I am interested in a bed extender but don't see how it would work with the in-bed trunk. Am I missing something?

Can the bed extended come on and off easily if spring clips or hitch pins were used?

Can the bed extended come on and off easily if spring clips or hitch pins were used? The bed extender comes with 4 latches that are mounted to the bed of the truck. There are 2 on each side at inside rear of the bed of truck. Also the other 2 are mounted forward of the bed of truck.
The extender when used in the rear position just slides into the 2 latch slots.
You can flip it over when not in use say if the tailgate is not in the drop down position or you can flip it back the other way if you need it when the tailgate is down & you need the extender. The extender can be taken off or put on in 3 or 4 seconds. If you do not need it just leave it at home.
If you need to get into the trunk just take the bed extender off it is very light weight. If you do not have a tonneua cover on the truck you could have the extender placed in the forward latch position in the bed depending on what your hauling in the bed. In the forward position you can store stuff in the extender/rack like a cooler. The only draw back to the extender is if you have the OEM tonneau cover on you can not use the extender as a rack in the forward position. If you taker the cover off & have the bed open it can be used in that way. Iam not sure about the other bed covers. In the rear mounted position with OEM bed cover you can use it & flip it over in the slot without even taking it out of the slot.

Even easier than the clips is that if you flip the extender to vertical position, it slides right out/in thanks to flats on the mounting pins.

I leave my bed extender on the front latches so I can access the in-bed trunk. This way its always with me in case I need it unexpectedly.

Just know that they do not have a lock, so you will need to find a locking mechanism (i.e. bike chain) to secure it. Otherwise anyone can walk off with it (without brackets, of course). :(

Luckyboy, did you buy the westin bed extender part# 10-0010? If so, did they have the brackets for it, part#10-9900? If so, I need the brackets, I have one around me but the Pep Boys around me don't have the brackets and told me they can't get them. Can anyone help me?

The pep boys one is great for 39 bucks but it does NOT come with the brackets for the forward mounting position. I also was wondering if those parts alone are available.

It looks like they are available. But they are not cheap! (in relation to what you paid for the bed extender)

Don't think I will pay 60 dollars for extra clamps for a 40 dollar part. Too bad, 10 or 20 bucks might have been worth it but I'll do without, thanks.

10-4 people thanks for the info, I'll rig something up myself before paying that much.
