Was coming up hwy 18 yesterday from Auburn and the ridge started jerking and the check engine light was flashing...got to the top of hwy 18 to merge to I-5 and more misfires/ jerking..I was not a happy camper since I only have 12000 miles on her. Read the codes myself and found a pending code for #3 cylinder misfire..So I take it to the dealer and the first thing the guy says is "it's probably bad gas"....bad gas my ass!! So I tell the guy I know it's a misfire on #3 and it can't be bad gas just effecting one cylinder... So i tell him please just get one of the tech's to check it out...So he tells me again "Well if it's bad gas then you will have to pay, it won't be warrenty..I'm thinking whats with this guy and the "bad gas" thing..Anyway it makes me wonder how much BS those service writers fill up customers ears with on a daily basis..

I would take it to another service department. Besides, it should not cost you any money whether is was bad gas or not.

Soul, what the SA was probably referring to was that the "bad gas" may have contaminated the orifice in the fuel injector. Sometimes, contaminants may flow past the fuel filter and lodge within the injector itself. The spray pattern then becomes erratic or incomplete. Most dealers charge a nominal fee to remove the injectors and clean them to assure a proper spray pattern and a then perform a volumetric check. :)

If he tells you it's bad gas tell him to prove it! If he can't it should be covered under warranty. If he comes to the conclusion it's bad gas it's on him and the dealership to provide proof!
