Guys I've been shooting with my D90 for a while and of course the onboard flash is useless. I had my eyes on the sb-600 unit but a friend showed up with the nikon sb-400 flash and i really liked the compactness of the whole setup. Has anybody used this flash? Also would any one be interested in selling me a used nikon flash?

I have a SB-400 that I use with my D5000. It's small enough that I leave it on the body almost all the time. The only thing that's a bit of a problem is you can't ceiling bounce when shooting vertically. Otherwise it's great.

Agree with the limitation seo posted above... which is why I went with the SB-600 for my trusty D40.

I actually went out and picked up the sb-400 and love it. Like already stated it's small enough to use easily and other then not being able to bounce flash in vertical it's great. Leaps and bounds better then onboard flash.

I'm a Canon guy (mostly because most of my photography friends are too) but I would have to agree that the ability to bounce is huge if you do any portraiture. For outdoors, direct flash is a little more forgiving and can help to reduce shadows, but indoors, the ability to use walls and ceilings for a refelctor improves the light quality a lot. Happy Shooting.
