FEMALE

Good question. Even I, a "too the core feminist," jump to the conclusion that a poster is probably a male unless they have a genuinely girly name (like you) or a testosterone oozing name (or manner) that confirms my assumption.

Especially on a truck forum, it's far too easy to go with the default that we've all been taught: everything is male unless proven female. Admit it. We all do it. From snakes to astronauts, we are all lazy and will generalize with male pronouns, calling both sexes "he" unless it's obvious as it is with lions or some bird species. English does not provide us with compact words to denote both. "She or he" is a clunky expression. People resist using "they or them" to referring to an individual.

I went for a gender neutral name when I chose mine. It leans toward male because of the connection between men and their trucks. . . Maybe it wasn't so gender neutral after all.

I've tried to make a mental note when other posters with gender neutral contributors reveal themselves as female. We women need to know how many of us are out there. We need to remind everyone that you might be addressing a woman.

It is still your right to remain a mystery if you want to use the internet to mask gender. There are also people out there for whom that question falls somewhere in the grey area in between. Don't feel pressured to answer if you don't want to do so.

If you want more interesting reading about ROC members, go to the "What do you do" thread:

http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2712&page=12

LadyRidge, I think I hijacked your thread. You asked a simple question. I see it as a deep issue that impacts all of our lives in every aspect, everyday. I'm done.

This is the only forum that I've ever used such a feminine screename, for exactly the reason Truckin' mentions. It's not that being female and owning a truck is odd, but for some reason the vast majority of posters to forums like this are male.

Woman. Sadly, I don't know a lot of women who are "into" their cars or trucks, at least not to the extent that they'd admit being part of a forum like this. I've known a lot of men who are "car geeks" (I use that term with affection, of course) through my husband, but no women!

I've talked with more men who's wives love the ridgeline and want to buy one for them. Me, my wife likes the ridgeline, but not enough to grab my keys from me on a regular basis. Admittedly, this truck does not ooze testosterone like my dodge diesel did. this is a more refined vehicle.

I'd have to agree but I give my better half some credit on the issue of buying the Ridgeline. I was initially shopping for an SUV. She's the one that said: why don't you look at this new truck from Honda? The rest is history. I've bought a lot of cars over the years (admittedly, with too much frequency). I can honestly say that my wife has accepted the Ridgeline more than any other car I've bought during our 21 year marriage. She loves the versatility, roominess, ride and creature comforts. She loves to use the trays above the glove compartment when she brings her sewing stuff with her on long trips (of course, I'm always cleaning up her thread pieces after these mobile sewing trips :) )

This is truly a vehicle that appeals to both sexes.

Female.

I am definitely a woman, but have always had more male friends than female friends. There are times when I think I should have been a male. I chose a male dominated profession and now drive a truck.

I can talk circles around many men in regards to autos, computers, etc. But definitely like being a woman! :D

Male and my wife tells me I spend too much time on the forum. But she definitely was the one who convinced me to go with the Ridgeline over any of the other options. I was shopping on price and was going to probably go with a Colorado even though I really liked the Ridgeline much better. If you take my trip to Florida off the odometer, I have put a total of 1200 miles on my truck since the third week of June, so really I was only buying a truck for raw utility around my house so a Colorado could have worked, but it wouldn't have been as nice.

Male. I must admit I was a little surprised by some the non-gender specific names that were of the opposite sex. I think I just assumed that if the name was not identifiable as feminine, then it must be a man. Obviously a erroneous assumption based on my younger days when very few females were car or truck enthusiasts to the extent they are today.
The RL is the first truck I have owned that my DW really enjoys riding in and she doesn't mind driving it either when she manages to pry me from behind the wheel.

Male 22 Ky and I love Honda.

was going to get a ridgeline in april but waited to see the new pilot now it a hard pick for me as I love everything honda makes but more to the ridgeline now that I see the new custome cover.

And please not crazy stuff about that Im too young. I get way to much on the accord forum as every person on there is a wanabe racer car driver and known nothing about a honda engine and just want a angry bumble bee car while mine is all stock. The way I got it from honda dealer ship. I may be young but dont do all the same thing young people do.

Oh and did I mention I love Honda.

You know, the best thing about this forum, IMO, is that no one take umbrage about age, gender, ability, etc. Ok, so COLOR (of vehicle) seems to be of issue, but that's just FUN!

As long as you own (or desire, or want info about) a Ridgeline, then anyone is welcome!

We bought our RL as a family vehicle. Still have three kids :) ;) :o at home out of five. So, my wife will most likely drive the RL more than I will. She actually wanted to purchase the RL as much as I did so I guess everyone is happy. Did not want another minivan. Still drive my little 4 cyl. Cavalier back and forth to work. Isn't that a cryin' shame. Once it dies I may be lookin' for Civic Hybrid, who knows. Love the RL, best truck I have ever purchased.

Thank Ridgeln. I like this site and everyone is more mature on this site and that is how I like it. Now for the color. I may need help. my accord is silver and I dont want to get another one in that color. Right now Im looking at either Black or Red. I wish honda comes out with another blue and I want a darker blue.

And, even with the 4-banger the Colorado was only averaging about 22 MPG so far my Ridge has been averaging 19-20 MPG (I'll take all this comfort over 2 MPG anyday!!! :D :D )

Too cute Tedridge! I like it when my hubby uses "product" in his hair, he looks better. I have him up to using it during the work week, the weekend usage is still a work in progress. Of course, if I didn't have something to be training him on I would be frustrated! :p

Oh you know it, but doesn't the Colorado have a 5-banger (just to be different)? The Colorado was actually a really nice utility truck but when we really considered it, we knew we would be using it throughout the winter most likely since the car isn't good in snow, we knew we would use it for some longer trips if we went camping and such, and if we were going to put out a load of cash it should be on something we would really enjoy.

I will still say that the Colorado would make a great little utility truck to have around just when you need to make a trip to the Home Depot or to the lawn/garden center or whatever, it wasn't as comfortable, it wasn't as fancy, and it certainly wasn't as powerful, but it would get the job done. But even saying all that, it was no Ridgeline.

"Product" - in one's hair? Bald is the way to go - cleaner through the airstream, only requires a squeegee to dry it after the morning shower, no need for "Head & Shoulders" shampoo (ok, so maybe I need the shoulders part). One follically challenged buddy claimed his hair-free pate was a "solar panel for a sex machine." Ubersexual? Metrosexual? Na - pure blooded mongrel USA Male. And darn proud of it. Who needs the media labeling what I should or should not be? Cigars? Hate 'em. Good wine? As long as my wife likes it, it is good wine (she does have a more developed pallet for wines). And you know my stance on "product."

How did I find the ROC? I have no clue. But I'm glad I did!

Female, 46, landscaper/gardener, permaculturist...
When I was 24 I owned a '63 VW, after that, two toyota trucks, and one ford ranger, none newer than '88. Loved them all.
When I got married two years ago, my husband began buggin' me about getting a new truck. I resisted mightily, new trucks=waste of money (and I loved my old trucks...) all manuals, fun to drive, workhorses...
I relented and was considering a Tundra, used. Then, I read Consumer reports, and started looking at the Ridgeline. Thought it was pretty ugly at first...
Did bundles of research, took a test drive, and that was it.
Nothing would do but that I get a white RTL Ridgeline.
I love it.
Sure do miss driving a stick, tho...

WOW! I hadn't seen this thread before. But no surprise, it's basically 2 years old. I'm male....62. Born and raised in the South (Alabama), and with that comes all the stereotypes about almost everything. But somewhere along the way, IF you wake up, you start to realize that the best approach to life is to just look at people as people. And to me, people tend to fall into two different categories...those I'd really like to spend some time with, and those I wouldn't. Male, female, black, white, rich, poor...it all doesn't matter. I just look for good people who are not self-centered and who genuinely care about other people. All the background stuff doesn't mean a crap. And if I attended a ROC event where all kinds of Ridgeline owners showed up, I'd always search for those folks who were genuinely good people and interesting to talk with. I couldn't give a crap if you're male, female, or something in between. And just for the record, I LOVE to see anyone who's a car nut. Sex doesn't matter. Well, unless you're talking about SEX, and I love the old saying, "Sex is like air, it doesn't matter unless you're not getting any."

I see the Ridgeline as male, mainly because of it's masculine lines and the ability to take a lot of ****e from others. :D

NOW, my new CR-V is definitely a "female" with it's gracious curves and gentle BMW esque body lines.

Between the two though, I prefer the more masculine look of the Ridgeline and the more feminine curves and handling of the CR-V. Each has it's weaknesses, though.

Now, I'm a 28 year old male. :D

My gender neutral screen name has long been my handle for online stuff. I am female/25, and I chose that name because at the time I chose it back 10 years ago I was driving a 1990 Honda Accord EX. I just parted with my baby when I got my RL. I've been glad to have a gender neutral name because sometimes on less sophisticated forums and web sites in general (or when I give out my email to people) I don't want to be labeled or for anyone to know that I'm a female since some people take that to mean "female and desperately seeking male" while that may have been the case from time to time in the past, I have been happily unavailable for some time now. :-) This forum is by far my favorite because everyone is friendly and no one has said anything disparaging about my being a chick...everyone actually sounded really happy to have another lady on the site. So...thanks for being so cool you all. I don't post all the time but I'm always reading.

That's one of the best things about the ROC, for the most part everyone is nice, helpful, friendly, and, for the most part;), behaves in a intelligent manner! We like EVERYBODY, after all we all share a love for the same thing, our Ridgeline's!

Here in the Denver area, I have seen quite a few female drivers of RL's. Usually they are flying by me on the highway. That makes me think their husbands or boyfriends were the real owners of those RL's and had to pay for the gas at those high speeds;) .

Okay, cut me some slack I was just kidding about the real owners of those speeding trucks.
