ChrisM 09-25-2008, 08:51 PM I just got a set of Romik Step Bars from Jason over at Burtmanindustries.com. I have to say that I am impressed with them. These step bars are sort of a nerf bar/running board hybrid and are nothing like anything else on the market.
I wanted something that functioned like a running board with the look of a nerf bar. My son is going to be old enough in the spring that he can climb up in the back of my truck by himself so I wanted to get something that I was sure he could stand on without slipping off of. I also wanted something that would minimize the amount of crap that gets slung up from the front tires in adverse weather since our front mud flaps don't flap very well. These fit the bill perfectly.
The first thing that I noticed about these steps are that they only have 2 mounting points. I was somewhat skeptical of the strength of the mounting with only 2 mounting points. My skepticism was unwarranted. The front mount bolts on in 2 different places under the truck using a total of 4 bolts.
These are perhaps the strongest running boards that I have come across.
Fit and finish seem to be top notch. I had a little shipping damage but I blame that on the Fed Ex idiot who did the drop and run on me.
Anyways, the price point on these is a little higher than your run of the mill side step but IMO they are worth it. They are tough, look different than anything else out there and very functional. I got 2 compliments on them just tonight from my neighbors.
I'd also mention that you can also adjust the distance that you mount the steps from the side of the truck by about an inch. I have mine mounted all the way in.
I highly recommend these to anyone who is looking for a pair of side steps no matter what the need. They also add 5 mpg. (J/K)
PS. My old side steps are going on the trading post.

5S Dude 09-25-2008, 09:11 PM I want those real bad Chris! So you’ve got them mounted as close to the cab as possible huh? And they can be mounted 1.0” further out board right? Can you post photos of the reduction in ground clearance, mounting brackets and their location? They have the perfect look I’ve been searching for.
An integrated “Dress Bar” similar to Twintym’s pre-production units, powder-coated in wrinkle black would go very nicely to close the gap between the Step Bars and the bottom of the cab………
I think they look awesome on your truck! BTW.
ChrisM 09-25-2008, 09:41 PM I'll post pictures tomorrow of your request but I took some quick measurements. The lowest part of the nerf bar bracket or bar sits about 2 1/2 inches below the side rail. I have a full 12" of clearance under the front bracket and 11 1/4" of clearance under the back bracket on level ground. I have a Truxxx lift kit so you have to subtract about 2" from the front clearance and about 1" from the back for a non lifted Ridgeline.
The side step rides more beside the truck than it does under it. These have the highest ground clearance of any nerf type side step that I have come across.
The brackets are very heavy duty. I'd say that they are at least 5/8" thick. Perhaps 3/4" thick. I'd guess that you'd be very hard pressed to bend these brackets. They are both so heavy duty that I wouldn't hesitate to use either of the brackets as a jacking point since both brackets mount in multiple locations under the truck.
IMO they are the perfect offroader type step because of how heavy duty they are.
An added bonus is that you don't have to use one of those rivnut tools to mount them. They use existing mounting locations under the truck. No drilling or modificaiton of the frame is needed. Installation took about an hour.
5S Dude 09-25-2008, 11:09 PM Thanks Chris. I’m fairly sure these are the same units that will end up on our Ridgeline. We've been looking a long time.
We don’t venture too far off road but do drive slow & carefully to some remote areas setting up base camp when dirt bike riding and did not like the reduced ground clearance the other brands provide.
Chris93Si 09-26-2008, 06:06 AM Nice looking steps. If you can could you also post a pic of the truck from the side showing the whole truck and one from the front looking down the side of the truck. Thanks in advance :)
Oh yeah, any idea how much they weigh?
venomadness 09-26-2008, 06:16 AM Very nice! How much?
ChrisM 09-26-2008, 07:25 PM Very nice! How much?
They cost US $387. I'm pretty sure that they can get you a set to Europe since they are manufactured in Spain. Call Jason at www.burtmanindustries.com and ask him if he can ship them there. They are shipped out of Pennsylvania in the US.
I see in your sig that you are now in Germany. I though you lived in the US. Are stationed over there now for the military?

WyoRL 09-26-2008, 09:27 PM Hey Chris, separate question....did you have your center caps painted or did you do them yourself? What did you use?
ChrisM 09-27-2008, 04:17 AM Hey Chris, separate question....did you have your center caps painted or did you do them yourself? What did you use?
I painted them myself with a rattle can of Krylon Fusion spray paint.

Nice, I'll have to try that. Did you just sand them a bit before painting? Also, do you know if there is a way to get the center caps off without taking the wheel off?

I used a small screwdriver at the edges to take them off. I sanded the center caps down to the plastic. All of the gray color was totally gone when I painted them.

Awesome, thanks for the help. I'm going to do this tomorrow. Thanks!

ChrisM 09-28-2008, 02:03 PM Andy no special tool, right? I love them more and more!
I'm not Andy and don't call me Shirley but no special tools are required.
All you need are 13mm and 17mm sockets, a 17mm wench, a socket wrench and your "mitts" to install them. :)
PS. The bars don't stick out beyond the wheels at all with them positioned in the all the way in position.
They also come in chrome for you chrome lovers out there. I'm not the chrome lovin' type but I guess you couldn't have guessed that from my pictures.

Thanks for your help. They turned out great. I posted pics in the black wheel thread.

Beaullieu 09-30-2008, 10:59 AM I put the same Romik side steps on my RTX over a year ago. They have held up well and I'm very pleased. I've attached a couple of pics so you can see how they look on a Dark Cherry Pearl.
