garym 07-14-2009, 08:33 PM What has been the experience with either Leer or ARE camper shell? I'm considering the leer, but the guy selling it said that it has to be permanent to get a water tight seal.....says he has to apply silicone to the cab of the truck. Any thoughts/comments?
Thanks,
Gary
QCRidge 07-14-2009, 08:44 PM We have a Leer and it is not permanent.
I don't know what others experience has been, but ours is just what was expected, dry and easy to remove. It weighs in at about 150#. Our leer just required silicone filler where the roof rack rails dip, and is easily replaceable when the top is taken off. Ours does not leak a drop. It has been through car washes and Texas rain storms.:D
garym 07-14-2009, 08:53 PM Thanks....maybe I will see if i can find a different leer dealer.

Tarquinn09 08-04-2009, 10:48 PM I have a redrock colored leer cap. Was on the truck when i bought it...I took it off as i don't have much use for it. If you're interested in it let me know!!! It's just sitting in my pole barn
dce.95120 08-09-2009, 11:55 PM I am also looking for a leer top. Interested in shipping to zip-95120? if so how much for the top and shipping?
rod4848 08-10-2009, 02:50 PM there is a steel-blue leer in S.Fl.
lost lease on truck!
Jtownhay 08-12-2009, 10:29 AM I've had my Leer on for four months with no leaks. I did remove it for a day or so. No problem putting it back on either.
miken07 08-12-2009, 12:43 PM I have an ARE cap on the RL I just bought. We had a huge downpour yesterday and there's no water in the bed. Its for sale if you're looking.
cdextreme 08-16-2009, 11:23 AM On my Father's Dakota, he has a gasket made for caps that should be available anywhere. no slilicone. I believe it is a soft foam type gasket with and adhesive strip in the center. just install it and then your cap and clamp it down.

I've heard it called "topper tape" and that's what I've always used on my F150 topper. It should be available at any topper shop.

ridgelinejess 11-16-2009, 01:37 PM I have an ARE topper and LOVE it. I have removed and re installed several times, each time its still secure and weatherproof... my suggestion ARE

ARE is made by Leer so depends on what you want it to look like. Both are nice but we choose the Leer.
Are vote here. The small details did it for me.

Where I am, the Leer was a little cheaper, and I thought the side glass offered a little better sight lines.

Do you have a reference for this? I know that markets consolidate all the time, but this is the first that I have heard of Leer/ARE.
