clear coat off, causing the metal to tarnish quickly. Pug 08-03-2008, 01:30 PM I had some "yellowish" staining on the edges of some of the "spokes" that came off with the TurtleWax Liquid Clay Bar that I used on all the other painted surfaces. Must've been a combination of salt/brake dust/oxidation. Hey! I just realized that I didn't polish the rims afterwards! I better get on that before our weather turns ugly again. :o Thanks for "the reminder"! | |
