RTL Security System

I've had my silver RTL Ridgeline since mid-October (4,400 miles with no problems). But, at 0200 this morning the alarm system sounded. I went out in my PJ's, unlocked and relocked the beast and went back to bed. At 0210, it alarmed again (waking all the neighbors). Again, no thieves or crooks in the vicinity. I babysat the thing until 0400 (not wanting to disconnect the battery), went to bed and at 0830 it alarmed again. Took it to the dealer this morning, and they called me late today to say they could find no errant code or reason for the spurious emission. They kept the beast to see if they can determine the cause of the alarm. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what was the cause? (The truck has been in heavy snow, heavy rains, sleet, sunlight and extremely cold weather with no previous problems!) Thanks in advance!

I have had mine since March 2nd and I have never had it go off accidentally. That's strange.

Agreed...that is very strange! The only thing I can think of is - a stray mouse??? Never know!

My old caddy acted up like that when it was somewhat damp...good luck!

Ask them to do a thorough battery check, or replace it just because...

Why a battery check? The battery is working good! Starts the truck good at 22 degree F.

Hi tricycleone, Have you had all of the water leak fixes done to your Ridge yet? Maybe the system is shorting out due to the heavy rains.

Mine doesn't seem to be leaking. However, I do have a musty smell when the A/C and heater kicks in. The dealer is aware of the water problem and is probably looking into it right now.

OK, got the truck back today and they could find nothing wrong with the system following the normal checks. They suggested as a WAG, that perhaps someone's garage door opener or an errant satellite caused the problem. So, the mystery continues. Got rid of the musty smell. Still no leaks.

It happened on my Saab a while ago. I called it “anti-owner” security system.

The only thing I found on my RL is, when I arm her I saw the security system indicator (the red LED light) is blinking. That means she is properly armed. But when I returned I saw the LED light stopped blinking even all doors are properly locked. I will continue monitor this and will contact dealer if necessary.

According to the service writer they apparently disinfected the HVAC system. I have no clue what that means. However, there is no musty smell remaining. I'm confused as well. But, it is better than before. Not only that, the carpet is dry -------- YESSSSSSSS!

I think he means it has no leaks so he's happy that there are no leaks. At least that's what I understood it to mean. I could be wrong.

So did this cost you anything extra? Maybe I should have them disinfect mine as well. I hate that musty smell.

Truck's under warranty so it was free. Don't have a clue what they used to kill the musty smell.

Could be a stray signal activating your "panic" button mode? Can you ask to change frequency on your key fob?

The dealer reprogrammed something (don't have the paper in front of me) regarding the key and haven't had a problem since. Hope this trend continues.

they most likely re-progammed the remotes
did you bring in all your keys on that visit?
if not other remotes may not work (different program)

Funny I never had a problem with my alarm and I had mine since may 05. I am wondering why so many people are having trouble with there Ridgelines where I haven't had any. Maybe its where you live I guess. I am here in maryland where we get all types of weather.

Tricycleone,

I have the same problem. The alarm goes off for no reason, especially around 1am & 2am. I can't even blame the wind! The dealer alarm is problematic. When I first got it they had it set to passive. When I closed the car door to go inside for a moment it would re-arm. When I sit in it or leave my family in the car I at times will lock the door from the inside by hitting the button on the armrest which arms the alarm ( yes, even if you are sitting in it). If I unlock the car but do not open the door in about a minute it re-arms.

I thought when I bought the dealer alarm it would be better in quality and easier to transact. In short, do not buy a dealer alarm. It is overpriced, difficult to "get along with", at times ineffective and downright aggravating and disappointing. Go to a reputable car alarm store and make sure it only arms with the keyless entry and the sensitivity is set right.

I wish I had the problem that you have....I can't even get my factory security system to arm itself...I was curious to and asked my salesman how come when arming the system (according to the manuel, press the lock button on the remote within 5 seconds) the horn does not sound and lights don't blink..He didn't know...I thought it was a silent option at first (I also have a Nissan Murano and silent arming is a feature) but couldn't find anything in the manual that states it does that...Any special buttons to press to make the security system arm?????

I assume it shows all the doors closed, or it won't lock. The alarm will not arm if the hood and/or trunk are not closed. Could be a bad switch...take it to the dealer and have them fix under warranty. See my detailed post on the horn honk thread where I described my problem in more detail.

Swampler....Thanks...I figured that I was going to have to do that..I just got it two days ago...It was a demo model with under 5,000 miles for a great price so I couldn't pass it up...Thank God the dealership is close by..

Hey Sledge have them print out everything they have done to your RL since it was delivered to them. Mine did (as I have a demo too) I know every thing that was added, when how much it could of cost and problems too.
