I guess I screwed up. I was suppose to buy Hot Wheels Cars and Match Box Cars with the money not toys. I guess maybe I didn't read it correctly.
So forgive me for messing up the contest for us. :(

On the other hand, I think I like it better this way anyway. Had I not bought the toys, I would not have been able to give that dolly to that liitle girl. Fate maybe. :D
Maybe we could start our OWN tradition!!

No worries J.C.

It was a Toys4Tots drive not a Cars4Tots drive. When I saw the post from T-Mac earlier I scratched my head and wondered what he was talking about.

Was Matchbox matching all donations, unlikely. Why should we funnel all of this good will to their bottom line.

Anyway I think the ROC way covers more interests. Not all kids like little toy cars.

I just expressed similar sentiments (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=53124&postcount=25) in another thread, although not as eloquently as you did, swampler. ;)

LR, I'm glad you used my donation to buying a variety of toys. I also thought it was weird that it was all supposed to be matchbox cars. Boys and girls like them, but not all boys or girls or all ages. I vote for doing our own drive next year.

Thanks for "screwing up" LadyRidge. I didn't realize either that the toys had to be Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars. If I had, I would have been much less enthusiastic about the drive. Needy kids need something more than a little metal toy to make their Christmas special.

What's the big deal.... IT'S FOR THE KIDS.
Thanks JC.

My sentiments exactly.

The point of the contest being Matchbox or HotWheels is because the only participants in the contest are automotive enthusiast web communities. The idea is to spread our love for cars to the kids. I can sure remember a beat up, old, black van I used to drive in the dirt every single day and I really became a car fan at an early age.

Regardless of what we do as a group in 06, I just wanted to clear up why the contest narrows down what the toys need to be.

I'm really amazed by the overall car count in this year's toy drive. I'm equally proud of our ROC for the work you did and the smiles that will be on so many kids faces in the coming days. Great job, gang!

Thanks so much for being a part of the ROC - one of the fastest growing automotive enthusiast sites with about 100 new members or more a week!

Thanks for the explanation. That makes more sense.

I'm sure glad the contest wasn't being run by a gun club. :D

I bet the Los Angeles chapter would win. New York would come in a close 2nd.

Wow - I guess I figured toys were just that - toys! I can see the logic behind the purchasing of the matchbox/hotwheels cars, though. I'm am very glad you had a doll for that little girl, LadyRidge. It was fate. You were meant to be there and we were meant to have donated the funds to help make it possible.

I believe there's a ryme-to-reason for everything we do in life. I gave because I read the Ladyridge thread asking for support. What was to become of the donation isn't up to me...that would be Ladyridge actions. I think she did well, and it was stated earlier that this for kids (which consist of both genders). I want to wish everyone in ROC Happy Holidays.

I didn't know about the car part of the contest until it was over. Donations made to Toys For Tots was just exactly that. The toy car part of the competition was for our fun and enjoyment with the proceeds going to a worthy cause. If there was any misunderstanding or miscommunication along the way, it simply doesn't matter. There's always next year. If the inter-site contest got sidetracked, so what, the kids that received a truckload of toys came out way ahead. The donations made to the Toys For Tots by ROC members was for a more serious cause than any contest results and what we thought was going to happen did happen. No harm, no foul. Mission accomplished. Well done! If next year we want to do things differently and involve the toy car competition, so be it. As for this year, once again LadyRidge, you put it all together and made it happen! Thank you, again! :)
I do have some thoughts, ideas and concerns for whatever we do for next year. Time doesn't permit me to go into detail at this point. I also would like to keep the idea alive and work on putting together a solid plan for next year. Perhaps after the holidays when things are still fresh in our minds but we have some more time we can pool our resources and put it together.
