Now that's the beautiful part of NJ most people never get to see.. If I had a lot of money, I'd live around there for sure...

My family would take day trips to the lake when I was small back around 1955, the place was beautiful then. My wife and I bought our first house in Landing back about 30 years ago, at that time the lake was so polluted that the life span on the fish that were stocked was about 2 weeks. It sounds like they might have cleaned it up quite a bit.

Every winter they drain the shallow sections to clean and kill the weeds.

Nice catch HondaFan, I'm not too far from you near Giants Stadium. I quit freshwater fishing some time ago, but always thought about taking it up again... I used to work at Greenwood Lake about 10 years ago.

Yeah, I'm like a mile and half from the main park entrance, Spartan, I have been looking for your ridge but have never seen it. Is there anyone else in the area.

That other Sparta fellow is me! I am now in NC, but I will be back next week for a business trip. I plan on stopping by the old neighborhood to check out the sights!

;)

Hi Mike, how's Sparta treating you?

yeah, I have noticed a lot more RLs since I bought mine but I dont' know if that's just because I am "looking" for them now. Besides going home and being on the border of sussex county I dont' think I am ever actually there. Will keep looking though.

Yeah; I live off of Sparta-Stanhope road adjacent to the Hudson Guild Farm Shooting Property. My couple acres attaches to 3000 acres of undeveloped standing hardwoods. Best thing that ever happened to me was Kelloge buying all the land on the whole Hopatcong Ridge all the way up to Tomahawk Lake and then buying the parcels between Amity, Lake Lackawanna and the Stanhope Blinker and converting it into a private Hunting and Sporting Clays club. Stopped the developers from tearing it up. Plus I get to pick off the pheasants walking up my driveway for some nice saute's pheasant breasts. When we were first married, we lived in a boat house in Mt. Alington behind Lee's Park for 2 years on McGregor Ave. I'll never forget the NW Wind rattling the windows in February coming off that lake. Those were days.. young and dumb; now old and dummer.

Spartan, what kind of quad you ride and where do you ride at around here? I have to take mine all the way out past you to PA and ride Lost Trails ATV Park in Tannersville.

Hey Spart:

FWIW: I see guys riding on the Power Line on the west side of Sparta Stanhope road between the High School and the blinker light before Hudson Guild farm. They brush cut the power line this winter so it's wide open. They also park and ride on the east side of Sparta Stanhope road across from the library but i don't know if that's private, since it is POSTED for no hunting. I think there is an old sinder rail road bed that runs through there. You would have to scout it. You can't get in behind or across from my property. They'd hang you in there. That's a 50 grand annual membership club and it is patrolled.

The other place i see them riding is behind the Shell Station on Rte 15, North bound lane just past the Pathmark and Jefferson Diner plaza. There is a dirt road going in there and I see kids on dirt bikes and 4 wheelers coming out of there all the time. That use to be a hunt club lease but I don't know what the status is there now.

Haha, I have made high speed runs through Hudson-gills... you know they're out there watching... and you go very, very fast. I have also run the Lackawanna Cutoff which runs from Sparta to the PA border. That is one hell of a ride.
