The (New) boss calls me up to the office and hands me my termination papers on Dec 6th....says I don't fit in the future plans of the company..blah blah blah. I am the last of the old gang. It all started with my boss 8 months ago and one by one we were marked for extermination.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel, I landed a new job today after 10 days of sending out resumes and networking. I am moving to Vancouver to start my new job in 2 weeks. My family will follow this summer after my kids finish school.

WOW.... what a kick in the u-know-whats! I wish there were more ROCers here in the middle of the night to wish you well. Sounds like you worked out an alternative in very short order, however! You obviously have something going for you to be able to complete a transition like this within a month!
Since you are from Alberta, I'm sure you mean Vancouver, BC. (We have another Vancouver here in WA state USA.) It's a great city, although I do not visit often.
I'm sorry to hear about the sudden change of direction in your life, it is always upsetting to get ripped out of your comfort zone and forced to re-establish a new one. If that is the way your old company is going to do business, then you will no doubt be better off somewhere else.... Easy for me to say, right? :o
I wish you and your family the best of luck going forward. I'm only an hour south of Van, BC, so let me know if you want to have a mini-meet just to pass the time.
Tell us about your new opportunity.....

Good luck with the move and new job. Even though it may not seem so now, based on my experiences of the last 50 years, you might just someday look back and see this as a blessing. Keep the faith! :)

Congrats and good luck on the new job. Hopefully a year from now when you look back on this you will be much better off.

CBRJ - sounds like you've got a good attitude about the change. the time away from family will be tough (how far from one place to another?) - but at least you didn't stay unemployed too long. Good luck with the move, and make sure to take time for the family.

Stinks to lose your job just before Christmas. However, you did get a new job in good time and hopefully this one will kick the pants off your last one.
Good luck with your new job. It going to be tough to be away from your family for that length of time I would think :(

Very sorry about the last position, and right before the holidays!
Family upheaval is always a chore, but with the right planning and focus can be fun, educational and bring you all together - even closer.
Best of luck in your new position. You obviously are a person in high demand to have landed a new job so fast! Congratulations!
Keep us posted.

Thanks for all the support and my family and I wish all ROC members a great holiday season. Once I get to Vancouver, BC and buy myself a new PC, I will get to reading and posting with all you fine folk again....

Companies and corporations are so heartless. It is standard practice to lay people off in December. I'm pleased that you secured a new position so quickly. Good luck on your move and your new job.

I WISH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY THE BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR NEW VENTURE.
SOMETIMES CHANGES ARE FOR THE BEST. IN 1965 I WORKED FOR A COMPANY FOR 5 YEARS AND THEY STARTED MAKING CHANGES AND CLOSING BRANCHES. I LEFT AND WENT TO WORK FOR A MEDICAL DIAGNOSTICS COMPANY IN JAN.1971, I RETIRED FROM THERE IN MAY OF 2005.
SOMETIMES CHANGE IS GOOD!
HAVE A SAFE AND VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Vancouver is a great city. Born and raised Vancouverite here. I live 25 miles east of Vancouver now and miss the city. I go into town every weekend to visit my mom. You'll love Vancouver. Very cosmopolitan and the ethnic mix here is a great experience. Best restaurants, peeler bars (did I just say that?), skiing, watersports, great scenery, mild weather........ not that Alberta is boring.
Good to hear the family is not moving until school is out. Nothing worse than disrupting a child's education.

Count me in. Three Ridgelines is better than two.

Hi CBRidgeJockey, There is light at the end of the tunnel! Never look back! We wish you all the best moving forward...
Happy Holidays! You'll do fine. Best of luck in your new future.

Agreed (though I wasn't raised there, I'm from the Boston, Ma. area) that place is amazing. I lived there for ~6 months for a past job and it was someplace I would consider spending the rest of my life in no doubt.
And despite whats in the six now, I'd say you're very lucky and best of luck with your future endeavours. As long as you're happy doing what you want to be doing and you can have your family there, the 'where' isn't so important anyways.
Good luck http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif
