Todd spent 5 years in Atlanta while his Dad traveled with an insurance group around the states. He ( Todd ) told me last night that everyone in Georgia or at least Atlanta says "COKE" for any type of soda. Do they still do that??
Curious minds want to know.:D

I say "Coke" and I mean you better bring the real thing. Go out west and they say we have "Pepsi" and I say nevermind I will have water.

It ain't just Georgia. In the South we have orange coke, grape coke, 7-up coke, etc. Been that way a long time. I have heard this many times when someone is ordering a soft drink, "what kind of coke's do you have". No different than asking for soda or pop! All the same thing.

And I'm one in a million Northerners who don't call it "Pop"..I call it "Soda". I don't call people by their last name why should I do it with Soda Pop?? :D

Is that how they came up with 'Vanilla Coke" and "Cherry Coke" and "Lime Coke"? :)

I did my ER residency at Emory and there was Coca Cola everywhere. The World of Coca Cola tour is excellent. You can try various products that the Coca Cola Company sells abroad. Some are very good and some are simply awful!

Of course, now my wife and are hooked on Coke Zero!

I have eaten at the Candler Cafe in Atlanta. Supposedly, it was the first place that Coca Cola was served.

My wife always reminds me that a pharmacist invented the formula for Coca Cola.:D

Funny thing JC, I grew up in Akron, OH... we used Coke for everything (Coke, 7-up, pepsi, etc).

Now I live in MN... it is Pop here. But in Wisconsin it is Soda.

Crazy world, eh?

All soda's here in the southeast are "Cokes". What is the best is that when you are asked "Do you want a Coke?" you respond: "Yes" and then the waitress says: "What Kind" and you say: "Mountain Dew".

LOL :D

I'm waiting for caffiene-free diet Coke with Splenda. Can't have caffiene anymore and Splenda is much better than Aspartame. All the varieties have their niche or they wouldn't keep making them. Remember New Coke?

Coke Zero actually has .7 calories. I guess if its below one, it's zero.

Well, I got a few minutes to check back in, at my Lady's request. She told me about this thread. Funny how you remember things. I was 10 years old when we moved to Atlanta. I still remember being in a restaurant and asking for a Coke, and being asked "what kind?" Of course back then your choices were much more limited: regular, diet,..... .................................................. ..................... Tab, Pepsi, Orange Soda, Root Beer, Mountain Dew, etc. I also remember going into grocery stores and seeing the soft drink isle dominated, I mean DOMINATED by Coca Cola. 90% of the isle was red and white. I guess that's to be expected when you're in Coca Cola's back yard.

Arteegee, I do remember "New Coke" after a while it became "Coke II" I believe.

And just to see how small the world is, DoctorJ and DatSumbch, I used to live about 10 miles down the road, in Lilburn.

On another note:
Hey Oddjob, how'd you get your screen name, you a James Bond fan?

Tried to make it more Pepsi-like, thinking Coke was out of style. The moral: Don't fix it if it ain't broke. Coke Classic was born.;)

Ya that was the best... my sister was the soda jerk at the local drugstore, and I would end up there every nite after football practice for a big ol' fountain-made vanilla coke! (with an extra pump!) They were the best.... eventually I just had vanilla and soda, no coke... I think otherwise known as cream soda.

After reading this thread, I have this vision of all you folks scattered all around the country this evening, sittin and chatting, sipping a tall ice cold glass of coke...!

....I'm thirsty...

Can you get Dite Rite soda? It has Splenda in it.

I can get Diet Coke with Splenda but it has Caffiene. Haven't seen Diet Rite in years here. Caffiene-free iced tea with Splenda (made by me) is great. Ever try to order iced tea in New England? That's another story. Kind of like ordering grits.

Small towns in Wisconsin say POP
Larger towns say SODA

I say Soda....

What do you ask when you are looking for a drink of water??
What about those WATER FOUNTAINS??
No I don't care to throw pennies in them or swim in them...

Just give me a BUBBLER!!

:)

We seem to be mostly soda in the NW. Although there are a lot of us that just cut to the chase and ask for the beverage by name, Pepsi, Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, etc.

My husband's family lives in Manitowoc (which I would not consider larger... although it is larger than our current home town of 13K) and they say pop. What is the cutoff in town size ;)

I know what a bubbler is, but only because of my husband's family!

Hmmm good question!!
Not sure if it is town size or farm size!!
:)

I love the look on faces when you ask a store clerk "Where is the BUBBLER?"

:D

Grew up in Philly and you asked for your choice by name or called it a soda.

Moved to Memphis for four years and no matter what you wanted you had to ask for a coke then clarify which type.

Now living in western PA and people call it pop.

I remember having a vistor at the house and my wife asked if he would like a coke? He replied yes and my wife poured him a glass of Dr Pepper "coke". Interesting facial expression upon his first sip.
