I'm currently running a single 10" ED sub. I'm contemplating adding 1 more to add that extra 'punch'.
The problem is that when I bought the sub it was for my previous truck which had a much smaller cabin. There was also no way to ever fit a second sub so I got it in a Dual 4-ohm Voice Coil configuration - so I could run it bridged and wired in parallel at 2-ohms.
Now, all things considered, I've always loved the way this sub sounds. That being said If I added a second one (same 4-ohm DVC setup) I'd gain the extra cone-surface I'm looking for but.... I'd lose the power as I'd have to wire each sub in series (8-ohms) and then both in parallel to the amp (4-ohms total load.) My amp is NOT 1-ohm stable.
Would moving up from 2 to 4-ohms make adding the second sub a wash? I think I could swing the extra sub and enclosure but starting over would be cost prohibitive.
Any ideas?
Just for clarification: I listen almost exclusively to rock. I really like to 'feel' it when the bass drum hits.

IMO adding a second driver without increasing the power doesn't buy you enough to make the expense worthwhile. I'd get a matching driver and enclosure and power them both up properly.

Don't want to hi-jack this thread, but does anyone know if there is room for three subs behind the back seat? I had a hard time getting two to fit, but had some extra room above and a little on the left side. My existing amps would not fit, but if there was a small form factor mono amp that could fit, it would be good.

:(
Yeah, I was thinking along those lines too. Guess I'll hold off till I can start over.

It's not behind the seat. It's under it.
...got any pics
Yup!

I wish I could take the credit but bad things happen when I touch powertools! :o
The box was made by Mr. Marv (http://community-2.webtv.net/MarvsPlace/MarvsPlace/). He originally built a box, for that sub, for my Tacoma. When I got the RL he figured out what was needed to move the sub to the space under the seats. I'm very happy with it. I'm just getting greedy now and I want more! :D

I think you have another option, ask your box builder about a ported enclosure.
A proper ported enclosure would allow your ED driver to reach full extension resulting in a little more output. The gain in output although minimal, added to what you have could be what your looking for. Again ask you box builder to see what he thinks.
Do a google search sealed vs. ported

Interesting option. I've searched on this before and I 'thought' that sealed offered:
Better response and would hit harder but would not play as low - or play the lows with as much volume to be specific. Plus a smaller enclosure.
Whereas ported offered:
More volume for the lows but a less accurate (slower if you will) response. Not to mention the size of the box would need to be bigger... Not that that matters when I'm contemplating adding a second box anyway... ;)
Do I have it wrong?

I would think the added volume would give you the added punch your looking for.
I not really sure on the aspects you describe, I usually go by "ear" mine to be exact because no two setups are going to sound the same even with the same equipment but I recently went from two ED Slim 10's sealed to two dayton 8's ported and boy day & night. To me the new setup flows much better with the tweet/mid/midbass combo i have going
The other thing i noticed is that your driver is firing up, try it firing down most of the pics of the boxes on this site and firing down. Just turn it over and use something to space the driver off the floor about an 1 inch (two books) as long as the driver has enough room to operate for you testing purposes
Just as a reference the JL audio box fires down as well as the subthump box although these are sealed boxes

What do you have there now 8's, 10's?
Which left driver, are you considering the cubby on the drivers side?
Would this be a hybrid Mdf/fiberglass enclosure?
Perhaps 3x 8's with a alpine 1000.1 or rockford bd500 (the rockford is stable to 1 ohm @ about 900 watts per there website info.
I think with the limited amount of depth and enclosure volume you would be left with 1 to 1.5 cf of airspace not to mention an cutout for the center seatbelt ,the window motor and xm receiver box.
