: My new P&S camera: Canon S5
I got a new camera: Canon S5. wow! what good photos compared to my old Olympus C-740.
Here are a few of my test shots. Granted, some have some issues, but gimme a break, just a few hours with it and didn't even open the manual yet (hehehe)
I was standing about 3 feet away: (untouched photos)

With this one, I saw a wasp land on a rock, so I figured, what the heck, I'll try.
I was standing about 10 feet away (Auto mode). I think the camera didn't focus on the wasp, but good enough for my first attempt

McRidgeline 08-24-2008, 09:29 PM I have the S1 IS... the first generation of the S5. And I loved it. It recently died after thousands of pictures and I'm only looking at the S5. My only fear is that the S5 has been out over a year now and I'm thinking maybe an S6 will be out soon.
Can't go wrong either way.... awesome camea and some great pics you have taken.
Enjoy! :D

The lens cover truly is crap. I'll be buying a Lens adapter for my glare filter, so hopefully that will have a cover :) Else I'll have to figure out something.
I bought it immediately instead of buying online as I needed a camera as mine is "dead to me" after failing one too many times. I bought it at Best buy at a price of $349.99, but I found a 10% off coupon online which took off $35, so I paid $315+tax.
Victorinox 08-24-2008, 11:13 PM Every Pro Photographer will tell you.. There is Canons and everything else.
Lenses just awesome for the price. even on P&S cameras.
I have 2 right now. Tiny SD450 is few years old and always in my glove compartment.
D40 with various lenses for special photo trips.

Pizza Man 08-25-2008, 05:40 AM Great photos!
I have the S2IS, my daughter the S3. Great cameras! A little bulky perhaps, but a teriffic all around camera. Enjoy Keith!
Tcape 08-25-2008, 09:42 AM Keith, I have the Canon S1 IS. Great little camera, but it did very poorly in low light conditions. The S5 is a great improvement over the preceeding models. Your photos attest to that. Great shots! I love macro photography (close ups), and your S5 is doing a great job with that. I currently have a Canon XT, and like others have said, you just can't go wrong with Canon. I was a die-hard Nikon user for years, but I do feel Canon makes the best camera now. I'm sure the Nikon folks will jump in here and argue the point....as they could easily do. Bottom line, buy Canon or Nikon for the best cameras made. Glad to see you're pleased with your new S5!
Great shots! I love macro photography (close ups), and your S5 is doing a great job with that. haha, that's not even macro, that's simply zooming in (auto mode). I did a couple of macro shots of the keypad on my phone. the detail was really something! hahaha of course it's simply pixels is what I am seeing. previously, I had 3.2 Meg and wasn't even capturing all the pixels I could, but with this camera, I'm certainly going to capture all 8 meg of them :)
