2006 rtl and xm radio

I recently purchased a 2006 RTL without roof or nav. The radio has the xm radio trademark but When I try the band to see if it is wired, nothing comes up. I assume that means I need to add the XM tuner and antennae. Is this a big deal? I'm not all that handy. Anyone know how much Honda would charge?

Thanks

You are correct that you need to install the XM radio module and the XM antenna Try googling H and A's website. I believe they have the installation instructions.

I went thru this awhile back. On eBay there is a power seller called integration_solutions that sells an aftermarket receiver that plugs into the back of the factory radio. It was by far the easiest install that I have ever done and sounded much better than the "roady" that I had purchased from XM. The hardest part of the routine was removing the dashboard front, and for that they have instructions available. Make sure you have your radio code before you start this process because that whole radio unit will have to be totally removed and unplugged.

As for the radio antenna install. You will be running about 6 feet of line behind the dash out and up the door jam and along the window rubber seal to the roof, where is is recommended you place the magnetic antenna. I have seen a few installs where the magnetic end sits on the dashboard up against the windshield. I have heard that may affect reception, but cannot say if that is the case.

Just curious. I just purchased a 2006 RTL w/out nav as well but mine has an XM button on it and all I had to do was activate it. I wonder why the difference.

When you pressed the xm band button, did you get anything? I get nothing in the window. I had read that if you're wired, you get the display with at least a 0 or something.

The 2006 RTL was available with or without a sunroof. The factory installed XM only came in the RTL with sunroof. Starting in 2007, all RTL's come with a sunroof and XM.

In the first post Tom said he bought a 2006 RTL without a sunroof.

No sunroof = No factory installed XM.

It would be the same XM add on kit. Below is a link for another dealer that sells parts and accessories online. They list the same kit for all 06-09 except RTL with Moonroof or Navi. Of course all Navi models have the roof.
