Looking for a Tonneau cover

I just got my RL and want to get a folding tonneau cover for the bed. My main 2 criteria are; weather proof and easily removable. I was looking at a Bakflip G2 yesterday but, am not sure if I am ready to spend $800 on a tonneau cover. The security of a hard cover would be nice. Any suggestions?

That looks nice. They are $386 with shipping on eBay. Do the soft tonneau covers help with gas mileage?

I just installed the Torza Hard Top Triple fold. Bought from ebay for $449, $484 delivered, $300 less than other sites:

I have this cover, it's like a canvas type, hardly any water gets in the bed and it's a breeze to remove.

I see no reason to buy one of the other expensive ones, atleast for my use.

Has anyone ever used one of these covers? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA-RIDGELINE-Hard-Hat-TRI-FOLD-COVER-tonneau-tonno_W0QQitemZ150346556043QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMoto rs_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item23015a628b&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&wwparam=1250610847

Do they live up to their claims?

I have the Hard Hat Premier, which is made with a soft "convertible top" type material.
I love it! Easy installation.
If you need to use the back of the bed, you can unfasten the rear clamps (near the tailgate) and fold it towards the cab, then snap the straps to hold it in place. Removal is a breeze if you need to take it out.
I never installed the seals that come with it - but I get very little water in the bed.

Good luck with your choice!

Father in law has the hard had premier and its a great cover.

I have the Truxedo LO PR QT and its been a great cover for me as well.

I used to use his Ridgeline before I picked mine up so I've used both a lot. I dont think you will go wrong with either. Do a couple google searches or even check out YouTube for some pretty good view points on any you check out.

Maybe its because I live in California or maybe its because I carry guns or computers or cameras or other items of value I opted for a Bakflip HD. I know you said that price was and issue but a loss of stuff from your truck bed because of a soft cover that can be easily entered by a sharp knife will cost you more than the price of a good cover. I got a Dynolock for the tailgate and had a lot of peace of mind on a recent trip as a result. Just my 2 cents.

I have decided that I am going to get a Bakflip G2. I just have to pull the trigger and buy it.

I’m not impressed with my Bakflip2.The knobs that fasten the front down would not turn I had to grind them down so they would clear the drain tube spout. I was told by the owner himself the holes are drilled in the wrong place for the new style rails. I have a puncture on the side gasket that I will have to change myself if I ever get my replacement parts. He also said he would send me a check for $50 (still waiting for also) for my inconvenience after I said I should just send the thing back and by an Extang.

I've been very happy with my bakflip G2. Have had it for a few months now. There are some quality issues (see my other threads) but overall its a good piece of equipment. I didn't have to grind anything down luckily but I did have to install the d-rings myself (they sent them to me free of charge) otherwise I had one screw head break off which I will figure out how to repair some day (screw head holding in the metal bar attached to the railings)

I was looking at the back of my Ridgeline yesterday and thinking about the tonneau cover. I tried locking the doors to see if the tailgate locks and it doesn't. Is there a way to lock the tailgate? It doesn't seem like a hard cover will give you any additional security if the tailgate doesn't lock. Are there any security or mpg advantages to a hard cover over a soft cover?

I have had the BakFlip G2 for about a year and a half. I haven't had any issues whatsoever with it. When I installed it I did add a little bit of weatherstripping to a couple of areas that looked like might leak...I have been in downpours and I often use the high pressure car washes, and when checking the bed afterwards it has always been dry.

As far as the tailgate locking..Many of us have installed the Pop & Lock manual tailgate lock. Others have installed the electric lock (Dynolock) or the homemade one that ChrisM came up with. With these locks and a hard tonneau cover the bed is as secure as possible. I know locks and hard covers can probably be popped open with a prybar, but a knife will open a soft top.

I got my Bakflip G2 for $690 shipped from ebay. It didn't install it right away because it only came with 2 elevator screws. 2 more are being shipped to me. I guess I am happy with it so far. I noticed a couple of places where screws are misdrilled. I am going to take pictures of all the problem areas and address them with the manufacturer. Now all I have to do is figure out which tailgate locking system I want to use.

I had a TorzaTop on my 2006 RTL and loved it. Paid $325 at www.tonneaucovers4less.com and couldnt beat that price anywhere. Just sold my 2006 and bought a 2009RTL and ordered another...now on sale for $298 plus free shipping! I got a call from them today saying that it only fits through 2008 model years so I emailed Advantage directly to find out the truth. I know the bed didnt change size...are the bed hooks in a different place on a 2009 than previous years? I will keep you updated with what I find out!

I recently purchased a 2009 RTS and have been researching covers as well.
The Extangs and Torzas look like good products but I'm concerned about how much bed width you loose due to the mounting rails.
Has anyone see this as problem?
I also live in the northeast (not too far north), Philly region. We get our share of snow so I'd like to have a fairly sturdy cover.
Suggestions are appreciated.

Had an Advantage soft tonneau cover on my previous RTX and with 60k, never had a problem. Didn't lose any width space, it was easy to take off and put on (by urself) and endure both hot, and cold/snow of UP of Michigan. Used existing holes, and only created a small lip on existing rails for the clamps. Liked it so well, I put another one my new 09 RTL.

Well I guess this is my chance to sound off / forewarn consumers with the very poor quality and performance of that Roll n Lock cover advertised above. Bought one in 92 for my GMC Sonoma. Almost everything failed on it within 1 year, aluminum ribbing, cover material, screws and hardware. All this and more for close to 800.00 installed WTF ? Deluxe garbage at its best.
One can only hope that they have improved a bit, but then who knows

Thanks for the info mpup10. I like the look of the Advantage as well. The issue I see with most of these installs is that you will no longer be able to open the trunk fully with the addition of a rail. Sounds like you didn't have that problem with the Advantage. Is that correct?

I also got the Torza hard hat premier model 58901 via EBAY for about $485, it fits great and looks terrific. With the convertible top material it's a real classy cover.

I understand that some covers make a noise when driving. What tops dont make the noise? I heard there was one that the entire cover hinged, is that a hard cover? I would like a secure cover, as watertight and quiet as possible. Yes picky picky. I guess I am use to the fiberglass tonneau covers on pickups.

As a follow up to my previous post...theAdvantage TorzaTop for 05-08 model years ALSO fits 09 model years. Advantage quickly replied confirming this despite their website saying otherwise. I ordered one through truckaccessories4less.com and got it in less than 2 weeks for $299 shipped....cant beat it! It does inhibit the trunk opening fully but you can still get almost anything in and out. Side rails are very unobtrusive and the whole cover comes off in 1 minute flat and is very light and easy to handle. This is my 2nd one (previously on a 2006 RTL) and never had any issues...no noise...works great in summer and winter...beats shoveling snow out of the back!

Greetings ! I have had a good overall experience with my bed cover. It's a roll-up style. " ACCESS " Brandname bed cover, google it & I'm sure you'll find it. An affordable price unit however I will admit that the install instructions may appear detailed & lengthy, it was broken down for ease - that was what I needed !
Go Red Sox !
