: Ridgeline bogs when warm after running 5 hours off and on stop and go...
tonkatruck 10-20-2008, 11:00 AM I have an o8 Ridge. When I deliver pizza in this truck, AFTER turning it off every delivery, about 4 or 5 hour sinto my shift the gas pedal feels stiff and the truck barely moves unless it is floored from a dead stop... Could this be bad gas? No check engine light is on. I have been running Phillips 89 octane since this happened, only got better gas mileage by 1.5 m.p.g., Tonka still bogs down...Tonka has backfired during passing at about 5500 6000 r.p.m. also. The only mod I have is a K and n cold air kit, and this has been the same since day one. Also when Tonka is warmed up, the exhaust smells like chlorine bleach... real noxious... Any help?

chisoxjim 10-20-2008, 11:04 AM take it to the dealer, sounds like "tonka" as issues.

I wouldn't tach-out Tonka this early in the break-in process. ( I saw your post in another thread...1500mi.

There's the problem. How many pizza deliveries did that cost you? Why put that crap on there?
RidgeLI 10-20-2008, 11:26 AM You said the exhaust smells.....possibly your catalytic converter is going, and sometimes the "brick" inside the converter causes blockage and may explain hesitation.

shovelhd 10-20-2008, 12:18 PM Maybe it's fouled out from the K&N oil.
tonkatruck 10-20-2008, 01:32 PM The k and n was only put on recently. I am getting 16.5 m.p.g. city instead of 15, so it didnt cost me a thing lol... Break in process is a bunch of hog wash... They tested two identical 1988 labaron turbos, one broken in to factory specs, one not, they both burned the SAME amount of oil at 100,000 miles lol

So where did you get your mechanical engineering degree?:D
Oh... and who is "they"
tonkatruck 10-20-2008, 02:15 PM Mechanical engineering degree, school of Hard Knocks, I know after about 350-to 500 miles the piston rings have completly seated and the engine has been broken in, if it was 2500 to 5000 miles, then why arent all the vehicles that are hot rodded blown up already? "They" were the cars they tested for this break in process. I have taken my truck to the dealer, they drove it cold said it drives fine. I cannot take the truck in to the dealer when this issue happens because I am working and it is usually about 1 or 2 am... I believe the dealer needs to give me a loaner and keep my truck till they figure out whats wrong with it... Doesn't anyone else name things they love???:D

Jace, how's it possible that due to rising fuel prices, everybody and his uncle is selling their pick-up truck or SUV these days but you've decided to use your truck to deliver Pizza? Man, you must be plenty rich!
I've outlined (in color) a few facts from your post in a strained effort to find a logical solution to your strange problem.
1) o8 - Brand new truck
2) gas pedal feels stiff - Strange how this can happen seeing that the throttle is electronically-controlled but alas, stranger things have happened in the past
3) truck barely moves - This phenomenon must be somehow related to fact no.2. If the pedal cannot be depressed easily, the truck will not launch as it was designed to
4) Tonka has backfired during passing at about 5500 6000 r.p.m. - See fact no.5 for possible reason
5) K and n cold air kit - See fact no.4 for possible reason
6) exhaust smells like chlorine bleach - Have you been running Octane Boost + or AvGas in your Ridgeline?
After reviewing all the facts and using an educated process of elimination, I believe that I may have found what your problem is.
Your floor mat is stuck underneath your accelerator pedal.;)
As described in Wikipedia Encyclopedia:
"The process of elimination is a basic logical tool to solve real world problems. By subsequently removing options that may be deemed impossible, illogical, or can be easily ruled out due to some sort of explicit understanding relative to the entire set of options, the pool of remaining possibilities grows smaller."

tonkatruck 10-20-2008, 08:20 PM Well, I can see why I am no longer going to be a member of this club. Not only am I considered an idiot for going with k & n which I Seriously doubt is my issue since the truck has been &*&%3e since 1500 miles and the filter was put on at 4500, but I feel as though people just dont listen to my questions, and would like to insult me instead...The gas pedal can feel harder if the truck is bogging down, as in I have to press harder for the same effect as when the truck runs right, man I hate slow people...I gave up 62000 dollars a year, I have a 140 I.Q. , the pizza joint I work at pays me about 30,000 a year working 4 days a week and they reinburse me for gas, so no im not rich...and I dont need to put up with any of anyones #&*%... Pizza Man 10-21-2008, 04:12 PM I think it's time I should insert my expert opinion on this issue. I offer my Screen Name as proof of my level of expertise. After giving the described symptoms careful review I can can now explain the phenomenon.
Pizza's, when coupled with extra cheese, pepperoni and onions, will exude a complex gas that will completely fill the enclosed cockpit of any vehicle used for transporting them. This gas is undetectable. It is often confused with the Pizza aroma itself. Normal exposure to this gas is usually harmless. Pizza Delivery personnel, on the other hand, are overexposed to this gas. Although the gas has no lasting effects, overexposure will result in muddled thinking and exaggerated conclusions. There is also a feeling of weakness associated with this overexposure. Oddly, this weakness only affects only the right leg, below the knee, and results in a stiffening of the right ankle, making driving difficult, especially during acceleration.
This theory is proved out by the fact that all symptoms subside, usually at the end of a delivery shift. It then reoccurs with repeated exposure.
Sadly, there is no cure.
arteegee 10-21-2008, 04:45 PM Sadly, there is no cure.
That explains some of it, Joe.
25 Year Honda Owner 10-21-2008, 05:45 PM What Joe says!! The stiffening of the right ankle explains the delivering of Pizzas at 5,000/6,000 RPM!! If this syndrome is contagious I would hope that more bosses/supervisors foot the fuel bill for their delivery guys!!

ToyTruck 10-22-2008, 12:44 PM Man, tough room. Although tonka's break in practice is rather questionable, and his willingness to declare the rings being seated at 300 miles , you guys hit him pretty hard for having a K & N. I'm sure there are members here that have a drop in K & N or other type of aftermarket filter and have experienced no problems. My service advisor uses K & N drop in's on all his Hondas he's ever owned w/o any issues.
TonkaTruck -- Sounds like something either physically wrong with your pedal mechanism, a bad cat, or somebody over oiled the K & N filter. Just guesses, but my IQ is only 155 :D

RidgeOwner3 10-24-2008, 09:33 AM I wasn't going to say anything, but now I am truly insulted.
As a former pizza delivery boy/man (it was a confusing time), I was NEVER reimbursed for my fuel. I was given a percentage from the price of the pizzas I delivered. So, using my 473 IQ, I quickly figured out that if I drove a small car with better mileage and delivered more pizzas per trip, I actually got PAID MORE! COOL!
And I was one of the best, let me tell you!
Rant over!:D
tigertom1965 10-24-2008, 11:19 AM Gee! My Ridgeline bogs when it is cold not when it is hot. Once it warms up it runs fine. It almost bucks when I am stepping on the gas around home at stops and on the backroads when I first step on the gas to speed up. I don't have a K&N filter either I have a Purolator OE replacement panel filter. It is funny though if thats the case because it has been on there for several thousand miles and just started this last tank.
Maybe its bad gas  or winter mix gas? I have been running 93 octane Shell gas for the last week but it has been really cold (at or below freezing temps) the last week or so. Yes I do know I don't need to do this but it feels like it has 150 HP & 150 ftlbs when using regular 87 octane gas since I got it. Running 93 octane sure helped out in the quickness department.
As far as busting his chops for using a Ridgeline for deliveries. Not all of us have a paycheck big enough for multiple cars in the driveway. Some of us need a truck, not a little Yaris or other econo buggy. Especially when winter hits and you've got to travel 100 miles a day on snowy, slushy, or icy roads.
I do have two questions though:
1) How can you afford a $30000 vehicle when you are only making $30000 a year? I don't know of anybody that has a bank that would write a loan like that.
2) I know that Toyotas are called Toys or Tacos but where in the heck did the Tonka name come from to describe a Ridgeline???

I must contest... I make between 27,000 and 32,000 a year depending on overtime and the bank hooked me up. :P I just don't spend money on pizza so I have enough to make my payment.
tonkatruck 10-25-2008, 12:29 PM Well, I average 590 a week, before taxes and since my tax bracket is soo small, (6.55 an hour) I make about 550 a week bring home, which is more like 35,000 if you consider the tax advantage... I had decent credit, my girlfriend had to co sign since I can only prove 6.55 an hour lol, 576 a month with the:cool: lil negative equity I had. I could afford another car payment, sure, but why? Where I live, the roads are so bad in the winter, 6 inches of snow in the city is 3 feet out here... I cannot justify paying another 100 a month in insurance for a beater, then having to worry about maintenance on the beater ect.. Tonka is the name of my truck cuz he looks like a toy...
so any more comments on the topic?
Andy-Montreal 10-26-2008, 12:11 PM so any more comments on the topic?
Keith, seeing that every imaginable topic in this post has been explored, which particular one would you be referring to:
1) How a guy who makes minimum wage can afford to drive a Ridgeline
2) Why a guy who makes minimum wage uses his Ridgeline to deliver Pizza
3) Why a guy who has an IQ of 139-140 drives a Ridgeline
4) Why a guy who has an IQ of 139-140 delivers Pizza
5) Why a guy who has an IQ of 139-140 who drives a Ridgeline and delivers Pizza hates his ROC brotheren
6) Why the bogging problem all along has been a misplaced pizza pie that has gotten stuck under the gas pedal preventing the truck from launching
7) Why the RL gang can't just get along with Rodney from the Tundra/Tacoma gang:o:D
Good points Andy, I am stumped

Make your own dough.
The toppings are up to your individual tastes. One of my favorite combinations is Fontina, Mozzerella, a little Romano and Gorgonzola with Roasted Asparagus.
