During the recent Sedona meet, I talked to a few people about getting together for a meet in Southern AZ, specifically Kartchner Caverns. I did some preliminary investigations and here's what I found.

The only time both "rooms" of the cave will be open is December through April. The "Rotunda/Throne Tours" run from mid December through early October, while the "Big Room Tours" are open from mid April through mid October.

Cost is $22.95 for Adults, 14+ and $12.95 for 7 to 13, younger than 7 is free.

There are about six hotels within a few miles of the caverns, ranging in price from $50 to $125 a night. There are also a few RV campgrounds nearby as well.

Discount pricing for large groups for the tours are not available, but discount coupons are out there, usually a buy one, get one free deal.

Right one I'm just putting this out there to see if there is any interest in this. If one of the moderators can put up one of those survey things at the top, that will give me an idea of how much time to put in to putting this together.

Given the time frames, we'd get better hotel pricing going in late June. Temps are in the mid to upper 80's and it's before the monsoon season, plus it would allow time for kids to get out of school.

Another time would be around Presidents Day weekend in February, but it might be more crowded.

Either way, please let me know what you think!

Judy and I are interested. Of all the places we've been in Arizona, we have never been to Kartchner Caverns.

As for dates, I'm not sure we care. If we are in town, we'll make it work!

Ester and Tucker are very interseted. Late June would be good as we will want to bring some California grandkids.

We have an interest - depending on when. Our vacation is June 23rd thru July 1st. If its before that last weekend of the month we will make a trip south for sure!

Looks like 7 trucks with maybe up to 20 people so far. I've asked Dan to help with putting together a poll for this or a new thread. For noW, my next step is to take a drive out to Benson to see what's available for accommodations. I'm thinking of going sometime in late June to get an idea how that might work and get some input from local businesses about discounts for the meet. Keep an eye on this link....more to come!
