LadyRidge made the following remark in a post "Reading this post gave me an idea. As I read, it sounded like Twas the Night Before Christmas. Maybe we should start our own little Christmas Story. "What Was Life Before Ridgeline"?"
Couldn't resist the challenge so here's my version. What's yours?

What was Life before Ridgeline?

Twas the life before Ridgeline and all thru the land
No new truck had stirred me not even a van
All the brochures were read and reread with care
In hopes that a new stunning ride would appear

Then, what to my wondering eyes should appear
The brand new Honda RL with some real nifty gear
Sure looked like a driver all handsome and fast
I knew in a moment I’d found it at last!

More comfy than Fords and Chevrolets too
I shouted “Oh Honda, I'm so thankful for you”
So off to the dealer with checkbook in hand
I hoped I could get one for about thirty grand

Add Navi, add tonneau, add moonroof, add running boards too
Add sensors, add camera, add chrome, add metallic trim too
The Ridge was pimped from the front to the back
But I still thought I wanted the Honda roof rack

My whole body shook and I sure got the blues
When the manager gave me the financial news
I laughed when I saw it in spite of the cost
It was just my nerves but I thought I had lost

He said not a word but went on with his bid
The trade-in had saved me, really it did
So I signed on the line and gave him my check
He said “Give us an hour, we’ll have it on deck”

I inserted the key, it really was cool
Who wouldn’t buy one, except for a fool?
As I drove off the lot with my wife at my side
I shouted to all “What a hell of a ride!!”

twas the night before christmas ,when all threw the house, not a creature was stirring, not even my wife undoing her blouse. The pontiac and chevy were parked in the drive. The children were nestled all snug in their beds while visions of " a fricking car with heat" danced thru their heads.
When out on the drive there rose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.Away to the window I flew like a flash, only to see my chevy in a big pile of ash.
In the new fallen snow, what to my wandering eyes should appear, but a shiny red ridgline parked right in my street.I jumped with glee, and screamed this is so neat !.
Is this for me ? as I put in the key.
My wife thru open the window and shouted," you"ll shoot your eye out" as I drove away shouting < " out of my way chevies, move along fords,.....

What was Life before Ridgeline?

Hey Webwader, are familiar with the term, THAT WAS THE S**T! :D I agree with Lady Ridge that was unique! You should make it your own and pimp it to Honda!

Nice job, Webwader and rtboy. You guys inspired me to write my own! :D

Twas the midst of July, I'm out on a stroll,
When what do I see, that tingles my soul?
A brand new truck my landlord just bought,
and it might just be all that I've ever sought.

The emblem said Honda, my jaw opened wide
I thought to myself, "Must be a nice ride!
Must be expensive...," knowing Wylie was rich,
But now it had happened -- I had the itch.

A week had passed and I came home to find
My boyfriend was nearly out of his mind.
"Did you see Wylie's truck? Isn't it great?"
I knew we were hooked; we had taken the bait.

My old wagon was fine, but I needed a change.
Over 10 years, it had gone the whole range.
I needed a new one, but nothing seemed right
Until I drove the Ridgeline one night.

What a ride! What a joy! How amazing it seemed
To find a truck that rode like a dream.
The steering, the pick-up, the comfortable seats,
The trunk and the storage, oh what a treat!

I searched and studied and did my homework,
I dealt with one saleman, kind of a jerk,
Then found a few more, happy to comply
With a girl who knew just what she wanted to buy.

The searching all over, the options picked out,
Just sign on the line, narry a doubt.
A brand new truck in its first model year,
But hey, it's a Honda, so nothing to fear! :D

Wow, we have a lot of talent here! Great poems, guys and gal!

Has there EVER been a truck before that has inspired poetry? I doubt it!

Great job, flymuck! Now let's hear from some more ROCers. You may be a poet and not yet know it. You can rhyme if you just take the time. Write a good verse, make mine the worst. Get in the spirit, come on now, let's hear it. :)

That made me laugh, Webwader.

So, Mr. I'm-So-Good-At-Rhyming, what rhymes with "orange"? :D

I'll tell you what rhymes with "orange" if you tell me what rhymes with "silver". :D

How about a lymric?

Borrowed an Accord I was fond "ah"
I could use a new truck. I must ponder.
To the dealer's, I looked.
A quick test and I'm hooked.
I drove home in a Ridgeline by Honda.

Might as well confess as to what rymes with "month" and "purple" as well. And, no, nurple is not a word.

PS: Door hinge is close to ryming with orange, at least if you say it right.

Oh, almost forgot, filler rymes with silver. ;)

AWESOME STUFF!

Reading these actually brought tears to my eyes! How could a vehicle bring so much emotion and...dare I say it...pleasure?? (OK, maybe the ensuing images are a little too much...) But my point is that I've never been affected this way by a vehicle before, and it's fun to read how it's affected so many others the same way. Phenomenon!

I can't wait to show these to my wife. She's gonna love them!

Oh, almost forgot, filler rymes with silver.
Door hinge only rhymes with orange if you're Cockney, as in "'enry 'iggins".
And filler rhymes with silver like blather rhymes with black. :D

OK, so door hinge was pushing it. I still think filler is darn close! ;)

Q1000

I't not summer and that's a bummer
If you drove a GM Hummer
We'd think you were a whole lot dumber
But if you drove an RSX
You're smart enought to write some text

Web, are we going to have to rescue you from rhyming every sentence you utter?

Seriously, I love your 'Twas rendition! Thanks for taking the time.

Do I really rhyme?
I mean every time?
Gonna have to stop
The rhyming I'll drop
Truckin' sounds like an ROC cop

Seriously, thanks to everyone for their kind words. I had a lot of fun writing it. I'm sure Clement Moore rolled over in his grave more than once.
