Hello All,

I know there are plenty of DIY bicycle mount mods out there, I just wanted to post my own for your enjoyment. Hopefully it helps someone with an idea of their own down the line.

I had a welder help create two mounting brakets that would replace the factory tie downs.

BTW..what is the size of your bike? I'm still on the fence and I have seen other ROC members who has built similar bike mounts to yours. Since you are able to close your tail gate?

My current mt bike is a Specialize size Large @ 18

Im not sure how Specialize sizes their bikes. My Trek is a size 54, meaning that the top tube is 54cm.

The fork mount is 2in above the bottom of the windows and sits 3.25in out, So you could hold your bike about in that position and see if it would fit.

How much did the custom brackets cost?

For the entire thing the welder charged an hours labor plus parts and the total was $85. I imagine that the brackets would of been around $30 or so. He did over do it on the tubing, he used really thick metal and that cost extra.

Thanks... I'm thinking about my next version of tonneau cover and I'm in the works designing the rail mounts. Your brackets sparked my imagination.

Those are very thick, you could drill an extra hole or two for tie down use.

Inspired by what I saw on these forums, I've made my own bike rack. When my son's bike is big enough, I need another $10 fork mount and away we go. For now, this works great.

The main brace was stock from Home Depot, and the screw holes aligned perfectly to the mount and needed only a little enlarging to fit the truck and bolts. It comes off in about a minute.

Galvanized aluminum angle piece = $21
Screws and washers = $2.80
Black satin spray paint = lying around the house
Xport fork mount = $10 (on sale at Performance)

In under $35 and it's rock solid. Wish it wasn't so high, but mounting in the bed seemed harder.

Side note -- how to you clean the bed?!

Soap and water. ;)

Seriously, after washing as you normally would, use Armor All to remove the white scuff marks. There are other kinds of black you can use to fill in deep scratches.

Good work! Now get out there and ride!

They do make a removable bar with fork mounts on it. It fits any size bed and goes in and out in a few seconds. I have one from my old Ford truck. It might not work that well for the length though. I haven't tried mine on my new Ridgeline. My favourite way to carry my prize possessions is with my Thule bike rack that attaches to my hitch. I love it. My Specialized Enduro has a through front hub with no quick release. It carries 4 bikes without undoing front wheels and it literally takes me about 45 seconds to load on 4 bikes. You never have to worry about bikes smashing around like most of the other bike racks.

Here's my mount that I made. I've got around $60 in mine. I've added wheel carriers since this picture was taken.

similar to NVHONDAPILOT, but it cost cheaper $30 and 30 min to make. You can also mount it to the wall of the car by remove 3 hex nut.

That looks like a great idea! What is the metal bar you used? Does your bike fit in your bed with the tailgate closed?

You can buy this bar at home depot, they use this to support cable or electric wiring, you can find this at electric section. it is cheaper and stonger than an L shape bar. Yes it fit with your tailgate close.

Thanks. I'll check it out... and look for some fork mounts.
