vent shade vent visors or OEM?

I really like the OEM vent shades but after a closer look of some installed at the dealer it looked to me that water could easily run in between them because the OEM ones dont seal up against the door. Love the look of them but for $150 to $200 someone has to really convince me that the ones i saw were not installed properly maybe there is a gasket thats supposed to go there? for $50 at autozone i can get the after market version that are smaller and they mount in-channel only. Although its a cleaner look I've heard of problem with this style. Like the window hitting them on the way up, the door gasket gets deformed and sometimes stretched to the point where it rips, not to mention if one bit of sand gets in there you will a horrific sound and scratch the window. I might have to wait for vent shade to come out with an outside mount stlye. Does anybody out there have the in-channel style and how do you like them? People with OEM vents please comment too. Thanks

I have the OEM ones and really like them, they are sturdier compare to after market. they do stick out a little more so might be a little wind noise,No water leaks and if they do leak, I am taking it back to dealer:)
They are pricey though:(

I had a set of vent shades installed by a local shop, $53 and change with tax. I watched the install, took about 10 minutes for all 4 windows.
The first 3 or 4 times I ran the driver's window up, it rolled back part way. After leaving it rolled up overnight, and trying it the next day, it worked normally.
After rolling the window partway down, and having about a pint of cold water run in the window and down into the armrest buttons, I decided that looks could take a backseat to function. I wondered about increased wind noise, but so far have not noticed any difference (and the wind really blows in Oklahoma) For the money I believe the vent shades will suit me fine.

Have had both, in-channel, and stick on. By far, I liked the stick-on's. Quiet, worked, and were still on the vehicle after ten years. I (having no choice) went with the In-channel on our '03 Civic. What a disaster. Wind noise and the occasional water droplet blowing in.

If anyone hears of "stick-on" visor vents being available for the Ridgeline, please post! Thanks! :)

We bought aftermarket in channel vent visors. We've never had visors on any other vehicle, so have nothing to compare them with. The price of the OEMs and they way they stick out so much more were the things that tipped me to the vent visors.

They were delivered within about two days of ordering them. They are beyond simple to install.

The driver window hesitated and rolled back down a few times on auto up. Wiping the top edge of the window corrected that. It almost never happens anymore.

We like the vent visors a lot. We have no leaks. There's a bare increase in wind noise, but I'm sure all of them do that a bit.

I bought the Lund visors from Amazon.com. They were inexpensive (compared to OEM), easy to install and look great (they are in-channel type). No wind noise and they keep the wind out of your face even when the window is half way down.

However, the auto-up feature works only now and then (usually for a few days after the window was washed). Most of time the window goes up and senses something is there and comes back down mid-way. I know this is a safety feature to keep someone's hand from being crunched but I wish there was a way to turn it off. I don't really use the auto-up much and the window works just fine if you hold your finger on the button like you have to do with the other windows.

I have always had vent shade brand on all of my other trucks. Either Gmc or Chevy. They were always stick on. Are the vent shade visors for the Ridgeline a in channel?

i bought the oems and i don't think they stick out at all...i've seen visors that look like ridiculous little awnings on vehicles and these are pretty streamlined...i had to get used to the over the window installation a little because i had always liked the in-channel look...but i bought in-channel visors on my girlfriends 2001 cr-v and 2 yrs later the drivers side window started slowing down and eventually stopped and it ended up needing a new motor...don't know if the visors had anything to do with it i but expect they did....

I installed the OEM shades over 5 months ago and love them. They were easy to install and I've had no problems. No wind noise or water leakage. They have been through heavy rain, snow, sleat, ice, and many car washes and look as good as when I installed. They may be more $$, but there won't be any disappointment.

Thanks for the reply. The ones i looked at that were installed on a truck looked like there was a gap. i also noticed that the way they mount is to pinch the window gasket. is that how yours are?

I bought the OEM visors last march, since there were no aftermarket versions available at that time. I was not happy with their cost, but was pleasantly surprised when I received them. I liked the fact that they were tinted a darker shade than the typical Ventshade visors (My truck is black so they looked great installed). Also, they were slightly thicker (stronger ?), and mounted with 3M tape combined with metal clips that go inside the window channel. The end result is they are VERY sturdy, I've been through the car wash almost once a week (again, BLACK truck......), with no problems. The OEM visors, in my opinion, look better than the Ventshade ones. They seem to have less of a "bubble" look to them. Anyway, just my $.02 ............

I bought the OEM's from H and A and installed them myself (pretty easy)
I also love the look and I haven't noticed any leakage! :)

I have had no problem at all with the window going up or down once I installed the OEM shades. Windows operated as if I they were not there, which is how it should be. I think the trick is making sure the window seal is fully back in place when finishing the install.

My dealer made an offer I could not refuse. They look better than Ventvisors but I have had many sets of Ventvisors and never any trouble.I like OEM in case I keep the Ridge cause it's a first yr model and OEM stuff will be worth big buck in 50 yrs.Don't forget to keep paperwork and brochures just for that reason.

OEM is the way to go!!! I installed mine yesterday and they are darker, thicker, sturdier that the other non-OEM equipment. It was a little tricky, I was real hesitant on taking out the window sash trim, but it's a snap to put it back in, then I just rolled up the window to be sure it was in place good again. All good as new! I bought the other ventshades ones originally, but decided against them as I don't like the ones that are in-channel; they are still in my garage in a box,(got them from a place on Ebay) lol. My advice: After dropping the window sash, put them in place first and mark where the clips go with masking tape (above on the metal door frame) and only pull off a little of the 3m adhesive on the ends. They were really easy to install, just have time and patience, mine took me an hour to install, and I love them!!! Nice !

Sorry, so it does. I just went back and clipped the link from a June 2006 posting. I don't believe it mentioned "In-Channel" back then, but I'm probably mistaken.....
