Anything going on in Myrtle Beach?JamesD 05-04-2009, 10:48 AM I'll be visiting Myrtle Beach June 3-7. Any suggestions on what to get into? Nimbusgray 05-04-2009, 05:07 PM I vote for "getting into" your Ridgeline and heading for Charleston. I believe that there is more variety here. You may enjoy this band at the House of Blues. http://www.houseofblues.com/tickets/eventdetail.php?eventid=56527 The Alabama Theater is a good place. http://www.alabama-theatre.com/06/calendar/BareFootLandingConcerts.php Broadway at the beach is nice. http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/ I love the aquarium http://www.ripleysaquarium.com/ Some good eats. http://www.rossismyrtlebeach.com/ http://www.umbertos.com/ Nite life for all ages (over 21) http://www.2001nightclub.com/jos/index.php?option=com_events&task=view_day&year=2009&month=06&day=06&itemid=1 Have fun, I always do:) Tcape 05-04-2009, 07:40 PM I live about an hour from Myrtle Beach, and I can assure you there's lots to do in that area. But BEWARE...it's a VERY touristy town. Lots of traffic, and very busy this time of year. (But much worse in the summer.) If you like touristy places with lots of things tourists like to do, you'll love MB. Links have already been posted on some of the favorite spots. I'd also recommend the "Legends" concert. Always fun to see. They have real, live performers singing some of the old hits, and the performers look incredibly like the actual stars. Visit Broadway At The Beach for a nice shopping mall. IMAX theatre and regular theatre there, too. Hope you have a grea trip! But don't say I didn't warn you about the traffic! Charleston is my favorite place in the world, but my folks are footing the bill this trip so they get to pick the place. JamesD 05-05-2009, 12:50 PM But BEWARE...it's a VERY touristy town. Lots of traffic, and very busy this time of year. (But much worse in the summer.) But don't say I didn't warn you about the traffic! I've been to Myrtle during Bikeweek, so I have an idea of how bad traffic can get. But your right I'm not looking forward to that part of the trip. bigwilliestyle 05-05-2009, 07:13 PM Ah, I'm curious too. Looking to rent a beach house down there in September. There's so many options don't know where to start looking. MDVE39 05-05-2009, 07:24 PM I'll be there from May 29th to June 2nd. We're visiting our daughter who is in school there. First big roadtrip for the new RL. All of the places previously suggested are good ideas and worth a visit. There are some good restaurants at Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing. Have a great trip! PalmettoRidgey 05-31-2009, 01:09 PM I second, third, fourth what everyone else has said about Myrtle and North Myrtle. I'll throw in a couple of pennies of my own here. If you want to avoid traffic, here are a couple of tips: 1) Don't take Ocean Blvd. or Kings Hwy. ANYWHERE. Drive on up to the real 17 (not Business 17 which is Kings Hwy) and drive that, then exit off near where you want to go if you're driving between MB and NMB/Barefoot Landing. 2) To skip out on the MB/NMB traffic at least one day, do your eating in Murrells Inlet. There are lots of good seafood places (and an Outback if you want to eat chain food) out there too, as well as a small mall and your typical go-kart/putt putt places if you have kids to appease. 3) Common sense, but stay near what you will spend the most time doing. If you're going to shop, stay out at Broadway. If you're going to golf, stay in South Myrtle (although there is a course or two halfway between NMB and MB). If you want the ocean, stay on Ocean Blvd. If you are JUST there for the ocean, you can get that at Atlantic Beach and avoid downtown period (except for when you want to go in). There are also two outlet malls just outside of Myrtle Beach, in opposite directions ... IMO the ones on 501 out near Conway has more variety. Tcape 05-31-2009, 08:32 PM Ah, I'm curious too. Looking to rent a beach house down there in September. There's so many options don't know where to start looking. bigwilliestyle, if you're considering renting a beach house in September, consider Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, and Sunset Beach. They're MUCH less commercialized than Myrtle Beach. They're much more family oriented....IF that's what you want. And they're only a few minutes from Myrtle Beach if you want to go there for entertainment. Joe Domingos 06-06-2009, 01:53 PM Hey Y'all First of all I want to get off on the right foot.
