Hope you find what you are looking for; in fact, I have been considering the same thing for my white RT. Been wondering if a 5 tire rotation makes any sense.... ? Tell us more about your Ridge and yourself... ridged 01-09-2006, 11:06 PM Been wondering if a 5 tire rotation makes any sense.... ? You'll need to consider the ramifications of this in regards to the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Here's (http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3543&postcount=14) what one ROC member has to say about it. MontanaFred 01-09-2006, 11:06 PM I'm looking fo a full size spare for my RT also. I want to mount it outside the trunk when I fill the bed of my truck up with rocks. I think this might be a business opportunity for someone. farmguy 01-10-2006, 12:09 AM You'll need to consider the ramifications of this in regards to the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Thanks... yeah, I remember reading that post a few thousand miles ago when I was most interested in this, had kinda forgotten about that whole issue. I seem to remember someone posting that they were successfully using a spare with TMPS mounted without any problems. Seems like there must be some way to defeat the 5th signal. Do you (or anyone) think there is an advantage to rotating 5 tires? ridged 01-10-2006, 07:48 AM Do you (or anyone) think there is an advantage to rotating 5 tires? I think it's a good idea since it will mean that (a) the spare, often neglected for years, will be checked on a regular basis and (b) all tires in the rotation will maintain approximately the same tread depth, negating handling issues which can reportedly arise from major variations in tread depth. <shrug> hofffam 01-11-2006, 09:09 AM Several sets of RL wheels with tires on sale in ebay. Most have been 4 wheel sets but maybe some of these people will sell just one. I imagine these are people who bought 20s or 22s. nevadagarth 01-11-2006, 09:55 AM I just bought a full size spare yesterday from the local tire shop that does the showroom vehicles for my Honda dealership. I had to buy the tire, but he threw in the wheel for $20. All told, I was out the door for $180. I was satisfied since I was expecting to have to pay $200 or more. The owner said he did not have any extra TPMS so I didn't really have a choice. I am not sure how the sensors would work with the fifth tire, but since this is just a spare and I wanted it to have as a back up for off roading, I am not too concerned about not having the extra TPMS. I will check the pressure each time I plan to go off roading. Also, I could carry one of those "Fill up your tire with a can" as a back up, since the spare doesn't have a TPMS to mess up. On a related note, has any one else purchased a full size spare and been able to come up with a method to mount the tools in a location that isn't on the ledge on the right hand side of the trunk? farmguy 01-11-2006, 10:26 AM Several sets of RL wheels with tires on sale in ebay. Most have been 4 wheel sets but maybe some of these people will sell just one. I imagine these are people who bought 20s or 22s. The only wheel sets I have seen on eBay are the alloys that come on the RTS and RTL. The RT has painted steel spoked wheels, not alloys. hofffam 01-13-2006, 03:04 PM OK (painted steel). But if you could buy alloy for a decent price, what's wrong with that? Unless it participates in a 5 tire rotation it doesn't matter. Buying one of these wheels would also include a TPMS sensor. farmguy 01-13-2006, 03:21 PM OK (painted steel). But if you could buy alloy for a decent price, what's wrong with that? I would be looking for the 5 wheel rotation, and I took ktrussell4's original post as looking specifically for steel, as he noted that he had already seen several alloys for sale. That's the only reason I clarified. But otherwise, I agree with you... if it's in the trunk, it doesn't matter what it looks like. But then there also is no need for the TPMS, right? farmguy 01-13-2006, 03:40 PM Do you (or anyone) think there is an advantage to rotating 5 tires? If you damage a tire like my daughter did a few months ago, you already have a replacement in your trunk that has the same degree of wear. She bought a full set of four new tires as recommended by most for AWD vehicles, to make sure all were the same diameter. Thanks, Ridged... maybe that's what you meant anyway, in your (b)...:) ridged 01-14-2006, 04:44 AM Thanks, Ridged... maybe that's what you meant anyway, in your (b)...:) Yup, that's exactly what I meant. :) farmguy 01-15-2006, 06:44 AM Yup, that's exactly what I meant. :) Yeah, I'm a little slow sometimes.:o | |
