Was wondering if an expert from Discount Tire could tell me what are the biggest tires I could run with the stock 17s without any modifications or lift?

This question has been asked and answered a ton of times on here use the search button. But with no lift or grinding or removing mud guards the biggest I could run was 245/70/17 that just almost rubs since it is a 30.8 inch tire. I had them on my truck before the lift and they are still on it after lift with no issues

265/65/17 will rub a little only at full turn.
275/60/17 no rubbing. just wider, not taller.
you can't go wider then 275 on stock but can go taller if you get the lift.
here is a tire calculator someone gave me when i asked the same Q.
this Q. has been on here at least every day by some one new seems like. just do a little search.

So I would be able to squeeze 255/70/17s on the stock wheels without shaving? I don't have to go wider than 245 but I definitely want to go taller than the stock height of 65...

I would stick with the 245/70R17 if you don't want to do any trimming. The 255/70R17 is taller and wider than the stock tire and will most likely rub without at least a leveling kit.

the 265/65/17 is a bigest tire i have seen on/heard that fits with only little rub at full lock. Use the calcualtor and see the over all height or what ever numbers you need.

why does the site with the calculator not recommend more than a difference of 3% because of the possibility of brake failure?.. thats makes me a lil wary of ordering a tire that much taller. would the stock rim fit on this tire?

Yes the LT255/70R17 will work on the stock 7.5" wide wheel. :)

yeah i don't want to trim or level it out... i'm concerned about the warning the calculator gives on a 3% plus difference and break failure.. me not knowing a lot about tires makes me hesitent

With larger tires comes more weight and more rolling mass. Your brakes will work harder with larger tires and your risk of brake failure will increase. Simple put, small tire upsing leads to the recommendation of small brake upgrading (like better pads and or better rotors), if you are lifting your truck and bolting up a much larger tire, much larger/ stronger brakes are recommended as well.

thanks appreciate the info.. now to figure out which size to get without needing to change out rotors pads..
