Hi all, i recently picked up a used 06 RTL w/Nav and am looking to upgrade the sound system... after searching around here on the ROC i have decided that i want to go with 4x 6022si component speakers and the ED SQ10 behind seat sub. i am going to power this all straight off the factory HU and wiring. I have a few questions though:

1. If i decide down the line that i want to aplify the component speakers and/or Sub, will those models be able to handle that?

2. if i want to do that, what is the cleanest/simplest way to amplify the signal from the stock HU to the above mentioned speakers/sub.

3. is there a kit to connect the ED SQ10 to the factory wiring? or is it the same connection? what do i do there...?

4. anything else i would need or need to know? any recommended improvements?

TIA everyone, this place is an excellent resource.

Sam,
I think that's a horrible plan. I say do it right or don't do it at all...

With all due respects to Chef, it's a fine way to go. You'll get a lot of bang for your buck. There are no harness adapters available for the Honda sub wiring, you'll have to cut the wires.

I am not a big fan of using factory speaker wiring of any kind with an amplifier. It wasn't designed to handle the power, and it often goes through funky connectors which can fail. Lots of people do it, though. My advice to you is if you are going to amplify the system, plan on running new, good quality speaker wire from the amp out to the speakers. Check my install thread and many others for pics. The search tool is your friend.

Good luck.

Sam,

What is "wrong" with my plan? I want to have a better sounding system, cheaply and easily. I want to use parts that can be upgraded at a later date if i wanted to though, it is no problem to leave myself some overhead. i think that i will be happy with the parts that i have chosen, no need to amplify. but if i am unsatisfied the option is always there for me to add new wiring and amps right?

thanks for the constructive feedback.

thanks for the input, i like the cost/benefit ratio:

~$120 for the 4 components (6022si)
~$150 for the ED box/sub (SQ10)
i have a nice system for ~$300. done.

thanks for the input on the wiring. if i am unsatisfied with these add ons, then my next step would be wiring+amps. dont think i will be doing that anytime soon though. those parts will be fine to amplify though right? i am not going to overpower them?

I guess you want to keep the factory navi. So..
I would either use a high level input amp (one that takes speaker level inputs), or I would get a cleensweep or RF 360 with a nice amp (audison).
Next I would get some higher powered speakers. Think 100's of watts. I like obviously JL's, diamond, Hertz, eclipse.
The factory system sounds pretty good. If you add some infinitys that are a little better your system will just be pretty good still. If you want it to sound great, then buy the more expensive higher powered stuff. It's all about headroom.

Within reason, yes. The first thing you are going to find out is that the sub will be underpowered as the Infinity speakers are pretty efficient. The sub will run out of gas when you turn it up. The Infinity speakers should be able to handle 50W/ch with no problem, and the eD sub a couple hundred. The biggest concern with the eD sub behind the seat is the cone or surround hitting the seat back or frame under power. That will limit the power more than anything. Ask one of the guys that owns one. They can tell you better than I what works best for that setup.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a similar system in my 08 RTX. I want to upgrade the 4 door speakers with the Infinity 6022si. I think the shallow mount are required but I need to dig up the posts. I plan to leave the tweeters in the dash connected and leave the sub for now. I'm not looking for just loud, but good, clean sound at lower to mid-volumes. A double DIN headunit may go on my list to Santa if I'm liking the sound.

The newest Crutchfield catalog has the 2008 Infinities on sale for $69 a pair, but the 09's are $99. Anyone have any comments on if it's worthwhile to go for the newer ones??
