While at my parents house the other day for dinner, we found my beloved Golden Retriever very quite, he is not usually this quite so my wife called him and he non-chalantley walked into the kitchen, there my wife seen he had something in his mouth, upon asking him to "drop it" which at first he did not want to do but eventually did, we realized that he had found my fathers bridge. He mangled the wire and chewed one of the false teeth. At first it was very funny but then we realized the cost involved, not so funny. The dentist said it was not an unusual thing, so I was wondering if anyone here has a dog that chewed something they weren't supposed too.

Oh yeah, the one year old akita we have has chewed through the trailer wiring twice already so my kid brother strung some extra wire around the frame just for her!! It's not what I'd had in mind to rectify her behavier but it is his dog.....

We've tried pepper, hot sauce and the usual remedies to no avail! I think she actually prefers the real hot sauce! :act024:

I don't have dogs anymore when I had to put my last one to sleep I said that was it. I am getting older & don't have the time to spend with them anymore.
I have lived in the same house all my life 49yrs & a dog was here when I was born.
We had one dog we had for 15yrs he was my childhood dog to young adult.
He ate my little Hot Wheels racing cars, shoes ect. But one time he ate a fishing sinker I forget the weight it was I still have it somewhere around in a little tin can. My father had his fishing stuff out & the dog must have started playing with the sinker. Well it went down his throat & we could not figure why the dog was laying around all the time & he would started to lay in the walk in shower in the basement the floor was cool to his belly. Got X Ray & the Vet doctor ask my father when was the last time he went fishing as a joke. The sinker was in him & my father payed big $$$ to get it out as they split the dog down his belly. The dog was in his younger years back then & lived a long life.
The last dog I had a Boxer would get mad when you would leave him home alone. I was told to get a cage/crate when I got him but others in the family said no big mistake. He ate stuff that was out of reach or stuff I thought he would not mess with. This would be the basement sofa & matching chair.
He also ate my playstation controler that was just 1 day old.
None of our other dogs we ever had this problem

As a young pup, about one year old, my Husky got into my baseball bag and chewed up a baseball. He destroyed the thing, the string was all over and the leather was gnarled to shreds.

About a week later we were on our usual bike ride through Boston as we did every morning and night. He runs at my side while I pedal my arse off and try to keep up. Well usually he did his business in the yard out front of my apartment AFTER our rides as he would not go on concrete.

Well right on Newbury street, in front of the prestigious Armani Cafe, with Ferrari's and Bugatti's out front, he SLAMS on the brakes to poop and yanks me clear off my bike. As I stumbled to my feet to figure out what the heck is going on, I see looks of sheer horror on the faces of the rich folks eating on the patio of the cafe. I look over and my Husk is spinning in a circle freaking out with two feet of string from the baseball hanging out of his butt.

Short story long, I got the string out and we finished our ride. I don't think those people finished their lunch though...

O man, where to start... We have a 2 year old boxer who seems to eat anything she can get ahold of. Starting out from the worst first.

1. She got ahold of a stocking that was hanging last christmas and ate just about all the candy in the stocking. She was pooping out tin foil for a couple days.

2. After thanksgiving last year, she ate a whole pecon pie durring the night.

3. Same year as the pecon pie, she also had a half of a pumpkin pie.

4. She knocked over a box of thumb tacks one time and I'm pretty sure she ate some.

5. She knocked over a glass once ended up cutting her lip and had a trail of blood all over the kitchen.

6. She also loves to eat stuffing out of her toy's. The other day she flew inside through her dog door and slid into the wall in the living room and was shaking. We were not sure what was wrong and upon looking at her butthole, there was half of a turn hanging there. The stufffing was almost braided inside her butt. My wonderfull wife grabed a paper towell and pulled it out. It was like 10" long. Very gross.

7. Almost all utincels have been chewed on. She loves paper towell roll's when she can get them. Also any bags that are left out, she tears to shreds.

The most amazing thing is she has never puked or acted sick after eating any of this stuff, even the chocolate in the stocking. She is finally slowing down a little but still crazy.

Funny story! I can relate, having pulled many a hanging dangler from my dogs over the years. Never in front of a bunch of rich people, however.

Karma is our current problem child. We found her on the side of the road. Who knows, maybe she went on a binge of destruction before getting dumped there. We found out the owners previous to the people who dumped her incurred about $2,000 worth of damage when she at their couch and various other things one very bad day.

She hasn't cost us quite that much but it's added up to many hundreds of dollars in damage. She destroyed a couple of remotes, a phone, many pairs of shoes, reading glasses, a watch, a citronella collar, dozens of toys (those we wish would last longer but never scold her about) and too many other things for me to remember. I couldn't guess how many boxes of Kleenex or rolls of TP she's destroyed. She ate a plastic jar of some carpentry glue but was just shy of punching through and making a huge mess with it. She ate the bottom out of a brand new bottle of Bitter Apple so we know that's no deterrent. The rubber boots in the photo are now a mere piece of the collar part of the boot. I've kept them around for her to have a target of something that's already ruined. She'll be good for weeks or even months and then she goes through a spell of being whacko again. One good thing is she's a destroyer, not an ingestor. I get the pleasure of cleaning up her messes, but that's better than emergency trips to the vet.

She has a habit of bringing things from all over the house to one big tear it up party place in the living room. The photo below reminded me of one thing I feel worse about being ruined. That willow basket was handmade by a friend of mine. I was sad about that.

Her latest fits have been when waiting in the truck, something that she's been fine with most of the time. She's eaten Tums, munched the container of lotion and hand sanitizer, and recently destroyed an umbrella. The one that made me laugh was what she did to Bigguy's shirt he was using for a light jacket. She shredded it while we were in Costco a couple of weeks ago.

Somehow, even though she's very naughty sometimes, we still love her dearly.

Mentioning the tp rolls and the stuffing from stuffed animals, Biscuit loves the cardboard rolls from tp or paper towels, when the roll is finished we give him the cardboard, he runs around the house chewing as he goes, We also get him a bunch of toys for Christmas, none seem to last more than 20 minutes, this pasted Christmas he got a blue rubber inner tube type of toy, one that you put treats into, so we did, he couldn't figure out how to remove the treat from the toy so he shredded the whole toy, but he did get the treats.

We have a Chow/German Shepard mix. She loves to eat shoes and for some reason hand tools that she can get a hold of. The worst thing she has done though was when I left her in the truck while I ran into the store. I was gone no more than 5 minutes and somehow she was able to get the passenger side visor and rip it off of the mount. The visor was up so I don't know how she got it rotated down to get a bite on it to pull. As I came back to the truck I thought it was odd that I couldn't see her looking out the window waiting for me. When I opened my door she was cowered down on the passenger side floorboard with the visor on top of her. She no longer has riding inside the truck privileges.

My Gordy has never been much of a chewer. He seems to know what's his and chews on his own stuff... mostly.

What he has done is become attached to my sneakers. I have a habit of just slipping them off without undoing the laces. His fondness for my sneakers is somewhat odd in that from day one he would find one of my sneakers bring it to his napping spot, rest his head on it and sleep.

When his wakes, he'll sometimes untie the knots. I don't know how he does it because I double-knot them. If for some reason he can't get them untied he'll chew them until he cuts his way through the lace.

He's only done it twice, so far.

Ah, that's charming. What a cute boy. He just wants to be close to something of yours.

He's a good boy, Pam. I really love him. Here's a photo of him taken on his first day home. He just loves my sneakers!

Last week, on the way to purchase some new snow boots for my step-son, I had the audacity to mention that I have had the same pair of Sorels for the last 20 years. Both my wife and he were quite impressed. Apparently Mr. Murphy was listening to the conversation as well. Three days later, one of the dogs decided that the fur trim on the top of one of the boots, as well as one of the laces didn't belong on the boots anymore and should be strewn about the garage. Note to self: Murphy is always listening...
