A friend of mine has the factory remote start for his pilot and really likes it. It has some nice features. Do they offer one for the Ridgeline? I have not been able to find one

There are lots of discussion threads here about remote starters. Honda doesn't offer one, but you've got your pick from a handful of aftermarket versions.

Thanks for the info. I realize their are a ton of after market units, but I'll never had that done again after the problems I had with my Tundra

Not sure what your experience was with your Tundra (but we've all had a nightmare at one point or another with an R.S.) todays units actaully have a dialogue with the car rather than just being relays and switches...while more complex to get working, once they do there is a lot less to fail.

I'm not an installer or a vendor nor do I have anything to do with these if you buy one, I'm just saying...no need to go without as the technology is there.

When I had my remote start installed in my 05 Tundra the place screwed up the wiring. They were "Approved" by the Toyota dealer. It took them 4 days to fix the problem. The truck at the time had 200 miles on it and Toyota washed their hands of it.

Not with a big "H" stamped on it, no. :) If they did, I probably would have opted for it on mine when I bought it.

I'm due for my first service - I'm thinking about talking to my rep (who I've been dealing with for more than a decade now) to see if they have 3rd party units they install there. (Service dealership is not the one I bought my RL from, in case you're wondering)

So I have to asked. Why the heck doesn't Honda have a factory remove for the Ridgeline? Any guesses? The have a really nice one for the pilot. The trucks can't be that different.

I had remote start on my 2000 Ford Exploder err... Explorer. It was a great SUV no matter what everyone else thinks...

I did have some issues with the remote start. Initially, it would start on its own randomly. The dealer fixed it. After that misshap, I found I loved the utility of remote start. I am a firefighter and have to work regardless of weather. Often when the snow comes, I am working and my car would get covered. Remote start allowed me to start the car, wait 10 min, go out and easily clean the remaining ice/snow and be ready to go home to my wife and kids.

I will get a remote start installed in my new RTL when I research local installers in the Baltimore area. My plan is to get remote start, a back-up camera, and a good after market nav/stereo system. There weren't any RTL nav available when I bought mine last week :act047:

Love the RL - can't wait to test her in the snow :act035:

The Honda dealer installed a Python remote start on our 2009 Honda Accord. It is much better then then Honda remote start (and less expensive too). Includes alarm features and a much better range. I can start my car from inside my house or office without having to have line of sight. I live in AZ and having remote start to cool the car down a bit is really nice. I'll be adding a Python to my RL in the next couple of months.

Don't know if this is a country-specific thing(i'm in Canada), but about 2 years ago I had gone into the Honda dealership to get some info on a new civic...never did buy one but... while in there I grabbed a pamphlet on dealer accessories. In this pamphlet was an insert that was all about a 2-way remote start unit for Honda vehicles. A Honda-branded one too at that! The remote looked just like a regular Honda remote(same black color and texture), but a little bigger and with an lcd screen on it....definitely a Honda product. Seemed to offer all the functions of a higher-end aftermarket remote start/alarm combo too. And judging by the info, it didn't look like it was vehicle-specific as it was outlined in it's own pamphlet with no reference to any specific Honda vehicle, but was definitely a Honda pamphlet and a Honda product. It was a dealer-installed item though and could not be purchased already installed at the factory. If I remember correctly, the dealer quoted about $600 installed. This is on par with some higher-end aftermarket units, so it wasn't unreasonable.

Don't know if this helps any, but you may be able to find something like this still, at the dealer. I have no idea if this item has been discontinued or what, but it may be worth checking into.

I know when the time comes, I'll be installing the new CompuStar 2-way starter/alarm combo with the DroneMobile(CompuStar) iPhone add-on. The DroneMobile iPhone app is fantastic! I currently am running a CompuStar Pro 2-way starter/alarm on my 5-speed '99 CR-V and I love it! And just for the record, I'm in no way associated with said company, nor do I have friends involved in the business. I just really like their products. :)

I've got Crimestopper alarms and remotes on my Ridgeline, Si Hatchback and 98 Expedition. The one on the Expedition had to be replaced two years ago (It was about 8 years old by then) after it just stopped recognizing the remote. I took it back to the same installed and he gave me a discount on a new unit. The SI Hatch offered remote start, but since it was a stick shift, we didn't hook it up. The one I've had on my Ridgeline has been working flawlessly since I put it on in '08. I work on the fourth floor of a building. When it's time to go anywhere, I hit the remote start button on the remote, take the elevator downstairs, walk across the street to the parking garage and by the time I get to the truck, the engine is running and the A/C is blasting...very nice on these triple digit days.

Yes, Honda DOES have the remote start for at least the 2010's. However after having the demonstration, I turned it down infavor of an after market

It is relatively new to the guys at my (i think its a new style remote) dealership so some of its features were vague.

One feature is that once using the RS, U have to insert the and TURN OFF the ignition and RE-start the vehicle (anti-HiJack feature)

There is another feature which they couldnt yet explain, is that in certain cases, the vehicle will not remote start untill u go out and turn on and turn off the ignition. I had thought that it might have been installed wrong. my sales guy told me they have had a few complaints about it.

But like I said, It was new to the installers at the dealership So I cant really give anyone an answer about its quirks:act064:

On kinda annoying thing about it is, its at least twice the size of the biggest remotes i have ever seen, It was 4x bigger than my ford remote

I wish you would tell my local Honda dealers that. I have three dealers giving me quotes. Each one said they THINK their might be a remote but none of the parts guys can get a straight answer from Honda, WTF:act060:

I find it hard to believe the Pilot remote can't be used, but thats what they tell me

There is NO OEM Accessory that adds a factory remote start to the Ridgeline.

The remote start is only offered for the Pilot, Accord Sedan, Coupe and Crosstour.

It's not on the Ridgeline website and not listed as a Ridgeline accessory at the Honda E-store.

It may be that they are using the remote start from one of the vehicles listed above -as the only difference is the harness that you use - and hence may explain why there are issues with using it in the Ridgeline.
