steveberger 03-14-2005, 09:00 AM The rear splash guards are a must. Mine didn't come with them and within the first day a tremendous amount of road grit was visable above and behind the rear wheels. Would surely ruin the paint over time. Am having the guards added ASAP. About $55.00 plus installation.
Ravishol 03-14-2005, 04:20 PM Has anyone istalled these themselves?
This seems like it should be pretty easy. Do the screws come with the guards?
laserfan 03-14-2005, 09:52 PM Has anyone istalled these themselves?
This seems like it should be pretty easy. Do the screws come with the guards?Yes, it's very easy. No new screws needed (the existing screws are used) but a plastic piece that needs to be removed for each guard is sufficiently damaged in the process that Honda includes a couple of new ones to use as replacements.
I probably spent more time cleaning the area than mounting the guards. Fit perfectly, look nice, definitely should have come with them from the factory!
I am definitely going to get these with my truck.
Keoni 03-15-2005, 05:17 PM The plastic expansion plugs that come with the rear mud guards are longer to accomodate the thickness of the guard (using existing mounting hole that has a short plug in it by default, which is replaced with the longer one).
BTW, note that if you are planning on getting the fender flare kit, the mud flaps are different and COME WITH the fender flare kit (front AND rear!). At first I didn't like the flares...but they are starting to grow on me! The clean edge under the flare really makes for a neat and factory-installed look. Also not the that flares are only held on by pre-applied 3M double-stick tape. The only screws used are for the bottom of the flares that also have the mud flaps attached to them--and those use the factory mounting bolts under the fender. Nice! :D
Aloha,
Keoni
Heinrich 03-16-2005, 10:50 AM Yes, that is a good observation on the mud flaps...you will definitely want them if you get off road, or drive in on dirt roads at all!
Dktahg 03-16-2005, 12:29 PM Has anyone got any info on who has the flaps? Dealer doesn't know anything about it and H&A don't list it? I definitely want them and they keep the body in better shape of the evidence I saw on my T-100 I use to own and go off-roading.
delphi7x10 03-16-2005, 01:33 PM Dktahg,
Look at H & A, third item down for exterior.

Thanks. Brainfart on my part. Seems the picture is a new addition, but then again I didn't ever recall seeing the listing there.
toobill 12-09-2005, 05:08 PM I installed mine. It was very simple. You need a stubby phillips screw driver to remove two existing screws and a small flat blade screw driver to remove one plactic fastener. The kit comes with two replacement plastic fasteners. Very quick install.;)

A must have. I learned my lessons on other trucks. Because they sit a little higher they kick up a lot of dust. (Lower in the wheel wells) Just like sandpaper. Took a FORD right to the metal. Had mine since day one. Way cheaper than to fix the damage that will happen without them.
tlaudio 12-11-2005, 10:54 AM This has to be the easiest install I have ever done.
It should only take 5 min or less a side.....
I saw one dealer charging $195 installed for these! WOW!
I hate it when dealers add "accessories" on their own!
TL
Webwader 12-11-2005, 11:32 AM I saw one dealer charging $195 installed for these! WOW!
Wow! is right. $195-$65(MSRP for guards) = $135/4 = $33.75 per screw
That getting screwed royally.

Man Web, We're in the wrong business!!:D Huh!!? These pieces are a must have though.
Webwader 12-11-2005, 11:58 AM Right on both counts 5S. I don't understand why Honda didn't make them standard equipment. How much can they actually cost Honda? An attempt by Honda to reap more profit by making them an accessory?
swampler 12-11-2005, 12:32 PM Related only from the cost standpoint...I noticed while at the dealer Friday the towing package on the sticker of a demo RL was $999. Talk about a rip off. The towing package did include a drawbar, ball and locking pin for the drawbar. Still...
Webwader 12-11-2005, 01:16 PM noticed while at the dealer Friday the towing package on the sticker of a demo RL was $999.
I paid less than half of that for mine and I had them install the brake control for free besides.

Got mine thrown in to finalize the deal.
paguard 12-11-2005, 08:40 PM First accessory I added. It was a snap. A phillips head for the screws, and a standard slot screwdriver to pry out the plastic push-pins. They look great and I got on ebay for $40 shipped. Good luck.
oracledba 12-31-2005, 12:22 PM The splash guards were easy to install, however two of the screws ( you take out and re-use ) were too short once the new flaps were installed. I went to the Honda dealer and they gave me a couple of screws off a Civic that were a bit longer.
I noticed as i drove up into the mountains last weekend - and it was snowing pretty hard ) that there is some additional noise from the mudflaps as snow and slush come off the tires and hit them - somewhat noisy, but my RTL ate up that snow covered road as others were getting stuck. ( near Alta, Utah ).
BlackandTan 12-31-2005, 04:01 PM Yeah... Its so dumb that the rear are an option. I'm adding them too. Saw some on ebay for $45.
Dnick 01-02-2006, 08:43 PM You might approach the dealer with the on-line price. Some dealers will match & then you can have them right away. Also, the shipping premium will be a little higher per dollar for these, since they are pretty inexpensive to start with.
All of the screws fit just fine when I installed mine. This IS truly a 5 minute install.
vroom 01-14-2006, 12:05 PM Just installed these but the left rear has a bigger gap between the body and the guard than the other 3, about 1/8 in. Is this within specs or worth trying to get a replacement?
fightingmink 01-14-2006, 02:21 PM My first custom install. LOL.... The damn thing didn't come with instructions, but it was an easy install. Many more customs to come.

fightingmink 01-14-2006, 06:32 PM Thanks for the link... now the roof rack looks like it's do-able. :)
Snakey 01-14-2006, 10:28 PM I too can join the "I installed them myself club." I installed mine this afternoon in less than 5 mins! It's truly one of the installs that someone with no mechanical knowledge what-so-ever could easily accomplish.
My Ridge looks much better now as well as protecting my paint/sheet-metal from anything that might get kicked up.

Is that an Acura TL sitting next to your Ridgeline? Nice!!
fightingmink 01-15-2006, 07:17 AM Is that an Acura TL sitting next to your Ridgeline? Nice!!
It is... and thanks. It's my wife's and she wont let me touch it. It does need a couple things, like a 2inch drop and nice 20's... heh. Oh well, more for the ridge.
Nawlens Gator 01-25-2006, 10:41 AM Added rear splash guards yesterday. Nothing to it.
Looks to me like if you rolled over a curb, the guards might grt damaged.
When I first saw this thread, I ran outside to see if my Ridge had them or not. Of course it didn't but this seems like such a natural accessory that they should be offered as original equipment.
But I took care of this deficiency today. 5 minutes tops to install and the truck looks much more complete now.
sailfish 01-28-2006, 06:19 PM Hello They Are Very Very Easy To Install Be A Little Careful When You Remove The Plastic Clips (2) But The Kits Come With Replacments .30 Minute Job .you Will Need A Very Stuby Phillips Screw Driver Since Its Close To The Wheel And Claw Hammer To Seperate The Plastic Clips From The Body.
Cheers

Thanks Webwader. I just got my splash guards yesterday and noticed they only came with 2 clips. I figured H and A forgot to ship the other 2 clips. After looking at the URL you included, I see that each side only requires 1 clip. You saved me from an embarrassing email. They look simple enough to install. I'll probably put them on tonight.
GeNeRaL 06-04-2008, 07:44 AM Got mine thrown in to finalize the deal.
+1! I will sign the line once you add free rear splash guards, installed. Done. :)
BruceRTL 06-04-2008, 08:39 AM Good job!
I wish I would have thought of that. In fact I wish I would have found this web site before buying. It could have saved money and had more options. Live and learn I guess.....
Smokin Ace 06-06-2008, 02:14 PM I got a great deal price wise but I wish I would have noticed there is only guards on the front. I would have had them throw them in to seal the deal. like BruceRTL said live and learn. :)
Now I need to order up some rear guards. :(
maxdog12 06-08-2008, 12:50 PM I just installed the rear splash guards. The front splash guards have a rubber cover on the front. Was this cover supposed to come with the rear splash guards?
djeaux 06-08-2008, 01:39 PM I just installed the rear splash guards. The front splash guards have a rubber cover on the front. Was this cover supposed to come with the rear splash guards?
No. The rear splash guards don't have a cover like the front ones.
Smokin Ace 06-09-2008, 08:24 AM So I went back to the dealer, since I noticed 80% of the Ridgelines on the lot had the rear gaurds, and said why where mine not put on? The sales guys was useless and rude (figured) so I asked for the sales manager. After a long talk about how they should have been on at purchuse since most of the other trucks have them they said they would put them on free of charge right away. They then washed the truck. So I would say this turned out well. I guys I never even noticed they weren't there till this post. Thanks everyone. :)

Well done! That saved a few bucks. :)
Smokin Ace 06-09-2008, 09:54 AM That it did. I wish I would have caught it when I bought it though. Now back to looking into this Bad boy getting a hitch put on....

I bought my Curt's hitch in the west valley and had it installed at the same place. I can't think of the name right this instant. The whole thing was around $302. The place was just west of the 101 on Thunderbird and sits on the north side of the road. If you're interested, I'll dig up the actual name. I've used the hitch several times an I'm real happy with it.

No I got it back and with no scratches. And from what I can tell, she avoided the puddles - as instructed. :)
By the way Smokin, I got my hitch at:

Here's a picture I took this morning at my office using my Blackberry. Quality isn't that great but it should do the trick...
It sits back under the bumper pretty good.
Smokin Ace 06-10-2008, 08:05 AM yea it does and it looks good. I will have to call them up and see what they can do for me. Thanks a million for the info. :)

I can't get the top screw out, on either side. They just spin & spin but don't come out. The bottom screws remove fine. I'm gonna stop by the local dealer and try to get them to install them free - or at least remove the top screws and I'll finish it at home.
dopey621 09-16-2009, 12:30 AM Geoshale, speaking about mud guards, I just installed mine today (finally after 3 years of owning a RT). If the screws just keep spinning, try yanking it out while you spin. There's shouldn't be any reason why it won't come out now.

I plan to give it another try tomorrow.
Geoshale 09-18-2009, 09:23 PM What a headache... It took the dealer's mechanic 30 minutes to loosen the four screws. According to the mechanic, three of the screws were over tightened by the factory, stripping them. The mechanic left the screws loose and gave me extra screws & clips. I glad he did, one of the clips was tweaked and I had to replace it when I put the mud flaps on.
Anyways, its now done.
