All,
Just traded the 2008 RTL in after 87K faithful miles for a 12 RTL w Navi. Other than the XM radio module issue when I first bought it the only thing I did to the truck was replace the tires at around 75K. Never even did brakes and did all the servicing myself.
Hope the new steed is as trusty as old silver. This one won't get the heavy use the other truck did. Between the wife and I my projection is about 8 K a year. We will see how it goes. Matt

Congrats on the trade. Just curious, since your 08 was reliable, why you chose to do the trade now instead of waiting to see if the new RL was going to come out this year?

I was about to ask the exact same thing. I have a 2006 that just turned 50,000 miles and like MK, I have done all the maintenance myself and it has been the most trouble free, dependable vehicle I've ever owned. I just want a new one but not a copy of what I already own. Since the "re-tooled" version may come out later this year I have decided to wait and see what it is like before I decide to buy something else.

Just get a new 2012 grill and bumper with fog lights and do the switch. Everybody will think you just bought a new 2012. Hell of a lot cheaper then a new one.

Congrads Matt, nice purchase.

So what has changed between the '08 & 12 RTL's (besides the grill & bumpers)????

All,
My wife started to drive my truck after I bought the TDI jetta to commute in. When she reluctantly gave up her jeep to my 17 year old son she became "attached" to it. I am deployed (13 of my 23 years) most of the time and I try to keep her in something new, extended warranty etc. so I dont get those stressful phone calls about the car being broken and in need of a $3000 dollar "thingy". I did that with the jeep 8/80, and am lucky I did. When I offered to get her anything she wanted she asked for another ridge, in her traditional black color and with all the bells and whistles. So chock up one victory for Matt.
The second component is that retirement looms (5-7 years) for me and I want to strengthen my stable with something while I can that will do everything that I might need it to do and be reliable. That is the first generation Ridge. it is not about what it is not or isn't any longer it is what it has proven to me that it already is, A brilliant vehicle that does everything an average person might need a vehicle to do either "great or good" that I understand and can work on myself.
We will see what the new Ridge brings to the table. This is my 25th new car and im 41 years old. Had me a few of those fancy Fords that everyone is drooling about. Both the super duty and 150 super crew were nothing but trouble. The ridge, all the gripes aside is the best all around purchase I have ever made. Matt

I just sold my 2006 EX-L privately (due to poor trade-in value) and purchased a new 2012 Ridgeline Touring - White.

I added a Retrax cover and a pinstripe.

The only differences that I can notice are:
Pros:
Mirror on Drivers sunshade
Trip computer
factory towing package
Sunroof, NAV and back-up camera (didn't have this on my EXL)

Cons:
Dual climate control does not have Driver override feature. Must always adjust both sides independently.
Carpeted floor mats.
No power passenger seat - Still.
Seems to consume more fuel. (only has 1000 km on it though, may not be broken in)

My 06 was a great ride. It had 206,000 km on it, with timing belt done once.
(Why don't they use a chain?)
Only did the standard preventative maintenance. Never touched the brakes or suspension.
Was so reliable, I bought another one.

cheers

Still nutty change and main reason why I drive an '06. That and the fact the Canadian-built RL is a tank.:act064:

Me too, I agree! My 2006 just turned seven years old the other day and it has never seen the inside of a repair shop. I only have 52,000 miles on it and I think it might have been made in Canada, not sure, but it drives better than the day I took it home! I think it will outlast a tank!!

I hear ya' about the brakes. I replaced my tires at 68000 and of course they measured pad thickness to see if they could say "would you like brakes with that"? When they gave the numbers to the service writer he said "you must have just had your brakes done" Well no.
BTW even at 68K the tires still had life in them, but it was the fall and I wanted to go into the winter with fresh tread.
I don't know if it is the tires or the truck, but I have never had tires last like that.

Hello ROC members! I'm new here. I too just got a 2012 rtx in white. I traded my wife's 07 Rav4, 4cyl. in on my Ridgeline. We noticed the Toyota 4 cyl. oil burning issue @ 80k, long after the 60k warranty ran out. I didn't want to deal with the issue at all, so I traded it off. I love my new ride. Since the Toyota disappointed me, I fell for an extended warranty on the new Honda. 8 years/100k=extra $2100. With my luck, I won't need it. We'll see. I put rear splash guards on and got the front 3m clear bra treatment. Body side protectors are next. Looking forward to a good Honda experience!

congrats.
I was deployed to Vietnam back in 65, landed there on my 21st. Birthday, was wondering why the plane dove straight down, was informed later, that was to avoid being shot down. The long gliding approach made us too big of a target.
Preshade your service.
