Really, your first try? That's a pretty awesome first try at, "high dynamic range imaging". Did you use multiple images? I got to know your secret! Well done!

I agree. Nice photo. The only blemish I see is that grey line goes through the driver's side tires. Great picture though.

Yes that was my first and only try. I snapped 3 raw photos with my T2I and Canon 100-400 L lens, and used Photomatix to merge them and change some color settings

I think the lines are due to the fact I am using a trial of Photomatix, pretty sure its a watermark of sorts. They are not in the original :)

I had a couple of minutes, so I used photoshop to clean up the water marks. Not perfect, but a little better.

That is very strange. Photomatix has a water mark yes but it says PHOTOMATIX in about 5 spots. I do not see this so I don't think you are useing a trial version.

Outstanding photo of your Ridgeline! I've been interested in HDR for quite a while, but never tried it. I have a Canon T1i, and you've inspired me to try HDR. Sure makes a nice photo.....as you've shown. Nice work.

For those who want to give HDR a try, Photomatix will let you download their software for free. It is the same as the purchased version except it puts a watermark on the finished product. If you purchase it at a later date, the watermarks will magically go away.

Thanks for the tip Hhessier9!
I tried Photomatix on a mountain picture that I took during our past Sedona ROC meet. I made 2 copies of the original photo. I made 1 of the copies darker using Picasa, the other copy I made lighter. Then I read all 3 photos into Photomatix. It generated this picture. Not Bad! It couldn't have been easier.

I have had my best results using a five exposure bracket with a 1 EV difference tween each one. Esentially a -2, a -1 a 0 and a +1 and a +2. I shoot them in a single burst while the camera sits on a tripod. I think this works better as you are not manipulating the data from a single exposure. My opinion for what it's worth. OH, Photomatix does have a good tutorial on their site or you can go here:

That is sweet! I've been wanting to try HDR since I read of a writeup in a photo magazine. Definitely "pops" out at you.:act035:
