It looks pretty good, but I just wanted to get some feedback before I order one. I understand that they are "Custom Made", but there is a fine line between "Custom Made" and "Home Made". Like I said, they look good, and the price is sure better than the re-trax, but I want to hear your comments on it.
Thanks,
Matt

Same here. I want to know how this thing holds up in the rain. Is is watertight, proof whatever.... is water getting in. I know that the trunk fully opens and that is a plus. And I like the idea of the auto tailagate lock, I am really thinking of getting this but then I saw a combo one, so I waiting a bit to see how that goes.

But the million dollar question still stands "Is this thing watertight???

Am looking forward to hearing the reviews from those of you who have ordered. Especially interested in photos of the "handles" that let you release the cover to fold and remove. Hard to see from the photos that Swish has posted.

SWISH: Just and idea to throw into the mix. I have been eyeing the "Eye of Fire LED Bar" available around. Basicially an LED bar that is a running light, brake light and turn signal lights that goes across the truck tailgate. Is would seem easy enough to integrate one of these into the END (rather than the TOP) of your cover, making it an all in one. (Based on the photos, it looks like the cover goes over the tailgate.)

This is the unit I am talking about:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/tf-Browse/s-10101/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2003666/showCustom-0/p-2003666/N-111+10714+600009988/c-10614

I know you don't want to have an infinite number of combinations on the cover, but this might be a popular one.

Anyone installed one of these on a Ridgeline?

Swishman-
What is the construction of this? It looks to be something (wood?) with Vinyl around it. I noticed in a few of your images that there seemed to be bubbles. Is it in line with boat quality work you see for side interior panels with vinyl wrapped around wood?

thanks.

Hello there,

The cover is made of Marine grade wood. A coat of resin is then applied. After that then Tonneau Grade Vinyl is applied to the top. The under side is covered in Marine Grade Vinyl. In the images where you see air pockets that is the under sider of the cover. On the top side there are no air pockets. This is why you see air pockets. Marine Grade Vinyl is porous and Tonneau is not. The cover is made up of three parts. 1. the top plates. 2. the subframe. 3. the bottom plates. This construction makes the cover strong and durable. If it where just plywood covered it would warp.

Swishman,

I think I have to agree with maybearidge, the pictures you posted do look like the top vinyl has large bubble or wrinkles. I like your cover the best after looking at the review (posted by dbb) of the 4 contenders. I guess the price is what's really attractive. I did something similar for a Ford truck I owned a long time ago. I guess my only reservation is that your cover still looks a little bit "home made". No offense but if you made some improvements in this area (even with a cost increase to the buyer) you might get a lot more sales or maybe you just need some better pictures posted.

This is just my opinion and I don't want to start a flame war here. I wish you luck with this project and hope to be a customer at some point.

Well after much adoo Brian's Custom Ridgeline Bed Cover has arrived!!!!!!!! It was a Fedex mystery for quite awhile but delivery was made while I was out of town within the last few days.

With the exception of a couple of edge bruises from Fedex it looks great. A little Crazy Glue and a black marker will fix that up. The vinyl fits perfectly and it is one solid top.

Its -20 C here right now so I'll see if I can't get it into a heated bay for the install. Pics and info to follow.

THANKS BRIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello minihummer, I understand you are anticipating the arrival of your bed cover and other items. Your order was placed on 11/16/05, which was 3 weeks ago yesterday. At the time you ordered your products, completion time was 2-3 weeks and was stated in the product description. Since this is virtually the only place to purchase custom Ridgeline items without dropping 2K, you can understand that they are in high demand. Due to this increased popularity, completion time stated in the product description has increased to 3-4 weeks. We pride ourselves on manufacturing only quality products. All of our customers are pleased with the quality of our products and don't mind the production time once it is received and installed. We are currently working hard to fill all of our orders in the order they were placed and we appreciate your patience while we complete your custom Ridgeline items.

Thank you,

Well this has been the easiest install I've ever done. Two sets of hands and about 20 min. total should do it. 5 self tapping screws per side (included), set the guide in place, set the rail in place and drive the first screw in slowly...do not tighten yet. Go to the other end of the rail and align it as per direction and drive the screw in place and tighten. Install the remaining three screws, tighten as you go and tighten the first one. Now repeat on the other side and your ready for the cover.

Place the cover as far forward as possible but do not drag the cover across the weather stripping. Pull the pins in with the mechanism from underneath and have your partner press down on the cover to set the pin below the rail, release the mechanism. Pin adjustment (slight bend) may be required just don't go crazy. Do the other side...now do the back half, both sides, and your done.

Thanks Brian, awesome value for a well built cover!!!!!!

I think I might install a ski rack on this cover:cool:

Well, 46 days now, and still waiting. Wednesday the 14th the owner, Brian, called to say the cover would definitely be delivered yesterday, Friday, so I could install it this weekend as we are leaving on Monday for Christmas. I guess his shipper isn't communicating with him. Looks like it's time to go out shopping for weatherproof luggage bags. Very disappointing, to say the least.

As you know, Your cover was shipped when we spoke. As for the shipping company as there time to deliver was set on there website. If it does not get there when they Stated it would is that my fault? I dont understand. I also stated to you that it takes time to build this cover and you understood that. I really wish it didnt take so long guys. We spend countless days and nights building your products and I really want you to be happy with them.

Well......... "IT" arrived today!!!!! :D

The cover IS everything I expected AND and a great price (IMHO). Was it worth the wait, yes...did I get frustrated with the timeframe for delivery, yes! But now that I have it, and installed it, I am VERY pleased with the "fit and finish". It took me about 20 minutes to install by myself. Now I just have to wait for the weather to warm up so I can install the gasket set. It's too cold here for the adhesive to set right, plus Brian hasn't finished the instructions yet for the gasket set. I also have the manual lock to install, that too I will wait for a nice day.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year but most of all....keep the shiny side up :)

Hi all!

Ok so I ordered my cover from Brian Nov 14th. Its now Dec 29th. This is taking a very long time. I have received only one call from Brian a few weeks ago where he stated he would be able to have the cover for me before Xmas. Ofcourse that did not happen. I had to drive 14 hours back east from Detroit in a snow storm with all my tools (my parents just moved and was makingthem bookcases and cabinets for xmas gifts) and gifts covered by a tied down sick looking bright blue tarp. I am really starting to get unhappy with this situation. I understand that quality takes time but the website did say 2-3 weeks build time and then he did call and say he would have it to me before xmas. So far thats two strikes. Had i known that it was going to take this long I would have considered paying more for a product that I knew I could have when I needed it. I think this wait is very unprofessional on Brians part and I feel that he should make it up to me somehow. Possible a returned amount back or free shipping or something. I jsut know thatI am very unhappy with the lack of truthfulness in his comunication.

Just my thoughts..... I hope that this product is worth the wait. If not I will be kicking up a fuss.

I spoke with Brian and he said that there was not enough demand for the tailgate gasket, and thus he was discontinuing it. However, he did have a few left. You might want to e-mail him and see if he has any remaining. In my situation (this was on December 8th or thereabouts) he had a few, put it back on the web site long enough for me to order it... and, I guess it's back off the web site now.

Hope this helps......

The Tailgate gasket is for stopping or not allowing water or debris to enter the bed from the rear. This is only useful if you have an existing or plan on installing a tonneau cover or some sort of cover for your bed. I saw pics of the tailgate from the inside with and without the gasket and I was very surprised to see what I saw.
I did order one because I also placed an order for the cover on Nov. 15th and still haven't gotten my cover nor dress bars yet...

Hi swishman, I’ve sent you an e-mail last week via your web site asking the interior height of the hard Tonneau bed cover.

The question was:
“the height between the bed (from top of the “bed rib”) and the cover”.

Thanks.

Hey Yaremasi..while I understand your point, I hope you also see swishman's point. He's a one man act working night and day to make a quality product. I would rather wait for it then get something in a few days that I may have to return. Not saying I will and all sponsors of the ROC have wonderful testimonials. The choice is yours my friend. No one here is forcing anyone to buy from him. It's just an option. I know H&A and Retrax would love your money!! :D
I ordered my product from him on 11/30. I know it will be here and I know it will be the best he offers. I don't now him personally and I don't get royalties from pushing his business but I have talked to him on the phone a few times and I can assure you, he takes every order personal and with pride. He is like a few others on here including myself that are a one man band.
It's good to come here and research the products you are interested in. That's what the ROC is all about. That way you know when and what to expect. If you want it fast or slow..you now know who to go to.
Just my opinion.:p

Ditto on LadyRidge's observations..... I, too, am waiting for mine. I've talked with Brian at Basickoncepts, and I'm convinced it will be worth the wait. If you'd like to chat with him, send him an e-mail via his web site. That's what I did -- I had a few questions, and he called me in response to my e-mail. I meant to attach this with my last e-mail. The link is here on the site somewhere, but I had the document handy on my hard drive. This is a good summary of the various covers (in case you have not seen it). I was looking for a top that was easy to remove (and stores in the back seat area), and one that would not keep the trunk from opening all the way, plus price was a factor. Others have found alternative covers that have met their needs (Retrax, etc.):

Notice he's not posting anymore that because he trying to get everyone's product done and out the door. Remember he doesn't have back stock so each one has a born on date probably 5-10 shipping days before you get it.

Some/most of you have waited very patiently. I'm sure he's is quoting different product delivery times now then when he started.

With so many people bothering this Swishman fellow, I would rather ask here - perhaps from minihummer - if you are charged in full for an item you will not see for over two months from the day you order it. I don't like the idea of being billed in full for anything that isn't going to ship for 8-10 weeks.

Thanks in advance! E
