I know, we just had the 2008 All Cal ROC meet. Only three of us die hards showed up for this meet, even with all the preparation, reserved group sites [ I wont do that again ], polls and my emailing over 100 California ROC members, still only three:(. I agree it is far to drive, but heck, I am within 90 miles of the Oregon border and I made it to the meet. But I started this years meet and was not going to miss it for anything, even if I had to walk there. and I am not kidding, 495 miles to Yosemite would not have stopped me, once I am on the track with something, there is no stopping my engine:D.
I talked with Tony [ toobuku ] and Doug [ dsowell ] and they like the idea of Santa Cruz again, but maybe this time, take the Roaring camp train back and forth from the boardwalk to Felton and also do the steam train ride at Henry Cowell State park and maybe do the Pebble Beach / 17 mile drive again. If not Santa Cruz, maybe Pismo Beach. I have not been there since I was around nine or ten and that was 1969 and 1970. Though this year it was supposed to be here in the north to save me miles for a change and 2009 is supposed to be closer to the south to save them miles, but only Tony came up from the south, Doug lives within 130 miles of Yosemite. I did 1003.8 miles for this meet. Tony headed for the game in the Bay Area, so he may have a similar mileage tally as mine. Any way, lets try and make next years meet a spectacular one. I will start saving all my change for next year and it should cover my gas. If any one plans on camping next year, they are on their own, I paid 160 dollars to reserve group site for this year and was the only one at the site, there was no getting my money back, so it cost me bookoo bucks just to pitch a tent:mad:. You are all on your own next year because I will only reserve a site just for me.
So, if anyone has better suggestions for next years meet, please make them. I always enjoy myself at the meets and love meeting up with the club members; even if it is only two of them at a time. With all the planning I did this year, all the emails and private messages I sent, I had really thought that this would have been the meet of meets. Enough members live within 200 miles of Yosemite or less that we could have easily had well over 20 or 30 Ridgelines at the meet. Oh well, I tried and did my best. At least I thought I did.
