redisant 02-04-2009, 07:14 AM So I'm driving home in the snow last night and found myself despising the VSA so I push the button to turn it off. Nothing happens... SO I'm getting ready to make an appointment with the dealer and I decide to RTFM...
Just in case others have yet to read the manual cover to cover and expect the buttons in their ridgeline to behave the same way they did in previous year models... the VSA button needs to be held until a beep sounds to turn VSA on and off. I am not sure why Honda did this but I would have looked like a fool at the dealership had I actually brought the truck in had I not decided to read. :D
speedlever 02-04-2009, 07:32 AM Ahh... the trials and tribulations of owning a new vehicle. ;)
MontanaFred 02-04-2009, 07:36 AM Thanks for the info. I probaby won't get a new Ridgeline till my 2006 falls apart but I think the change makes sense. I always hate turning things on and off by just bumping a button.

Maybe Honda did this because some people were accidentally bumping the VSA button with their knee.

It's likely, I used to bump the headlight knob in my '06. The knob is now recessed in the '09 and they are kinda both in knee range.

that would be my guess too
or people were accidentally turning VSA off while trying to turn cruise control or fog lights on...
canadianguy 02-04-2009, 10:28 AM thats funny someone mentioned the 'knees' thing. I just got a 2009 (my first ridgeline) and for the first week couldn't figure out why the darn cargo lights were always on - then i figured it out - i'm always hitting the button with my knee when i get in and out!

So are you! ;) :D
ictjester 07-10-2009, 08:44 AM I think that's a great change. I have an 07 and often use the parking brake because of the inclines I park on. The first time I hit that VSA button with my thumb when releasing the parking brake and turned on that VSA attention light, I nearly freaked. What the heck was wrong with my brand new truck? Pulled out the manual to decipher the light code - then realized what I had done. I continue to do it - but at least now I know what I am doing. I, for one, will be pleased with this new feature when I pick up my new 09.

RTFM... I prefer the F to be fine... but that's just me. :D
Ian Brantford 07-10-2009, 09:59 AM People probably would have a lot less trouble with knees hitting the controls if the Ridgeline had a telescoping steering column. We wouldn't have to sit so close. I nearly skipped buying the vehicle because of this single issue.

Ahhhh... the hazards of the drive-in movie:eek:

Man, am I out of touch. I had to "bing" this one. I'll have to remember those four little letters. :D

The button wasn't moved in to recess it. They redesigned the facia to "stick out" and surround the button making it look recessed :o

I agree, that is why they changed the way it works.
QCRidge 11-15-2009, 09:03 PM Great Post, leared that lesson on my first question here.:o.. It is all in there... operation wise that is.. the really GOOD stuff that you need to know is here..:D
geotech 11-15-2009, 09:50 PM Which brings up my feeling that the VSA button should be up there with VTM-4 button as I almost always use them in tandem, as in VSA off / VTM-4 on. It would be safer to be able to do the procedure without having to look down. For some reason it's generally very busy when I need to press both buttons.
