Don't really want to delete it but we could disable it for new posts.

We probably won't be doing the Ridge of the Month based on our past experience with it.

The "RL of the Month" is a great idea, but it sure gets lost in all the other posts. Without constant updates, it never appears on "Today's Posts", so folks tend to forget about it. Without some type of monthly reminder, the idea will never get any attention. If it were to show up at the beginning of each month, I'm sure it would get lots of votes and lots of attention. If a monthly reminder isn't in the works, we should probably drop it. BUT...my vote would be to continue it...WITH a monthly reminder.

I think its a good thread when managed properly. It keeps the new people with new trucks active, and nice to see the different mods/colors etc.

Could a reminder put at the top of the start up page, under the ROC logo or to the far right.

For those of you not around when we started this... here's why it ended:

We'd ask for members to submit pics of their trucks after they won. Either we could not get responses or we'd get camera phone shots with a dumpster in the background or some "feature shot" that really could not be used. Voting for a truck is not the big deal. It's the administrative time and hassle with putting up the monthly member. Sometimes we'd post, for example, the January ROTM in March because we'd still be waiting on the member to respond.

If someone wants to volunteer to head this up again and truly commit to it...maybe it could be reinstated.

T, I really support this thread, however I know it will take a special member who would commit to this to keep it going. You have so much going on to keep this site up so I understand how you feel about it. I hope someone will step up and take this on.

Though I voted to delete the thread I wouldn't say it's garbage. It was a great idea that didn't work as planed. Nothing has really changed here so I doubt that trying to get this going again would work. It was a good effort T-mac.

If the thread was put under it's own heading, that would keep it in everyone's sight. Might make it easier to get responses. :o

You know if it's too hard to maintain monthly - it would be cool to see a seasonal update "RL of Summer 09" and take a couple photos that show it in a summery type of environment.

For example. A black ridge playing in a mud puddle with the trees blaze orange would be great for fall. Conquering a mountain of snow for the winter, on the beach in Hatteras for the summer.. I think you get the picture. Anyhow, that's just my $.02 I think it would put a little more action into this forum segment.

that's a great idea having a theme going on, that way pics get creative and new one are submitted instead of the same pic being submitted each time. if there is enough interest it can be on a monthly basis with the theme being for an event that month...christmas, independence, memorial etc.

I like these ideas! That way it's not a hassle to do every month and it makes the member have to come up with some creative photos for submission.

Also...
Instead of having the pics posted over a period of time and the thread getting lost or bored, pics should be sent to the mod or someone in charge by a certain date to be accepted, then that person post the pics and then let voting begin and end within a week.

Start submitting?

I guess it's like anything else....wonderful idea, but nobody to actually do it. We all have some great things we'd like to see if this thread were continued, but the moderators have limited time, just like we all do. If someone wants to take it on as a full-time project, PLEASE let it continue. But if nobody wants to manage it for months on end, let's just let it die a natural death.

Ill do the RL of the month. I helped head up some colorados of the month on my colorado forum. I can keep it going and have fair guidelines and basis to make it successful and make everyone happy. If any moderator is interested in having me head this up please pm me or email me at dusty_clouse@hotmail.com and I will gladly get this going for our members and staff. Thank you and let me know. I am on this site atleast 30 times a day everyday through my laptop and blackberry, so keeping track of the votes, winners, and bumping it to the top wont be an issue. Its the least I can do to contribute to the forum and members who have contributed so much to me and keeping this forum alive and well.

I have a fail safe month to month system. If its a holiday thing people will lose interest and feel that they are being treated unfair by not getting picked. My system will be a vote from the members that decide the month to month winner. If this is gonna happen I will start a new thread laying out the guidelines and start taking admissions around the middle of December to decide January 2010 RL of the month. I wish i could take it upon myself to do it, but dont want to step on any toes. If i dont hear anything in a week or so ill start pming moderators and admins. Let me know all your opinions as to whether im wasting my time or if i have willing participants! I will organize and manage this all on my own if i can get the permission and will let you all know what your roles are in all this. Thanks, Dusty

yeah I have done it on couple forums not just car/truck ones, it can get interesting which is funny that it don't happen here or was a bust....

Hopefully we can catch the attention of a mod/admin and give it a shoot. :D

I'd say that if someone or a small group of individuals wants to manage this, meaning that users submit pics IAW with a set of guidelines by a set time, then this could be something interesting.

Saying that, it may be a time consuming effort where it may be better to have a forum for RL pics to be posted, with some guidelines/restrictions for posting pics.

This just sounds like a lot of work for volunteers.

I already have a game plan and guidelines to run this so that's already a done deal. If anyone wants to help me out then I will let everyone know what happens if I hear from a mod or admin. I can run it myself and contribute atleast 10 hours a day to this forum via my laptop and blackberry. At most I have been off line for an hour today or most anyday. I want to do this for my fellow ROC members because its a fun competitive way to enjoy this forum and owners trucks even more than how we do now. Thanks for your concern but its not an issue on my part, its just the permission from the admin/mods

TTT for a Mod or Admin to approve Dusty :)Dusty who?

nothing finalized, so don't quote me, but I suspect a truck of the month contest will be about a truck, not a person. Traditionally on forums, car/truck of the month contests have been about the vehicle package/presentation.

I am Dusty the one who will get this started back up again if allowed since I know its a lot of work and you guys have your hands full. And yes it would be a truck/presentation contest put up to a vote after thinned down to 3-5 trucks and what the people decide is who get the RL of the month title. And if you wanted to use the RLs for a calender then I think that would be a cool idea too. Just let me know and ill gladly take this over. Thanks Keith
