: Ridgeline Awards
Hi,
Just a suggestion, but how about a "permanent" thread that lists the awards the Ridgeline has received? I tried to post something in the Reviews section, but I don't have access.
Awards could be added to that particular thread as they became available. I know that awards are mentioned all over this board, but it might be nice to have them all listed in one place. It would make it easier for prospective buyers to see all the awards in one place...and confirm the wisdom of our purchase! :)
Thank you,
Truckin' 12-22-2005, 08:58 PM I think that's a fine idea. I know there is concern about being too many categories. I like the logic you use about it being a showcase for newbies to explore. It's bound to be chuck full.
Webwader 12-22-2005, 09:40 PM So far on here I have seen awards from the following:
Motor Trend
Autobytel
AJAC (Automotive Journalists Association of Canada)
San Jose Mercury News
I also found one on the web: On Wheels Magazine which gives the Urban Wheels Award at the Detroit Auto Show.
We had better get these organized before we are buried in awards. :D

Exactly Webwader. I think the Detroit News rated the Ridge as the number one truck as well. Wonder what that will do to their circulation. :)
fins2theright 12-23-2005, 08:59 AM Detroit Auto news TOTY too.

Webwader 12-23-2005, 10:14 AM I was cruising some other forums and found that the RL was named truck of the year be Maxim magazine. I don't know if we should add that one or not. :D
mayfielh 12-23-2005, 12:57 PM Only if the pictures come with the post.
I was talking about the RL pictures, so get your minds out of the gutter. :p
truckfan 12-23-2005, 03:49 PM Good idea!
You can add the JD Power & Associates 2005 APEAL award for the Honda Ridgeline as the most appealing mid sized truck, that I posted yesterday in the Misc. section.

bbnmcas 12-24-2005, 04:46 PM I know this is not an "award", but don't forget that Honda upgraded the warranty to a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty. That says something in itself.

Awesome work there Ridge, As usual!
milehigh 01-10-2006, 10:49 AM Someone ought to post this in a few of those RL-bashing truck sites and then watch the fireworks.
RidgeOwner3 01-10-2006, 11:12 AM Hey I've got one for you, Ridge...
Autoweb.com had an article that said the Ridgeline is "the perfect tailgaters" vehicle and had it as part of their Top Ten Tailgaters. I don't think they actually ranked them 1-10, though. (OK, I found it!)
http://www.autoweb.com/content/shared/articles/templates/index.cfm/article_page_order_int/7/article_id_int/800
"The cool quotient: Many things are cool about this new truck from Honda, starting with the exterior design. Yes, it’s different, and kinda weird – but that’s a good thing, especially when everyone else is driving a Chevy. Best of all, the bed has a sealed trunk under the floor, easy to get to and perfect to stow your refreshments.
Passenger capacity: Seats five, plus at least three Patriot/Dolphin fans in the aforementioned in-bed trunk area.
Cargo space: Up to 41.4 cu. ft. with the second - row seat folded.
Sound system: A 100-watt AM/FM/CD stereo with six speakers is standard, or you can step up to a 160- watt system with a six-disc in-dash CD changer with seven speakers, including a subwoofer. Also available is XM satellite radio, an MP3 auxiliary jack and Honda’s DVD Entertainment System – so little Mary can watch Sleeping Beauty while you’re playing a game of catch or swilling down a brew.
Practicality: Look up practical in the dictionary, and there it is – a Ridgeline, smiling at you with its multi-use tailgate that can swing out or down, a tough composite bedliner, and that wonderful in-bed trunk – for soda pop and such.
Extras: Front and rear seating areas have 12-volt outlets and the rearview mirrors fold in, a nice bit of protection in a crowded parking lot. Perhaps best of all, the Ridgeline is pre-wired to tow a trailer. And if you’re really into the tailgating life, you have a trailer – and, thus, should drive the perfect tailgater’s car."

NOV. 21 - At the annual Automotive Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) 2005 Innovation Awards Program, held November 16, Honda was awarded the evening's highest honor - the Grand Award - for the Ridgeline's Composite In-Bed Trunk. I heard about that one, but I don't think we went there for the buffet, just to watch the water in front. That was neat!
Hey, I'll let you know when we're going there again and maybe we can meet up. There's so much smog there, though, and my skin was rashing from the harsh water after a week. I almost didn't want to go back. We were going to go there soon for a conference for work, but it got canceled.
I got your note last week. Hope you guys are doing well, and say hi to Karyn!

Have you tried the bellagio breakfast buffet? You can't say that unless you've tried the Bellagio breakfast buffet. How are they different? My God, the Bellagio serves the best french toast I've ever had. It should come with a warning label.
Warning: Eating one piece of this french toast may cause you to eat french toast until dead.
Lucky for me the lunch buffet started and they took it away.
MontanaFred 01-16-2006, 07:39 PM Ridgeline wins Strategic Vision's coveted "Most Delightful" compact pickup award.
Strategic Vision measures the experience of approximately 90,000 new vehicle owners annually. The survey has been done since 1996. Because of the nature of the factors measured, the results give the industry actionable information about multiple issues, including (a) building better vehicles, (b) communicating more effectively, (c) increasing sales opportunity, (d) creating strong brand image, (e) creating loyalty, and (f) assessing success and failure of strategy. GM product, not problems, and multiple levels of success are foremost.
Strategic Vision Announces Most Delightful Vehicles of 2005 (http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/home/index.jsp?epi-content=GENERIC&newsId=20060116005175&ndmHsc=v2*A1134824400000*B1137494042000*DgroupByDa te*J2*L1*N1000837*Zhonda%20ridgeline&newsLang=en&beanID=202776713&viewID=news_view)
Strategic Vision directly measures Customer Delight, which assesses the customers' responses to specific aspects of their vehicles, capturing the strength of the emotional response to what the vehicle delivers. The Edwards Customer Delight Scale(R) measures those responses. Scores range from 0-1000 depending on how comprehensively a vehicle delivers against the customers' specific needs. The top of the scale explicitly measures "Delight." A Customer Delight Index(TM) for 2005 was calculated from the responses of over 90,000 new vehicle owners who made their purchases between September 2004 and April 2005. They have owned their vehicles for at least 90 days, and the primary driver of the vehicle was surveyed.
Some of the winners in their class:
Compact Pickup Honda Ridgeline 612
Full-Size Pickup Nissan Titan 605
Heavy-Duty Pickup GMC Sierra 2500/3500 529
The Ridgeline was only available for a few months out of the survey period of Sept 2004 and April 2005. I wonder if that affected the results.

MontanaFred 01-17-2006, 06:54 PM Thanks Ridge. I think I saw your post over there, good job.
It doesn't appear that the "Most Delightful" awards get the kind of press that Motor Trends and the NAIAS Truck of the Year awards got but I think it is appropriate that the Ridge won "Most Delightful" in the compact pickup class. It seems the poll here showed owners were mostly delighted.:p

MontanaFred 02-25-2006, 08:25 AM I never heard of the Zoomies Awards but the Ridgeline just won the Zoomies Best New TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!
Best new truck: Hands down, the Honda Ridgeline is the best new brawny pickup. It looks a bit too much like the Chevy Avalanche to me, but still is strong enough to haul a big load or pull a trailer while being quiet inside. The fact that Honda came up with a lockable trunk in the truck's bed, well, that's priceless! Others will surely follow, but this isn't a market where you really want to be a follower.

2006 winners fuse looks, value and performance
By MARK SAVAGE
Special to the Journal Sentinel
Posted: Feb. 25, 2006
It's car show season again, and here come the 2006 Zoomies, the award so hot, we give it out in February, just to keep it from sizzling too much.
You'll recall that each February Zoomie gives out awards to the top cars and trucks that have been tested in the past 52 weeks. That's not all the new models out there, because a few don't make it to the southeastern Wisconsin market until after our cutoff date.
Remember, too, that while we'd all like a Ferrari in the driveway, Zoomie aims to give top prize to a car or truck that most of us could afford without mortgaging our house, cashing in the kids' college savings or text-messaging the devil.
The top Zoomie goes to a vehicle that delivers good styling, good value and generally delivers the moral equivalent of fun, even when parked.

Have not tried Bellagio's Buffet But I have been to Paris' Dinner buffet and it is also first rate. Love the Crepe bar. Will try Bellagio's when I hit Vegas in September
Since this is a Ridgeline awards post though Last night Ridgeline won the First Annual " Razorfist award for kicking ass in a New England Snowstorm" Next football season it should win the "Razorfist Ultimate tailgate award" In the Holds a ton of beer in the trunk Category. Seriously I have had it a week and All my friends who see it are very impressed. One of them wants to trade in his CRV for one. Ridgeline definitely deserves all the awards.

MontanaFred 03-09-2006, 06:25 PM If this is the place to comment on Ridgeline awards I just noticed that AAA chose the Ridgeline as their TOP PICKUP!!! Oddly they did not pick the Honda Civic for top car but this is the Ridgeline Owners forum so we can still celebrate. :)
AAA picks the Ridgeline as their TOP PICKUP TRUCK!!! (http://minivans.autoblog.com/2006/03/09/aaa-top-car-picks-for-2006/)
AAA looked at more than 200 vehicles and chose winners in 13 categories based on criteria like ride, performance, braking, handling, cargo space, value and fuel economy.
Having been involved in the plastics industry for the past 27 years, I sometimes come across things about innovations in plastics "buried" on the web in the form of .pdf's.
Recently I spied the following details about the prestigious "SPE Grand Award" for the impressive composite In-Bed Trunk and the "top award in the Body Exterior category" :
TROY (DETROIT), MICH. – The most prestigious prize of the 35th-anniversary SPE(16)
Innovation Awards Gala – the Grand Award – was given to the team that developed the
composite In-Bed Trunk(17) featured on the ’05 MY Honda(18) Ridgeline pickup truck. The
integrated storage system molded from sheet-molding compound (SMC) composite provides
8.5 cubic feet of easily accessible, lockable, weather-tight stowage. It can hold toolboxes,
luggage, or up to 3 sets of golf clubs, and doubles as an in-bed ice chest (with integral drainage
plug). With an 1,100-pound carrying capacity and integral tie downs, the rugged trunk offers
better durability and slip resistance than conventional systems and is rustproof. Additionally, the
trunk offers a weight savings of 30% vs. steel, and its 7-piece construction replaced over 100
steel parts while greatly enhancing manufacturability, assembly, and durability. In fact, this truly
innovative application achieves levels of component integration that would not be feasible in
sheet metal for reasons of cost, mass, and manufacturability. Meridian Automotive Systems was
the systems supplier for this application; tooling was supplied by Century and Global Tooling
Systems; and the materials suppliers included Ashland Chemical, Saint-Gobain, and Rohm &
Haas. In addition to the Grand Award, the application also won the top award in the Body
Exterior category.

16 SPE is a trademark of the Society of Plastics Engineers International.
17 In-Bed Trunk is a trademark of Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
18 Honda is a trademark of Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
...just a side note... isn't it interesting that Honda trademarked "In-Bed Trunk"? I guess that's just another benefit of innovative thinking! :)
Steve Smith 03-14-2006, 07:55 AM One of the companys listed ( the last one listed for the actuall material that the bed interior is made from), was Rohm & Haas. I frequently pass by that plant. About 10 miles from here. Guess I'll think of their contribution every time I drive by there in the future:cool:
So, Just how big of a display board are we gonna need to list ALL the Ridge's awards when we show up for the big get together in Ohio this July?!:D
Eaglesno1 07-12-2006, 10:52 AM Another award for the RL

Cajun Country Ridgeline 07-12-2006, 06:41 PM Today on MSN Autos It was announced "FOR THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW, THE HONDA RIDGELINE SCORED HIGHEST AMONG MIDSIZE TRUCKS IN THE J.D. POWER ANS ASSOCIATES APEAL STUDY".
There are 19 APEAL vehicle category winners for 2006 and
HONDA RIDGELINE was the Midsize Pickup Catagory.
:D :D
MontanaFred 07-15-2006, 03:52 PM This isn't exactly an award but the Ridgeline made the LIST of trucks that get 20+ MPG. I can attest to that since I got an average of 22 MPG over my last 8 tanks of gas. :p
2007 2006 Pickups That Get 20+ MPG (http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/07/14/014806.html)
An interesting new entry in the pickup class is the Honda Ridgeline, the first pickup designed more for personal use than work. It's also the first pickup with car-like unibody construction and four-wheel independent suspension. So far it's the only pickup so built, but it may not be the last.
MontanaFred 07-15-2006, 04:16 PM This award is to Honda but the article does mention the Ridgeline - they call it "trend setting".
Honda Becomes First Ohio Company to Achieve Top Environmental Certification (http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2006/07/13/014624.html)
Honda's facility uses water and energy conservation systems as well as emissions reducing tactics. One application that helped the building achieve Gold certification is an air conditioning system that generates cool air using an ice chilling system that is a more efficient and less costly, and has the capacity to cool additional buildings in the future. In addition to energy-savings, the central plant employs emissions-reducing tactics. The emergency generator, for example, is operated using bio-diesel, a plant-based renewable fuel source, which reduces emissions up to 75 percent when compared to mineral-based diesel.
Recent development efforts include trend-setting products like the Acura MDX and TL sedan, Honda Ridgeline, Pilot and Element, and the all-new Civic Coupe and Civic Si.
This isn't exactly an award but the Ridgeline made the LIST of trucks that get 20+ MPG.
Yes, but what's interesting is that the trucks they list are the "compact" trucks and are 2WD...the Ridge is a larger truck and has 4WD. :)
hondarig 09-08-2006, 10:23 PM Exactly Webwader. I think the Detroit News rated the Ridge as the number one truck as well. Wonder what that will do to their circulation. :)
The key to Honda design is that it offer carlike ride and modern structure for those sensible people aware of wath they really need for hauling their boat or trailer. By the way, unitized ladder frame and chassis was introduced by jeep under the patented design dubed UNIFRAME.
hondarig 09-08-2006, 10:33 PM Hi,
Just a suggestion, but how about a "permanent" thread that lists the awards the Ridgeline has received? I tried to post something in the Reviews section, but I don't have access.
Awards could be added to that particular thread as they became available. I know that awards are mentioned all over this board, but it might be nice to have them all listed in one place. It would make it easier for prospective buyers to see all the awards in one place...and confirm the wisdom of our purchase! :)
Thank you,
Number 1 award:

2. Long term sructural stiffness yet to be proven
3. Rear independant suspension design to be question for REAL capability
4. Good for short time lease.
5. Second owner will tell the truth

I see the Ridgeline is in the class of company it should be in. :)
Impressive list.

Yet another...
J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) released today. (http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/news/releases/pressrelease.aspx?ID=2009108)
The Initial Quality Study serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. The study is used extensively by manufacturers worldwide to help them design and build better vehicles and by consumers to help them in their vehicle purchase decisions. Initial quality has been shown over the years to be an excellent predictor of long-term durability, which can significantly impact consumer purchase decisions. The study captures problems experienced by owners in two distinct categories design-related problems and defects and malfunctions.
Some "snippets"...
StoneRidge07 06-23-2009, 06:22 AM This is great to see. Cheers to the Honda Ridgeline team and their owners.
Tcape 06-23-2009, 07:43 PM Top this off with Consumer Reports rating the Honda Ridgeline as the best value in a mid-size pickup. The recognition just keeps on comin'. Obviously, no one on this forum is surprised. :p

Strategic Vision's 2009 Total Quality Award Winners (http://www.strategicvision.com/auto_segmentwinners.php?year=2009&award=TQA&seg=17)
For American Honda Motors, the Honda Ridgeline and Odyssey lead their segments with delightful capability and overall flexibility in each of the models. Both models show innovation that produces leadership. Odyssey became a leader among minivans when it offered the most innovative product in its segment years ago. Ridgeline burst onto the scene as Truck of the Year with innovation unmatched by competition in its segment. Although Ridgeline’s price has kept sales below that of competitors, those who buy it often report that they are delighted with almost every aspect. The innovation and delight delivered by each of these leaders lead owners to state that their next vehicle will be a Honda.
2007 (http://www.strategicvision.com/auto_segmentwinners.php?year=2007&award=TQA&seg=32) and 2008 winner, too! (http://www.strategicvision.com/auto_segmentwinners.php?year=2008&award=TQA&seg=32)
Is there a comprehensive list of ALL the awards that the Ridgeline has won - with their respective links? A buddy of mine needs a full-fledged kick-in-the-butt. (I don't want it to be "half-assed".) ;)

Some snippets from around the web...
The APEAL Study examines how gratifying a new vehicle is to own and drive, based on owner evaluations of more than 90 vehicle attributes. The 2009 APEAL Study is based on responses gathered between February and May 2009 from more than 80,900 purchasers and lessees of new 2009 model-year cars and trucks who were surveyed after the first 90 days of ownership.
Short for Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout, APEAL basically shows what buyers like about their cars versus J.D. Power's Initial Quality Survey that shows what's gone wrong.
Honda models receiving awards are the Odyssey and Ridgeline. Both took the top spots in their categories for the fifth consecutive year.
The Odyssey and Ridgeline are the only two models to rank at the top of their class in both APEAL and Power's latest Initial Quality Study (IQS), which was released last month.

Where do you guys think would be the best place to look for rear-window decals of the individual awards that the Ridgeline has won over the years?
If I could get the majority of them... I, for one, would display them there - along with my ROC decal. :)
Then, for sure I'd have to look into installing a rear-view camera! :D
Ya s'pose writing/emailing Strategic Vision, J.D. Power, Motor Trend, etc, etc... would be a possibility?

I would bet that North American Honda Marketing would have decals of the awards. and might be happy to give a few out. If they don't have any, It would explain why the Ridgeline is not selling like the winner that it is. ( that would be the same stealth marketing that some of my previous employers used to go out of business ).

Good idea! If/when I look into it, I'll pass along the info. I might not be the only one nutty enough to plaster them on my window. :p
