Retrax tailgate gasket...how to re-stick it

The rubber tailgate gasket for my Retrax cover is coming un-stuck. Any ideas on the best way to re-stick it?? I've tried two-sided tape, and it works OK, but just wondering if there's a better way. Dirt gets down in the gasket, and the least pull on the gasket causes it to come loose. Gotta get that thing stuck back on there! TIA for any advice.

Tom, try using 3M automotive grade weatherstrip adhesive. This is readily available at NAPA stores and sells for about $8 for a medium-sized tube.

Make sure that both surfaces are clean and free of dirt and or debris prior to using the adhesive. Alcohol swabs work best for cleaning.

Or buy a large bottle of rubbing alcohol(cheap) and use a clean shop towel. I keep a bottle in the garage. I was out and went into bathroom. We had two there, so I restock the garage with one!;)

Dan, why do you need/use so much rubbing alcohol?;):D

I really like to make sure the surface is clean. I like working with a shop towel instead of those tiny little swabs.
I recently cleaned my steering wheel cover with rubbing alcohol. cleaned it right up, looks good as new.
I really need to finish my black emblems too. I have been procrastinating.;)

Great advice, Andy. I have some 3M weatherstrip adhesive, and I hadn't even thought about using it. That should do the trick. And cleaning it with rubbing alcohol is a great idea. I've also found that lacquer thinner is a good cleaner. I'll give all that a try, and it should work great. Thanks!

SRQRIDGE, never thought about cleaning the steering wheel cover with alcohol. Great idea. That should get all the oil off the leather. I'm betting it would be good to use a good (Lexol) leather conditioner after the cleaning so the leather doesn't dry out. Thanks for the idea.

BIGGUY, thanks for the info on Goop. I've seen this stuff for years, but never used it. Might be well worth a try.

Just wondering if Goop is any different from the "Shoe Goo" I've been using for years on my running shoes??
