I have one of the Westin Bed Extenders I bought from Pep Boys during their clearance sale and the installation was pretty straight forward. Unfortunately, the extender spends most of it's time sitting in my garage because I don't like to remove it each time I need access to the trunk. Has anyone installed a mounting kit further into the bed, so the extender can be carried up against the front of the bed at the cab. I've found several mounting kits on Amazon, but I know the sides of the bed are further apart than where it mounts near the tailgate and would like to know what solution you used to install the bed extender in a more usable position. Pictures please, as I'm a "gotta see to to understand it" kind of guy. :o Thanks in advance.

I purchased and installed mine the same as you and ran into the same problem.
What I did was turn the extender around and place the back of the U up next to the truck cab (fits perfectly under the little stationary section of the Bakflip cover that's there.). I then bought from Harbor Freight a hand ratcheting cargo bar for under $15 buck and placed it up against the middle part of the extender. The pads of the cargo bar fit right behind both of the Bakflip drain tubes and with a couple squeezes of the ratchet handle the extender is held snuggley in place. Have done it this for over a year now with no wear marks or damage on either the bar or the bed and not once has it interfered with anything I've loaded into the bed.. Also, my cover does not lock and neither have been stolen. By chance have your mounting brackets badly oxidized?
Sorry no pictures to assist you so I hope you will give it a try to see.

Mine is bungee corded in the same fashion that T-Rex has his stowed. I also have a cover but I use a cable lock when when the tonneau is off of the truck. No one has ever messed with it.
PS. I'm getting the truck back from the shop tomorrow. (Finally)
