rakapur 09-19-2008, 07:05 PM i got 2 light up license plate frames and im thinking of putting one on the back plate of my ridgeline only problem is those are illegal here. what i am thinking of doing is wiring it to go on when i press the brakes is that possible?? i only want it to go on when the brakes are pressed does anyone have a wiring diagram of the taillights??
Chuck 09-19-2008, 07:39 PM Are the light frames LED's? If so, you should be able to tap directly into the taillight circuit. According to the 2006-2007 ETM, the wire you are looking for in the taillight assembly is WHT/BLK (+12v). Maybe someone with an '08 can confirm this.

yeah they are LED's doy you have a wiring diagram?? or know of a site that has it?? i will take the lights off tomorrow and look at it
Chuck 09-19-2008, 07:55 PM Yes, I have the diagram. All you need to do is identify the +12v break light wire (WHT/BLK on '06 and '07 as stated previously), then a suitable location to attach your ground wire. Do you have a volt meter?

ground wire???? isnt there a negative wire connected to the brakes?? no i dont have a volt meter (dont even remember how to use one)
Chuck 09-19-2008, 08:02 PM ground wire???? isnt there a negative wire connected to the brakes??
That would work as well, should be a BLK wire in the taillight assembly.

so the white is positive and black is negative?? i just splice the wires and connect??
Chuck 09-19-2008, 08:11 PM so the white is positive and black is negative?? i just splice the wires and connect??
+12v WHT/BLK
-12v BLK
Once again, this is based on information in the '06 - 07' ETM. I have no way of verifying this on an '08, that is why I asked if you had a volt meter. Splice with caution! :)

i would think its the same on the 08's, i think i will call Honda corp tomorrow and ask guess i have to go to advance auto again tomorrow for the plate bracket i knew i should have gotten it today.
i will post some pictures when i get the plate on the truck
Chuck 09-19-2008, 08:17 PM Good luck!
Looking forward to the pics!
rakapur 09-20-2008, 06:48 PM it didnt work??? i think the 08' has a different harness, there was a black with a thin white strip connected to the brake light, then a black connected to the signal i hooked the positive to the white and black then the negative to the black :(
rakapur 09-20-2008, 06:56 PM anyone know where i can get a new taillight wire harness???
Chuck 09-20-2008, 08:01 PM Oh no! I hope you didn't ruin the harness? I suggested that you should splice with caution. :)
I just took my right taillight apart to check the wire colors. The wires change color at the connector, so depending on where you make your splice, colors will differ. The wires you want (just verified with my DVM) are +12v GRN and -12v BLK/WHT. See pic below. My apologies for the wire color confusion. I should have taken a closer look BEFORE I made recommendations.

i kinda ruined it but.... i was stupid and tried a few different combos of wires. i found a site that i can get it for $30 shipped, i will try again tomorrow, before i order and hook up the new harness.
you were right kinda with the colors above the brake pedal is connected with black and white wires
also i was under the truck today and i found a harness connector for something its not a very good picture but, next to the in bed trunk on the driver side
Chuck 09-20-2008, 08:24 PM How were you making your splices? Sorry to hear you had problems with this. I feel bad about the color confusion! The connector you found is for the hitch.
I did a quick search, it looks like you need part# 33502-SJC-A01
Majestic lists it at $16.80, not sure what shipping would be.

i was cutting the wire stripping it (am i the only one that finds those words wrong??) then using a crimp set then electric tape, thats of about the color dont feel bad, i didnt even call honda to double check. what website did you find it for $16.80??
Chuck 09-20-2008, 08:36 PM http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/jsp/mws/PartsSearch.jsp
rakapur 09-20-2008, 08:43 PM alright i look at that site, the car is drivable right now i didnt really mess it up i just dont want to drive around with the black wire on the turn signal cut, the red wire and the black/white wire on the brake cut and crimped together
Chuck 09-20-2008, 09:26 PM Do you know how to solder? Ever use heatshrink tubing? If not, there is no better time than the present to learn how. :)

i know how to solder but dont have any of the stuff, after i get the new wire harness i will get some heat shrink tubing (does it work with a hair dryer??)
JOZ RIDG 09-20-2008, 09:57 PM i know how to solder but dont have any of the stuff, after i get the new wire harness i will get some heat shrink tubing (does it work with a hair dryer??)
Hair dryer won't work well.
After soldering is done clean the tip of the soldering iron off with a wet paper towel and rub the tip up and down slowly on the heat shrink tubing - trying not to hold it in one spot too long.
Better yet - use the heating body area of the soldering iron - not as hot.
Move it over all sides of the tubing especially the ends.
Get the smallest size tubing that will fit over the wire and splice - too large and this heating method won't work well.
Good luck on the wiring job.
PS - I would use "quick disconnect" splices somewhere in the plate wires so you can disconnect easily to get your ticket/violation checked off. ;)

i dont have a soldering iron, would a lighter work then?? and cause its going to be a 4th brake lights its a safety feature so it won't be illegal
Chuck 09-21-2008, 12:15 AM A lighter will work if used carefully! Shrink with caution! :)
If you had access to a soldering iron/gun, you could easily repair the harness you have. Food for thought.

i tried it, it still does not work..... are you sure this wire is running 12V???? how about the red wire whats that for??
rakapur 09-22-2008, 02:48 PM why dont we (or at least most guys) not read instructions??? i am a ****** idiot :(
there are 2 extra wires that i just left alone an ignition wire and alarm wire.... i was suppose to connect the ignition wire with the positive!!!! and i am think maybe somethings wrong with the frame NO SOMETHINGS WRONG WITH ME!!! but in my defence i opened the package with the plate frame a few months ago trying to get my friend to put it on his car and i lost the instructions
http://streetglow.com/products/instructions/sgledlp.pdf
i will try again maybe on wen. (after i try this i think i will know the radio code in my head)
Chuck 09-23-2008, 09:43 PM Silly instructions! Who needs 'em? :)
I am totally un-familiar with the Streetglow products, so I can be of no assistance there.
Are you installing the control unit as well? If so, this might complicate things.
Andy-Montreal 09-23-2008, 10:09 PM Rakapur, pardon me for being so blunt and direct on the subject but, "Do you have any clue as to what you are doing?"
The only thing that Chuck has not done for you was wire your unit to the truck and you still managed to burn up your harness! Please do yourself a favor and let the dealer or a qualified mechanic do this work for you before you toast your ride down to the ground.
Don't take this as an insult but when I want to eat homemade apple pie, I let somebody else do the cooking.;):)

yes Chuck there is going to be a control unit, but i wouldnt think it would complicate things it is water proof so ill just stick in the bumper
and Andy, i kinda know what im doing, about 80%-90% i know, the biggest thing are the wires, Chuck gave me what i think is the wiring for the brake, i found out its 100% legal if it comes on with the parking/taillights because they are red, i DID NOT!!! burn the wiring harness i just cut a bunch of the wires and rather not drive around with them all cut up and crimped/electric taped together
rakapur 09-25-2008, 01:33 PM can someone please send me a diagram of the wiring!! i have an idea since there are 2 power wires i can connect the power and ignition for the plate frame to the taillight power wire, and then the alarm wire to the brake power wire, so when i brake the light will flash giving extra warning to the driver behind me, i looked at http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10822 but those seem to be the wrong colors there is only black/white, red/black, and green
which wire is which??
black/white
red/black
green
