OK, so I was a little bored and exploring around a bit. I noticed the (new to me) Quick Link to "Member Map" (see attached for what the pulldown looks like).

Frapper ( Short for "Friend Mapper") seems to be a Google hack? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Anyway - it is similar to the work Lingered_I & SixOpRidge have been doing with Google Earth.

T Mac posted a link to it here. (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3862&highlight=frappr)

Yes, I saw the post T-Mac made. I'm delighted to have the member list back. But Frappr?

I asked a question about this on the post your zip code thread, but I don't think it's been responded to yet. It probably wasn't the best place to post.

I want to know what the heck Frappr is and why it should take the place of the work Lingered_I and SixOp have been doing. I still can't see Google earth unless someone else posts it. I hope they get the Mac version done soon. But I have been able to look at the ROC stars map. There's a lot more ROCers posted on GE than on Frappr. This seems like a version of reinventing the wheel. I'm not impressed with the link to Frappr.

Why switch?

A leaked version (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1408) of GE for the Mac was doing the rounds about 3 weeks ago, but I think Google got it pulled. It looks like you might not have long to wait.

Here's (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20124) a page to bookmark.

Thanks, L_I, I've just been going to the GE web page every week to see if it's been announced yet.

So do you have a clue about the Frappr link or are you just being tactful in not replying to that part of my inquiry?

I think you and SixOp took on a pretty large task and have done a fine job. It's been fun to watch the maps fill up. Thanks for your work.

I figured T Mac has his reasons. It is a platform independent / non-3rd party software solution. I'll be interested to see how long Google let Frappr live. I suspect they'll either kill it or buy it.

OOps -

Sorry - I searched "Frapper" not "Frappr" so I didn't find TMac's announcement. Sorry.

Lingered_I & SixOpRidge - I did not post this to in any way belittle the work the two of you have been doing. I also have wondered why the duplication of work when you two have been doing this mapping for so long (and I have the same issue of there not being a Mac version of GE).

Admins: Feel free to kill this thread if need be.

I'd like my question about the switch to Frappr answered before the thread gets killed. I can't see the point of starting another map. I'm grateful to SixOp and L_I for the work they've done and the duplication they've done so we Mac people can view it. Why move to Frappr? Who is adding the members? If it's superior, what makes it so?

SixOp came up with the idea of logging everyone's location, and I took the next step of using GE, but it was all without T Mac's involvement. or even acknowledgement. Frappr is not so much a switch, but is the first forum (T Mac) sponsored solution.
In terms of bells and whistles, GE is hard to beat, but it does require a download and install. SixOp's solution requires that you buy the MS Streets & Maps software. Frappr is free and available to all. Unfortunately Frappr doesn't offer an upload function as I can easily export the member list from GE. As mentioned above, I also think that Frappr may be on shakey ground. They rely completely on Google Maps. Any technology change or an end of Google's good will could put them out of business.

Google Earth is so much better - the 3D rotation and zooming is fun for hours.

I did a search on the member list for ", GA" and found that there are 10 members listed in GA. Sadly only two show up on Frappr (http://www.frappr.com/hondaridgelineownersclub)

Come on Georgia, get Frappered!
