Castro 09-11-2009, 06:24 PM So this is my first post on this forum. I have an 08 Ridgeline, White with tan leather. Navi, heated seats, running boards, back-up cam, roof rack, hood windows and sunroof air deflectors. I also have the door moldings, they really give it a nice look. I have just ordered a cover for my bed and after doing some research I decided to go with Bak-flips design. Will go ahead and post some photos when i get it but in the mean time heres what my girl looks like. I am thinking about a 2" lift but dont know yet....

Any one have any experience with the HD line of Bak-flips? How does the metal panels hold up through winter?

No experience to report...but I'm also looking at the BakFlip HD and would love to hear some feedback.
lardog 09-12-2009, 10:19 AM Nice looking ridge. I think painting the grill a matte black would go with your other black accessories ( just a thought). I have the Bak-flip and love it! It was the first item i bought for my ridge and then went up to Tahoe in the dead of winter and it worked great! No leaks and it held two and a half feet of snow with no bending. Good luck to ya.
For what it's worth, I just ordered a BakFlip HD this morning. It should arrive next week. I paid $900, no sales tax + free shipping. I'll post a follow-up after I install it.
BIGGUY 09-14-2009, 12:45 PM Welcome to the ROC;)
Castro 09-14-2009, 07:54 PM Thanks for the comments. Took a couple more photos of my baby today, figured I would share them. I paid around 900 bucks and got a couple free gifts and free shipping. I plan on playing in the sand and mud this week so maybe i can get some good photos of it getting pulled out of soome slop :)

Any ideas on next mods? Debateing 2" lift? Brush Guard? I have a set of 150 spoke 20" wheels with rubber ( 2 sets of spinners) that i was thinking of putting on for the fall, would bring alot of laughts for sure. I used to run them on a supercharged riveara i used to have.
07_rtx 09-14-2009, 08:46 PM I have a 2 inch lift on mine with bfg mud terrain tires and haven't gotten stuck yet! Ill post some pics of my truck in a few hours when I get home from work unless someone beats me to it
07_rtx 09-14-2009, 08:48 PM Oh and welcome to ROC! I am wanting to get a brush guard and roof rack for my truck. Even though I'm gonna be heavily modifying my brush guard to support a winch
07_rtx 09-14-2009, 11:36 PM I posted pics on your truxxx question thread.

Castro 09-17-2009, 11:45 AM due in monday. ordered online through autoanything.... not happy with them, thye say they had it in stock. Nope. it will be shipped from manufacturer. Why dont they just sell it direct?
I bought mine from tonneaucovers4less (http://www.tonneaucovers4less.com/bak-35601-60.html)
They were very pleasant to deal with. The cover is also being drop-shipped from the manufacturer and should arrive next week.
Here's an update: my Bak-Flip HD arrived today, but the carton (and it's contents) were totally trashed in transit. The Bak-flip is beat to hell. I'll be calling the seller tomorrow to get another. The packaging was not all that impressive (this was drop-shipped from the manufacturer) but it looks like something extremely heavy must have fallen on the package while in the care of UPS -- I don't think damage could have been avoided unless they had crated the thing in a wooden shipping crate.
Castro 09-21-2009, 06:13 PM mine was due today. have to wait and see if it arrived....
Castro 09-24-2009, 07:51 PM Dont have the time to give details, but i am happy with my bak-flip HD. A couple of the common complaints but with a little tweaking its a hell of a cover!

RockyRoad 09-24-2009, 08:05 PM My bakflip is five months old. Works great, easy to install, easy to use. Protects your STUFF while traveling.
Castro 09-24-2009, 09:32 PM So if you install one of these, the first thing you should do after placeing the rails on is look at the drain cups. There is a gap (on mine) between these and the cab wall. Easily fixed with some black silicone. From what i can tell everyone who installs these on a ridge should expect to have a tube on hand (about 6 bucks). I tested mine with out silicone and just with a hose water entered the bed. With silicone, literally no water. Second test was with silicone through car wash. Stopping right after to fill up i inspected my bed, completely dry. Along with down pours today i am astounded that Bak-Flip hasnt included something to deal with this. If I was in the design teal i would have added a piece of weather stripping with tape and installed that along the cab wall, retrofit the edges so it drives water into the cup. Regardless I am happy with it ( aside from small amount of glue leakage that seems common on these) and it came near perfect condition. I really check it over before, durring and after install and its well made.
One question to those who have one installed, it came with 4 self drilling screws, although there are only 2 pre-drilled holes in the rails. So where did you place the remaining 2 screws? I was thinking about placing them where the regidity of the rails seem to be the least, but was interested in what every one else did.
Thanks for the update and the photos. UPS is picking up my damaged Bak-Flip today and the company has sent a replacement. Here's a photo of the Bak-Flip I received earlier this week.
RockyRoad 09-25-2009, 03:38 PM roba You were correct when you said it was being drop shipped. Bakflip was great when I had a small problem. By the way UPS sucks with protecting your items and insist you double box most fragile items. I guess they are looking for more of a challenge to destroy. Please, someone stick up for them. I won't.

hah...no kidding. The package was really trashed in a big way. Some considerate UPS employee had added a large amount of clear packing tape to prevent the contents from spilling out before it was delivered. When UPS brought the package, they didn't try to get a signature. In fact, they didn't even ring the doorbell. They left out it out by the garage, and then I'm sure they crossed their fingers and ran like hell.
Castro 09-25-2009, 06:11 PM Mine came fed-ex. Box was perfect with no damage :)
BigDaddyStone 09-26-2009, 10:04 PM I installed my Bak Flip about a year ago and love it!
Castro 10-02-2009, 03:50 PM Picked up my honda 400 ex (440 build) 4 wheeler today after replacing the clutch and a few things. Anyways i folded the cover up and it fit in perfect. rear wheels on the tailgate (but it has a larger bumper on the 4 wheeler other wise almost not). Will get pics next time but so people know it can fit a decent size wheeler in the back with out removeing the cover. pretty cool
UPS picked up my damaged BackFlip earlier this week and delivered a new one yesterday. I installed it after work today. I'm very happy with the quality. I think this is going to work out great.
Castro 10-02-2009, 09:26 PM lets see it!
RockyRoad 10-03-2009, 08:17 PM roba, Good luck with your new bak-flip. I know you will be happy. Don't forget to get a bed mat.
roba, Good luck with your new bak-flip. I know you will be happy. Don't forget to get a bed mat.
Thanks. I bought an Elemat (from another ROC member) right after getting my RL last year. Last week I installed a ProClip for my Nuvi 265WT and that's working out well too. I still have to install my RTX grill that's been sitting around my garage for quite awhile. I'm going to paint the grill trim gun-metal gray before installing it. I really need to get going on that project.
RockyRoad 10-06-2009, 09:10 AM Your right, My mat was my first investment. Then I went for the grille, gold emblems, bug deflector, moon roof visor, splash guards, under rear seat mat, and bak flip.
4LINEX 10-07-2009, 03:57 PM FYI:
Bakflip no longer makes a plastic G2. Both the current G2 and the HD models are made with aluminum panels. The differences between the G2 and HD are:
1. The HD goes through a two-stage priming process and the G2 has one.
2. The HD is slightly more rigid because the inner core material is slightly more rigid than the G2's inner core material.
So, if you decide to buy a G2 from an online dealer, you might want to make sure it an aluminum one. Many dealers still have plastic G2's in stock.
Castro 10-07-2009, 08:53 PM nice to know. glad i have the alum. HD :)
4LINEX 10-08-2009, 02:39 PM More info:
Bakflip is supposed to introduce a new model, the SD, in early November. The cover will be made of fiberglass.
Castro 10-08-2009, 09:13 PM really. damn. well we will see how they stand up i guess
nhridge1 10-14-2009, 09:23 PM Finally hunkered down after spending the last three days going through as many posts as I could find on ROC as well as all the Bak Flip reviews on realtruck, autoanything, etc. and bought the Bak-Flip HD tonight from realtruck.com. Used the SJ912 coupon code (found somewhere in the posts, thanks) and saved 8%. Should ship in 4-5 days per the website. Waiting for my weathertech floor liner mats to show up. Putting the rear flaps on tomorrow. Love my truck!
BTW, my almost three year old son asked me yesterday during his first ride-along, 'Daddy, where's the monster in your monster pick up truck?'
Thanks everyone for all of the tonneau comments. This site is great. Even told my car salesman about it.
I've had my BF HD installed for about a week now and I'm really happy with it. I haven't installed the drain tubes yet, but I'm not sure that I'll even bother. After a couple of reasonably good rains I haven't seen any water in the bed at all. The weatherstripping seem very snug all the way around.
On a related note, you may want to check out the Pop N Lock group buy that is just getting started:

Adding the tailgate lock will be a nice finishing touch once you've installed the BakFlip.
I got my PopnLock and BakFlip HD in the mail yesterday and today, respectively. Of course, I had to dive in.
I was very impressed with the packaging for the HD (pieces foamed in) so the cover was in perfect condition. As has been mentioned, installation is a breeze.
One problem . . . no star knobs and bolts. Called BakFlip and they should be on the way.
PopnLock was also very easy to install -- really nothing to it. The most difficult part was getting the trim back on the tailgate -- that was a real pain!
nhridge1 10-15-2009, 03:32 PM Yet another post with someone missing parts for their Bak-Flip installation. Ordered mine last night though I hope I don't have the same problem. It sure seems like the Bak-Flip corporation should be notified somehow of their shoddy quality control. I'm quite certain their customer service reps are tired of receiving phone calls from consumers asking for parts.
