All-Cal Meet - San Diego July 11th

***Please note that the dates in the poll should read July 10th & 11th, not May.***

The 2009 All-California meet will be held in San Diego on July 11th. We will be staying at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort on Coronado Island. Here is a link to this awesome hotel: http://www.loewshotels.com/en/Hotels/San-Diego-Resort/Overview.aspx. The place is right on the water and the grounds are beautiful. Since our good friend Gadgetz (Daryl) works there, we are getting exceptional rates. Here is a breakdown:

Rooms - no more than $149.00 per night (maybe less depending on number of rooms reserved)

Parking - $22.00 per day (may be substantially discounted, again based on number of rooms reserved)

Sunday Brunch - $26.00 per person (may be substantially discounted, again based on number of rooms reserved)

The reason the rates are not set in stone is that Daryl needs to present the whole package to the general manager. Once he knows how many of us are actually coming, he can discuss everything with his GM. Even if we get no further discounts, this is already a great deal for this beautiful resort.

We have set a deadline of Monday May 11th for all hotel commitments to the meet. After that date, rooms are on your own and no rates can be guaranteed.

Please be as certain as you can before indicating you will need a room as an accurate forecast is extremely important. Daryl is going out on a limb for us, so please be considerate of that. If anyone has any questions, you can post here or PM me. Thanks everyone.

My wife and I really want to come to this meet but (always a but!) this will be about 2 weeks after I'm discharged from the hospital. I'm getting a surgical procedure which will reverse the Ileostomy surgery performed this past February. Let's just say that I won't want to venture to far from a bathroom for awhile. We still want to come to the meet but I just have no way of knowing how much time I will be able to spend with everyone. Worse case, she will hang out on the beach all day and I will be in the room watching the food channel or something. So I will vote that both of us will be in San Diego Friday and Saturday and will brunch on Sunday. But it's possible we would have to cancel. I'll know more at the end of this month.

You can cancel without charge 48 hours before the arrival date. We also provide shuttle service (golf cart) to the beach and there are very new and clean restroom facilities at the beach.

Well, timeshare ain't quite working like I thought it would ( :o ) so I'll have to see what the Great Gadgetz comes up with....our only option is our Disney timeshare (vs. exchange, which is non-existent) but puts us almost 2 hours north. That would make for a short day for us on Saturday :rolleyes:

Judy and I will be attending Friday and Saturday and are requesting a single bed.:) We will be attending the Sunday brunch.

Dan, we would need 2 beds....unfortunately I cannot commit to the Sunday Brunch at this time. We might have other plans for Sunday, but have not ruled it out 100%....

IMPORTANT NOTE: Daryl has really gone above and beyond for us. It's important that we don't have any cancellations since the pricing is all based on the total number of rooms and guests we have promised them. Our group will be a reflection on Daryl since he fought hard for this deal for us, so let's all be considerate of his efforts.

Please note that if any additional ROC or EOC members want to attend just for the day of the meet, that's fine. We will be working out actual meet plans shortly. My plans have slightly changed but I should be there for at least part of the meet on Saturday. Getting other time off from work has been tricky so I've got to make the most of the time already approved for that week to do other things with the family.....

Are we planning on having a fire pit on the beach at all? Like at night Sat night maybe?? If so I have a good amount of wood that I can bring to burn up. Otherwise it goes in the green can for pick up. It is dry too. Let me know. Oh & if we do does anyone know the size of the pits that are on the beach?? If they do let me know & I will cut the wood to fit in the pit. Jason

We are now committed to all the rooms we have asked for and any cancellations will reflect badly on Daryl. Therefore, I ask that everyone who reserved a room to please not cancel. Daryl put a lot of effort and influence into the pricing and accomodations for us and we need to honor our commitment. If anyone has any questions, please let me know.

Check-in time is 4PM. I doubt that we will all be grouped together as the resort is pretty large. We are going to get an itinerary going soon that will have more information for everyone attending, whether you are staying at the hotel or not. Stay tuned......

I saw XRIDGELINEX's LEDs earlier this month while visiting Albany. They really looked awesome. I could not believe how bright they are. I'll be anxious to see yours in San Diego.

That's why I asked about parking. I'm not staying at the resort, and don't know if I am alone or if others are travelling for the day. Non-guests may not be entitled to the same ammenities as the guests :rolleyes:

There are shops at the Hotel Del for men, women, and kids and of course parking you get a break if you have a receipt of purchase (validate). I'm working with Daryl now to decide the best meeting place for Saturday morning. The loose plan is to meet around 9:00 AM at a park nearby and hang out through lunch time. It makes no sense for those attending, that are not staying at the resort, to pay the $20+ parking fee so that's why an alternate location will work better. For those staying at the resort, we will probably head over there some time around 4:00 PM (check in time). After check in, we can take a swim in the pool or whatever activity appeals to you. Later we will meet up on Silver Strand Beach, across from the resort, for a bonfire. We will also look at doing a group dinner in the area for those that are interested. Most of us staying at the resort (plus a couple local members) will have brunch together Sunday morning as planned. I will post up more information as I have it. Thanks.

A few weeks ago the fire pit rings were taken away...not sure if they're back for the 4th of July. It's been so busy around here I haven't had a chance to get over to the beach. There are bathrooms, showers (COLD water), a few picnic tables.

I'm working with Daryl now to decide the best meeting place for Saturday morning. The loose plan is to meet around 9:00 AM at a park nearby and hang out through lunch time. Oh yea! As soon as I got back from Sedona, it went into the shop and got fixed. My HID fogs will be in soon and I went LED for all my interior and exterior light blubs.

I like the Midway tour! I would like to do the tour but we all have different plans. I may come down early Friday morning and do the tour then already be in San Diego for check in on the 11th. Have dinner with those who came in on Friday, hang with the group on Saturday, Do brunch on Sunday then drive the coastline home afterwards.

Caryn and I are planning on driving out early Saturday morning, arriving between noon and 2:00 p.m., being available for dinner Saturday and brunch Sunday morning.

Just a thought here.... so maybe we can get a list going of who is going to be there Friday night so those of us who are coming in early Sat can meet up with them. I unfortunately work graveyard & will be getting off around 3 am & will drive down then.... A LOT LESS TRAFFIC TOO!! We'll be getting into Anaheim late Friday afternoon. I'll drive down Sat. morning and should be there between 9 & 10, depending what time we are meeting, where, traffic, etc. Not sure if wife and kids are driving down with me to SD - it will depend on what the itinerary is (or if there is none). It will be hard pulling them away from Disney for the day :eek: even though we will be there a week.

There's so much to 'do' in SD and the aircraft carrier is one of several suggestions. If hanging out by the beach, or the park is preferred by the gang, that's fine too. I just want to know if we are doing anything special or just meeting at the park, so I can plan the rest of my day accordingly while down in SD.

Maybe I missed something - still reading through Thread trying to find out which park or where to meet on arrival Saturday.

I have been wanting to do the Midway Aircraft Carrier tour ever since I read about it a few years ago and may just go do that Saturday morning.
I'm wondering if anyone else is planning on doing that tour?

Someone mention that the parking is limited at the pier for the tours and was checking on parking passes or discounts if I remember correctly.

I found this parking info from another helpfull post that gives an address for those with a GPS and a map for those who don't.

There are more than 300 spaces alongside Midway on Navy Pier (owned and operated by the Port of San Diego) for vehicles only. Parking rates are:

$5 up to 1 hour
$7 for up to 4 hours
$10 for up to 10 hours
$12 for up to 12 hours

See the first google map below to identify where Tidelands Park (Mullinix Drive at Glorietta Blvd, Coronado, CA) is situated on Coronado Island.


Midway (910 N. Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA) parking is limited (see the second google map below). BTW, I'm interested in the tour and will drive down on Saturday morning. Maybe we can hook up.

I thought I was just responsible for securing the hotel rooms. Because of my heavy, heavy, HEAVY work load, I can't really help too much (SORRY). But if EVERYBODY can tell me by tomorrow who wants to go to the Midway, I will ask my friend if he can extend any discounts. PLEASE trust me on the parking I deal with that area every day. Parking is tight because of the Cruise Ship terminal, eating places, general visitors etc...Tied into the parking figure a few disabled and special permit spots. This past weekend a 12-15k person teachers conference was visiting the area and my friends walked there from their hotel because of parking issues.

So in a nut shell...tell me what information you need and I will TRY to help everyone out.

OK count me in on the Sat Midaway tour if thats when everyone wants to do it. In post #138 I explained that I will be napping at the Tidelands park in my truck due to my early drive down time. You can actually come to the resort and leave your bags with the bell staff. I MAYBE (and that's a VERY BIG maybe) to get some early check in rooms. That is solely based on when the previous guest checks out.

Saturday Morning Meet Location!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I apologize for the lack of information. If anyone living in San Diego can help narrow down an exact meet point for us in advance, it would be greatly appreciated. Since I have never been to this park before, I cannot give an exact location within the parking lot to meet. I will arrive around 9:00 AM. I thought I was just responsible for securing the hotel rooms. Because of my heavy, heavy, HEAVY work load, I can't really help too much (SORRY). But if EVERYBODY can tell me by tomorrow who wants to go to the Midway, I will ask my friend if he can extend any discounts. PLEASE trust me on the parking I deal with that area every day. Parking is tight because of the Cruise Ship terminal, eating places, general visitors etc...Tied into the parking figure a few disabled and special permit spots. This past weekend a 12-15k person teachers conference was visiting the area and my friends walked there from their hotel because of parking issues.

So in a nut shell...tell me what information you need and I will TRY to help everyone out.

Maybe someone who is going to be down there Friday evening could look around for us at the park & take some notes. If they do they can call me anytime because, I will be awake at work & can leave some info on the Forum before I leave work which will be about 3 am & drive straight down there. This way everyone driving down Sat morning can check the forum before they leave.

I think the best place to park to see the Midway would be at Seaport Village. (http://www.seaportvillage.com/directions.php) It took me 6 minutes to walk from the parking area (far North/West parking lot) to the Midway this morning. There is plenty of parking and the first 2 hours are free with a validation that can obtained at any store or restaurants, after that it's $3 per hour. 4: Your Sunday Brunch will be out doors (private terrace) with a water fountain and views of the Marina and Bay. I hand picked our brunch server (his name is Omar and he is fantastic).

6: Friday we have a pool side marshmallow roast at the pool

I forgot to mention a very important thing. Coronado has a really good police department, but they are pretty strict when it comes to traffic laws. The speed limit on the bridge is 50 mph, as soon as you get off the bridge it drops down to 25 mph The speed limit through town is [COLOR="Red"]30 mph and then switches to 45 mph near Hotel del Coronado, then 65 mph on the "strand" towards the Loews Hotel. There are a number of streets on certain days/times you can't turn on so use caution. If you don't want to drive over a long/tall bridge you can go through Imperial Beach (I-5 South to Palm Avenue), Turn West (right) on Palm follow all the way down to the Strand...go North approximately 1.5 to 2 miles. The hotel is on the right 4000 Loews Coronado Bay Road...pull a ticket from the ticket booth. There is plenty of parking in the underground garage.

I finally got the WiFi to work. I am getting sleepy now so I won't be here long. I have a great room (5213) wish Nancy was here to share it. Good view of the bay. Got a tour with Daryl once I got here. I had to run some errands this morning so I did not get here until after 4:00. Nice drive down however. See you all in the AM.

It's 11:21 pm Friday night & I am leaving work early..... maybe about 1:30 am. A lttle too early to drive down... I don't want to end up in the back of the Rangers patrol vehicle HAHAHHAA....

4:30 AM AZ Time and we're getting ready to hit the road. Going to take it easy so my new knee (Say that five times fast out loud and people will stare) won't be killing me by the time we get there. Checking online for a nearby car wash to get cleaned up before we arrive. See you all later today.

Even if we did not get any consideration, it was great spending the time at Loew's. As I told you, my next trips to San Diego, Loew's will be my first consideration from now on! When Nancy hit's Cali for any extended time, I will be giving you a call! It was good meeting the people who work for and with you. It was nice seeing Lydia again, it has been a long time. Thank you for all you have done.

Thank you to Dan for taking the ball and running with this All Cal ROC Meet and Great for 2009. It was nice to come down and be with friends and relax a bit. We may have to have next years SoCal Meet and Greet at Loew's. To be discussed later.

What a first class operation!

Eeverything went seamlessly and I know it took a lot of work, effort and dedication to make this meet so enjoyable.

To Dan and Daryl, THANKS so much for your tireless effort, we had a great time.

Daryl had to be the busiest guy at the hotel to pull this off.
Thanks to Dan we even got free shuttle service from the front of the hotel lobby to our bonfire get together and back to the hotel!

Thanks Pam for the work you did on the meet T shirts, I love mine.

The Sunday morning buffet was excellent and the company even better.
And at a 50% discount!
The only problem was I ate too much. ;)

Guy's I had a Good Time is San Diego the Kids had a Blast, Breakfast was good...I came back to Tidelands and Kick it with SanDiegoTaylor, Missbest and a fellow CRV, DavidlarsonCRV, and later went to Aerospace Musuem with my kids, drove back to Corondo for some afternoon Snack...Thanks again ROC for the wonderful time..
