Toobuku 02-07-2009, 11:11 PM After the lack of participation last year for All Cal Meet in Yosemite, all the talk about returning to Santa Cruz, and changing the meet date, I thought I'd poll it and let the masses decide. So here it goes.....
Okay ROC'ers, multiple choice decision. 2 locations, 2 dates. Winner wins!
Twintym 02-11-2009, 10:26 AM Hey Tony. I was thinking about ideas for the all-Cal meet. My wife started calling motels in Santa Cruz and they are already pretty well booked up. The few that were available seem to hover around $175-185 per night.
Daryl (Gadgetz) works at the Loews resort on Coronado Island in San Diego, so I emailed him. He said he can get us a "friends & family" rate of $99 per night if we want to put something together. It's a really nice resort in a beautiful area. Tell me what you think.

That's an awesome hotel and stayed there courtesy of Gadgetz this past November.
If the "All Cal" is willing to allow some Non-Cal's  you may see us there since I know Kris would be up for SD.
Twintym 02-11-2009, 10:46 AM Kevin you know our AZ buddies are always welcome at Cali meets, and you and Kris are like family (the good kind).
Dan
Dragonslayer 02-11-2009, 12:33 PM I voted for Santa Cruz and for July 11th. I did just over 1000 miles round trip for the Yosemite trip and also made it to both the 06 and 07 meets in Santa Cruz and Mount Diablo. A trip to San Diego would be beautiful, I will grant that, but for me it would be 778 miles one way and that alone is 12 hours and 22 minutes of driving. Yosemite last September was closer to Los Angeles and Central California than Santa Cruz is for me, yet Tony, Doug and his family and myself made it. I think making San Diego the location for the All Cal meet will only make it a predominantly southern Cal meet. The Yosemite meet should have been swamped with Ridgelines from the Sacramento/San Francisco area, but only Doug from Stockton made it. That is why I neglected to give more than Mount Shasta as a location for far Northern Cal in the poll for where to have the 2008 all cal meet. I will gladly make a trip to San Diego, I have never been there. I have only been as far south as Bakersfield and I would make it a grand photo opp. How many people think they would be willing to make the nearly 800 mile trip to Far Northern California in 2010 to have the meet at Mount Shasta just north of Redding? We can drive our trucks up to a parking lot at the 7500 foot elevation and anyone willing or able to try the hike to the 14,000 plus foot peak could give that a try. The mountain is truly majestic from the valley floor or when you are on it. There is even snow boarding on the mountain in July if the winter has been good.
Toobuku 02-11-2009, 12:51 PM hey tony. I was thinking about ideas for the all-cal meet. My wife started calling motels in santa cruz and they are already pretty well booked up. The few that were available seem to hover around $175-185 per night.

work it! :d
gadgetz 02-11-2009, 10:03 PM Hello Everyone...
Directly across from the Loews is the Silver Strand State Beach. It's a great place for a group photo, picnic, bon fire, and swimming if you like really cold water  They allow overnight camping if you have a fully contained trailer/RV.
Loews is pet and kid friendly so bring them if you have them. If you have any questions...PM me.

Toobuku 02-12-2009, 07:02 AM Ok NorCal and CenCal, it was slated to be on this end of the state anyway this year. If that happens, we can slate it for Santa Cruz at the end of September as always for 2010 :).
Dragonslayer 03-04-2009, 09:46 PM I will do my best to make this meet if it is in San Diego. It will be 778 miles one way, 1556 round trip and at least 77 gallons of gas. Considering that it will cost me at least 200 bucks for gas, I would like to find someplace to set up a tent at a camp site. I have only been as far south as Bakersfield to visit my nephew, so this will be some what of an adventure.
At the end of the 2007 meet I was selected to pick a place to have the 2008 All Cal ROC meet and I thought about it and picked Clear Lake just north of San Francisco and eventually gave a selection to choose from. Yosemite won out in that selection by nearly 2/3d's. Even I voted for Yosemite and it was 500 miles one way for me. It was worth it:D, and I would do that one again. But, if 2010 is Central California again at Santa Cruz, which I am all for, then 2011 is for a location in Northern California again. This time I would like to have everyone think about either Sutter Buttes just north of Sacramento, or Mount Shasta near Redding. Sutter Buttes also known as Marysville Buttes is called the worlds smallest mountain range and Mount Shasta is 14,179 feet high and you can drive up to the 7000 foot level I believe.

dsowell 04-02-2009, 07:43 PM I voted Santa Cruz but I would not be against some where south. San Deigo might be a little far but we maybe able to do it.

kanji 04-02-2009, 07:54 PM I would love to do one in the Shasta area in future years. I have never been up that way.
LAKE SHASTA is very nice, gone house boating there a few times and camping isn't half bad, lots of trees for tent camping.
Toobuku 04-02-2009, 08:47 PM Okay SoCal, we need to get some input and votes for the location before the poll closes. I can do either location but if need be I can be the tie breaker. It is suppose to be a southerly get together this year.
For 2010 we were suppose to bring it back to Santa Cruz or do the Mount Shasta thing? Let's plan on San Diego, do Sea World, dinner at the seafood restaurant that bares my name, (Anthony's) and do a caravan onto Coronado Island!
meanmachine19 04-02-2009, 09:49 PM I would be inclined to make it to SD if its in July. August - kids are back in school (here in AZ). Might be able to talk Kris into SC if that's the final answer....close enough to SF so we can make a week of it....
Dragonslayer 04-18-2009, 12:00 AM Well, it looks as if Santa Cruz has taken the lead. I saw that happen with the poll for the 2008 meet and Yosemite had well over 20 votes, but only three of us showed. So far, I believe only Tony and I have made each all cal meet.
Stewie 04-19-2009, 08:09 PM Voted Diego but for Aug, I'll be in Cali for July 11th but got family obligations that weekend.
If Diego is the spot for the 11th of July which is closer to where i'll be staying, maybe they wouldn't miss me for couple hours.
I just tied the score, so who's the tie breaker :)
sedonaaz 04-19-2009, 11:11 PM just had a great weekend and we are planning a disney trip in july anyway. so if that happens I will be there
meanmachine19 04-19-2009, 11:16 PM I know several guys from AZ expressed interest in San Diego if that is the location.
So whatever location is decided, hope it's soon so we can start booking our hotel reservations! :D
RustyH 04-19-2009, 11:17 PM I might be up for a San Diego in July trip, but I don't think I can do Santa Cruz at any time.
e_piph_a_ny 04-20-2009, 08:20 AM I'll go to Santa Cruz or San Diego. Both locations sound great, but it seems Santa Cruz needs a longer commitment for hotel logistics.
I vote for San Diego for 2009.
BruceRTL 04-20-2009, 09:24 AM If it's San Diego we can probably make the meet. :)
San Diego in July - Yea Baby.....

I'm working with our group sales dept. on getting a good rate, however the
11th of July is during our summer rate period. Can you tell me approximately how many people (firm and confirmed) will be attending???
Thanks!
Daryl
e_piph_a_ny 04-29-2009, 09:45 AM Can you tell me approximately home people (firm and confirmed) will be attending???
The poll shows 18 votes for San Diego. However, lets wait for Tony to reply since he is the OP.
gadgetz 04-29-2009, 10:03 AM Hopefully I'm not violating any rules...if I am please delete this post.

kanji 04-29-2009, 08:58 PM what's the cost for the stay per night? Can Daryl get all of us a group & family plan discount? What's the current count of people attending?
MGUZMAN 04-29-2009, 09:15 PM What Tony is saying is that the polls will close May 8th. We will know date and location then. :o
Twintym 04-30-2009, 05:51 PM I know we haven't reached the May 8th deadline yet but all indications are that San Diego on July 11th will win the poll. I just received an email from Daryl (Gadgetz) regarding July room rates at Loews Coronado. (here's a link: http://www.loewshotels.com/en/Hotels/San-Diego-Resort/Overview.aspx) Currently he can get us $149 per night but is trying hard to get us down around $100 per night. Something that would help sway his management is if we commit to some sort of "food event". This could be a brunch, lunch or maybe a sundae bar. If we show support for their catering department, they are more likely to show us some additional consideration on the room rates.
Please indicate what you guys are interested in and how solid your attendance plans are. We also need to give them a pretty accurate idea of how many rooms we will need. All comments are welcome. Thanks.

HOW MANY:Two confirmed with a third "maybe"
FOOD EVENT: Your comments are a little ambiguous. Are we committing to eating at their restaurant w/o a formal setup? Or a structured catered affair?
We're not picky, just curious (yellow) :)
dsowell 04-30-2009, 07:08 PM Dan, at that price I am more likely to come. I can't get the wife to give a firm yes but I would be very likely to come at 100-150 a night.
Dragonslayer 04-30-2009, 08:57 PM I had voted for Santa Cruz, but I have never been to San Diego and I love to drive long distances. I was hoping to bring Chelsea with me anyway, so pet friendly makes this desirable. I am working very hard to save enough to make this trip and at the same time make a momentous trip all the way to Oklahoma. My real Dad that I found in 1994, but never met, passed away 10 days ago and my 4 sisters and brother plus many nieces and nephews all want to meet me. I plan to take a week off from work and make a trip from far northern California to the meet and from there to Las Vegas and I-40 to Oklahoma City and then south to Hugo Oklahoma. If I can talk one of my friends into going with me, I will have company besides Chelsea along. So, count me in for San Diego.:D

That's a heart rendering story, Dragonslayer. I'm glad you have the opportunity to learn more about your newly discovered family members. I look forward to meeting you in San Diego.
BTW, I read your post about the bird dummy. I assume your objective is to replace the dummy with yourself? It wasn't specifically mentioned. Nice portrait shot of yourself.

Danny,
They are hoping we will commit to some sort of catered meal or a sundae bar. It helps them justify lowering the room rates.
Dan
Dragonslayer 04-30-2009, 09:40 PM I have known about them since I found my Dad in 1994 when I was 34. My Dad was surprised that I found him and had never told his children about me. I had called my sister right after I had called my dad, so they have also known about me for the past 15 years, we just have never met in person. I grew up with my half brothers and sister from my Mom and their Dad was Mexican and American Indian. My Dad was Dutch and German . I look like my Dad in his younger days. My sisters say that my younger brother looks a lot like me too.
Toobuku 05-01-2009, 09:38 AM I'm game for brunch!
RustyH 05-01-2009, 04:15 PM Brunch works for me too. Put me down as a definately positively maybe. I'll be in my eighth week following knee replacement at the time of this event, so I should be getting around a lot better by then.
Twintym 05-02-2009, 09:42 AM Toobuku and I have talked it over and decided the May 8th deadline is going to make it tough for everyone to get their plans in place. Therefore, San Diego is officially the destination on July 11th. We now need to get commitments from everyone that plans on being there. The hotel rate will be no more than $149 and will hopefully be even lower. The $149 rate is excellent for this resort anyway. It's right on the water and there are a ton of activities available. Coronado Island is beautiful.
I am getting information from Daryl at Loews on a Sunday brunch. As soon as I have a better idea of attendance, I can get a price for a catered brunch.
We need to put together the list of attendees quickly to get the rooms held. Please be as certain as you can before saying you will be there since I don't want to tell Daryl some inflated and unrealistic number of rooms will be needed. If you have any questions, you can PM me or just post on this thread. Thanks.
Dan
RustyH 05-02-2009, 11:09 AM Are we talking a Friday night/Saturday night or a Saturday night/Sunday night or just Sunday night. Either way will work for me so put me and my missus down for the trip and the Sunday brunch.
Twintym 05-02-2009, 12:39 PM I think the plan is to meet Saturday morning to do whatever ROC stuff we want to do and play all day. Then stay at the hotel Saturday night. Have brunch Sunday morning and then it's freestyle for the rest of the day.
This is how I pictured it but whatever the members want to do is fine. I suspect we can add on additional nights for those that want to come in Friday or stay through Monday. I will confirm with Daryl at Loews.

meanmachine19 05-02-2009, 08:32 PM Also Dan, is there a charge for parking per night? I saw that somewhere on their site.
Doug
Yes, there is. It's like $22 or $25 per night, covered (garage) parking.
Twintym 05-03-2009, 09:39 AM I have a call into Daryl to see if he can help reduce or eliminate the parking fee. I will let everyone know when he replies. Thanks.
Dan
Twintym 05-03-2009, 08:57 PM I spoke with Daryl about the Sunday brunch and our cost would be $26 per person. It could be less but we need to give them a firm number before we can know for sure. As for the parking fee, that may be discounted as well. What we have to do is give them a realistic number of rooms and brunch attendees before we can ask for any additional discounts.
So, please indicate on this thread the following information if you will be attending:
1) How many nights will you be staying?
2) How many people in your party?
3) How many people in your party will be at the brunch?
We need to do this quickly so that all the details can be finalized. Let's set a deadline of May 11th for all attendees and the final room count. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. Thanks.
Dan
MGUZMAN 05-04-2009, 12:35 AM ok so I'll be the first I just viewed the loew's web site and WOW that is way nice, I'm not worthy.......$149 is not that bad,

2 people
if at $149 1 night (sat) If lower (100 please) 2 nights (fri, sat).
and yes for the Brunch (2)
looking foward to this meet.

Twintym 05-04-2009, 10:20 AM I set up a new thread for all room and brunch commitments for this meet. You can find it here: http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28032
Even if you have already indicated your attendance on this thread, please click onto the link above and answer the poll questions on the new thread. If anyone has any questions, please let me know. Thanks.
